Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

Doric don't worry about it, the rest just ignore me Grin. It just helps me to get it done if its all listed.

I have deviated

from my list

and cleaned out the drain in garden which was blocked

Cobweb how lovely that he makes models though, I dream of dh making giant model train scapes /dinosaur valleys with kids, eiffel towers (or are they machine models?)

hope day improves, PUT SOME MUSIC ON
(that is if you haven't got a headache Blush

Doric hope this morning is good

heading upstairs now, dd is sorting out the cutlery drawer for me

swanriver · 07/02/2011 10:33

Doric
I make long lists and then ignore them

swanriver · 07/02/2011 10:45

Cobweb I'm sorry - I'm sure models are something different from what I imagine.

For anyone who is having problems finding the links now the thread is moving so quickly, it might be worth saving the following links into your favourites so you can check yourself anytime without having to sign up to the emails

Sneak peek - summary of the current week's missions

Mission this link updates automatically every week day

Babysteps go to this page and click on the link corresponding to the current day of the month

Ihatecobwebs · 07/02/2011 11:26

Swan - think Airfix kits done to extreme obsessional level. We have visited museums - counted rivets and photographed plating joins etc to get exact accuracy Shock, and he has the nerve to tell me he is NOT a "rivet counter" [hmmm]. Giant is right though - the top of one of my kitchen cupboards is currently home to a four foot rail gun and a three foot submarine Confused.

And yes, the music is on - I need something to motivate me this morning.

Ihatecobwebs · 07/02/2011 11:34

And Swan - the kitchen is currently home to a mini photography studio, complete with camera, tripod (currently down, thankfully), backdrop and lights.

Its a madhouse here!!!

Ihatecobwebs · 07/02/2011 11:40

Have just found DH's phone in the rubble on the kitchen table - I formally designate today a BAD DAY!

blijemuts · 07/02/2011 11:50

Heeelloooo Ladies,I've been having fun this morning watching the impatience of human kind!!
We are having a major over haul of our road, starting today and as a result the road is closed for three weeks. There have been signs out for weeks to warn people and some decent diversions set out.
The amount of people that still try to get through anyway is unbelievable. There is an area in front of our house which is great to use if you want to try and get past the obstacles if only I wouldn't have been so mean to park my car on it Grin Grin.
So I have installed myself with my ironing board and a pile of business ironing in my breakfast room to watch numerous shouting matches between car drivers and road workers. I have learned quite a few new English words this morning that I don't seem to be able to find in my dictionary Confused.
If the sign says the road is CLOSED,does that mean the road is actually CLOSED,like even for ME???? Angry Shock Angry
Makes for great entertainment on an otherwise dull Monday morning Grin
Right here goes

Dressed incl. shoes done
Lay out breakfast table for guests done
Prepare/serve/clear away breakfast, clean breakfast room done
Make lunchboxes for small people done
Peel small people out of very comfy baskets and get them ready for school done
Take DS to school and watch the poor fellow apologising to his teacher for using the word 'condom' in the playground which nearly cost him his school captaincy Shock done
Buy animal food and feed animals done
Clean kitchen and shine sink done
1 stayer,1 leaver today so do rooms for about 90 mins.
Do business ironing whilst watching WWIII unfold for about 1 hr. as we speak
15 mins de-cluttering kitchen draws
Have lunch with DH (he works just up the road so comes home for lunch)
Afternoon routine with DC
Make T/eat T
Check in today's guests,last one expected 6pm-ish
general tidy up
put small people back in exceedingly comfy baskets
relax on sofa with Cuppa T and slab of chocolate Grin

  • Organise washing and posters/fliers for above

thornykate - do not fret. I don't have dishwasher or room in cupboard under sink to stash dishes. I try and do washing up completely (ie washed, dried and put away) after each meal though don't always manage it. That's my way of achieving the first babystep.

Ihate I think they sound great - can't have men being bored can we?Grin Now if I can just summon up same level of tolerance for dh's piles of breadwinning Antiquarian books Blush

Successes
kitchen tidied
lots of laundry done
ds1 room thoroughly cleaned and decluttered
all beds changed and nearly remade

disastrousfailures
dd reduced me to tears (she wanted to go to BuildaBear, and I said no, after her behaviour yesterday, Sat and Friday 3 lots of treats, all ending her in a worse mood than ever Sad
however we have hugged and made up
and I'm now going to embark on the ironing plan.

She really does not like to potter, that is the problem, with or without me, nor does she seem to want to do anything, read, draw, paint, chat. Only what she has set her heart on. Friend is coming round later, that should make her feel a bit better.

Blije I like your human drama!

swanriver · 07/02/2011 14:19

Stillchuckingit · 07/02/2011 14:36

Hi everyone. Hope you are all OK.

Checking in very late today. Gloriously sunny here with, dare I say it, a hint of spring in the air...

Thank you for truly fantabulous round-up last night Ellie. Wishing you courage for today and Wine for tonight!

Hope your bil is improving Pushme and good luck with the drive.

And Ogre thanks for posting 'permanent' zone, steps, and mission links - good idea.

PA I have Nyquist vacuum cleaner - excellent but very heavy and not easy to manoeuvre and (v. tall house!) an AEG Vampyr which is old now but still pretty good. I swear by my AEG dishwasher and washing machine btw. They are both brill.

Oh dear, forgot to say

Pinkcushion glad it worked - well done!!!

Linzer hope you feel better as day goes on

Ohmeohmy see Ogre's post of Monday 7 10:56. That will keep you straight.

Normally though , steps are posted by thread leader Pushme and they will be highlighted in green so easy to spot (if you have switched to Mumsnet latest settings). We've diverted from this a bit recently though because Pushme is travelling for work and finding it difficult to post from her phone just at the mo. Any more q's - pls ask again!!

MissJulie congrats on cooking bonanza - enough for 28 days - crikey!!!

Really must dash now - waves to all

elliepac · 07/02/2011 14:58

Stop posting now.....think of us people who have to round-up GrinGrin.

Toffeefudgecake · 07/02/2011 14:59

Thanks everyone for wishing me well with DS today. We have had a lovely day so far. He is a very happy boy and is being great company (just shows what a difference being relaxed makes). He even learnt to Fly! I gave him a list of jobs to do (tidy and hoover his room, empty his bin, hang his clothes up and clean the sitting-room mirror) and he did them all enthusiastically. I will make a Flyboy of him yet!

I saw the head this morning and she has come up with a clever plan to allow DS to stay off school, but also entitle him to join in for anything he wants, such as end-of-term parties and transition days to secondary school. So DS can enjoy his 'home education' taster, but we are not cutting ties with the school. I feel so relieved.

Oops - just noticed that it's time for the school run. Back later with a list.

pinkcushion · 07/02/2011 15:02
