Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

My DH does LOADS - not trying to make you Envy but I know I am so lucky. But then I am quite scary!!! LOL. He does loads of ironing (not allowed to watch football unless ironing board is up Grin) and tonnes with DC as well as lots of the routines - he knows them all, too! he automatically sweeps up after tea, clears the kitchen etc. Always makes the bed if I haven't got to it first. Only thing he never does is the bathroom. I know I am blessed!

Busy, but lovely day today. Went with my friend to play gym, her DD's 2nd birthday. I am doing all the baking for the party (100 guests!) on Sunday ... have done 4 lemon drizzles so far, also doing iced number 2 biscuits and brownies, I think).

Popped to see my Dad, he is having a minor op today and just wanted to give him a hug before he went! DH is at the hospital picking him up as Mum didn't want to drive in the wild wild wind!

tomorrow, dance for DD, toy shop with DC to spend pocket money, party with DD later, baking for party. Will try for family fun somewhere!

I am liking the busyness of this thread, and hope to start getting to know everyone soon and posting personals! We have all had a fantastic week decluttering our houses and being FAB MUMs - well done all

doricpatter · 04/02/2011 21:22

I'm sorry ladies, I've not been overly active on here today - keeping the little blighters entertained and achieving something isn't easy, let alone stay up to date with the thread.

My list is a bit sad - but maybe I'm trying to do too much Confused

Tidy living room done, not that you would know

Priorities, dahlings!

Off to try and catch up with all these posts now. Hope you are all well and shiny :)

doricpatter · 04/02/2011 21:23

Oh and thanks for asking - no accidents that I know of (not that he'd come clean anyway, unless the charred evidence was inconcealable!)

NettieISroundlikefiggypudding · 05/02/2011 02:57

Evening everyone

Too late for personals Blush having insomniac night. Think I'm too excited about holiday.

Can't remember what was on list and on My phone scrolling is a no no.

So today I have managed
Work
Dc nurseries picked up
Lovely coffee with friend
Dw
Wm
Updated iPod and iPhone, downloaded ds 4 favourite song. Cheryl Coles fight fight for your love which he will argue with me till blue in face that words are "fight fight fight fight fight for the slug" Shock
smoke alarms tested
Sink cleaned and tops wiped.

That's all folks! And must be super productive tomorrow or today so gonna post list now for memory's sake and maybe to free mind for sleep Hmm

Lie in (dh turn for breakfast)
Dispatch dh and ds to barbers
Sort out cases and start packing
Play with Dd
Sweep floors
Moving mountainous washing pile along, make ironing pile of holiday stuff for dh.
Take dc out for short walk, maybe make cake. I'm very good at galavanting not so good at staying at home so thought hometime needed before holiday.
Sort out dinner something with chicken!

I get verbal diahhorrea this late at night so better say night
Night,

Have lovely Saturday's Grin

doricpatter · 05/02/2011 08:32

Good going missjulie - if you get bored I'm sure the rest of us would have you round for the day Wink

Yes swan, the "old ones" Grin - you know, "indestructibllllllllllllllllllle ..!" I love a bit of 80s stuff to lift the spirits. We found Yazz on YouTube too but DS was less impressed by this!

Right. Been up since 5 and was woken 4 times before that by my darling children. When I say I've been up, I mean awake, not actually up and productive. However, I am halfway through my cuppa and thinking about a plan for the day.

Dishes, surfaces and sink
Breadmaker on again
FINALLY fold the bloody laundry!
Tumble dry last wet load
Tidy and hoover downstairs
Mop floor in kitchen
Bin out
Try not to throttle DS, who's just as knackered as I am but won't sleep even if he does get a chance, the little brute
Hope and pray DD is better company than she has been
Oh and express some milk at some point

Likelihood of success? Slim. But hey, let's aim high!

leothelioness · 05/02/2011 08:58

Thanks for reminding me about chinese new year OFM
Happy chinese new year, year of the rabbit :) everyone.

Have been up since 6 DS2 was sick just before bed last nigh and brought up all his dinner so woke up starving at 6 but atleast he has been fine and its not a virus or something.

Anyway today I am planning
Breakfast done
need to get showered and dressed
Supermarket for a proper shop
Take DS1 for his swimming lesson
sone entertaining activity with DS2
sort out the house for the dinner guests tomorrow
lunch
dinner
shiny sink
mop kitchen floor
vaccum upstairs

Have ordered some e-cloths too hopefully they are good as I hate using too many chemical sprays.

Colourarc · 05/02/2011 09:17

Morning all, very impressed by all that is going on atm!

DH is helpful and quite likes Flying, so not too difficult to get him on board!

I know I'm new and everything, but I have a suggestion (as everyone is saying how busy the thread is), could MNHQ add a dedicated Flying forum in the Good Housekeeping section? Sorry if I'm over stepping boundries here, we could have a chat thread, daily threads etc.

Work is going well, slow, long hours atm but looking good & I'm enjoying it ~ pretty much being left to get on with things, which is nice.

Flying is on a back burner atm Blush, but I hope to get a couple of 15 min Declutters in tomorrow!

Happy Flying all, hope to join for Wine tonight (late), can I request a chilled Rose?

off to get ready for work now.

elliepac · 05/02/2011 09:38

Morning all,

Am not even going to attempt to catch up even though I have only been away for one day!

DH has taken DD to the market, DS is ensconced on the xbox and I am attempting to do a Home Bless (I know it's not Monday but I work all week so can't do it any other time!). Have done downstairs and am about to go upstairs. So far I have:-

Tidied living room
tidied dining room]
tidied kitchen and hallway
washed up
cleaned all 3 rooms

To do:-

Clean and tidy bedrooms
Clean bathroom
Go to town
Washing ad infinitum
Go to post office to pick up ebay stuff

DS has some pocket money to spend and has announced he would like to do crafty stuff this afternoon so am going to get some craftsy stuff this morning and then spend the afternoon making things as it is miserable here today.

Have a good day everyone!

optimisticmumma · 05/02/2011 09:53

Morning all...

Just a quick post before I go to watch DS1 in his last ever rugby match for his school Sad. This year is going to be a year of 'lasts'...oh well... it's also going to be a year of 'firsts' I suppose! Grin

Today:
play with new food processor thingey - I replaced it at last...
Look at DDs cake orders and see if any need to be done today - she's had about 20 orders already - bless my lovely family/friends.
laundry
family fun??? we catch it where we can with 3 teenagers!! Bizarrely 'Human Planet' is getting us all together at the moment!!
May go and see King's Speech - I know I've got old children when I don't even know what 'Tangled' is!!!

Have a lovely day all.....

elliepac · 05/02/2011 10:24

om Human Planet is currently about the only thing that DH and I watch together. It's fascinating stuff!

Enjoy his rugby match!

Toffeefudgecake · 05/02/2011 11:35

Lovely to see all the chatting going on here, but I really can't keep up!

Colourarc - that's a good idea about the dedicated section in Good Housekeeping.

OM - hope rugby match goes well - and that you have wrapped up very, very warm (can't say that would be my idea of fun. I'm so glad DS1 hates rugby!).

MissJulie - congratulations on your new organised Flying self! I know what you mean about the body snatchers, but I must say I love my new (fairly) organised self. Keep at it and you will definitely see results.

Nettie - hope you have a wonderful holiday. We will miss you.

Can't do anymore messages or I will be here all day!

Took DS1 to the doctor about his stress yesterday afternoon. The doctor was really supportive about the home-education idea and agreed that it might give DS time to 'heal'. He is a lovely compassionate man and I always feel better after seeing him.

Did fairly well at my routines for most of yesterday, but was thrown out by late dr's appointment, which meant I fed children late and they went to bed late. By then I'd started on the Wine with DH and then fell asleep with DS2 Blush. Woke at midnight, moved into our bed and then slept through till 8am! So have had loads of sleep, but came down to a very untidy kitchen with all the washing up still to do. Sometimes you have to choose between sleep and Flylady.

DS2 is having a friend over to play in an hour, so had better get ready now. I still have some of my Tesco delivery waiting to be unpacked from yesterday and I am still not dressed, let alone to shoes (note to MissJulie - sometimes my formerly slovenly self returns Wink).

Waves to all of you.

Stillchuckingit · 05/02/2011 11:45

Morning everyone

Checking in at this rather leisurely hour and feel rather guilty now I've read that Doric and Leo (glad your ds feeling better now) have both been up since crack of sparrows ...but dd slept in until 8.45 today ... which is only the second time in 7 years that she has not woken before 7am!! Yippeee!!

Should be full of energy and sorting out master bedroom but I feel absolutely wretched Grin!! Sleep obviously doesn't agree with me! Grin (Although sense of exhaustion could have something to do with the large mushroom and bacon omelette that dh and dd have just cooked and I've snaffled.)

Blijemuts - message from dd - (left as she typed it)

hallo, dank u voor je email. ik doe rekenen, taal, schrijven, lezen, zingen en Gym in nederlans in mijn school en ik hou van het. tot de volgende keer x

(and now she has gone downstairs, promise not to make a habit of this or you will be here all day every day!!)

OM repect (again!) - if you can run 7 miles of an evening on top of looking after 6 dc and working 4/5 then I can at least go for a walk around the block tonight (thanks for inspiration!!)

Attention everyone!!! Possible that MissJulie has succumbed to Fat Fairy over-indoctrination-babystep-syndrome - we may have to call in the deprogramming squad!! [CBH and Ellie don white jumpsuits and head out to high mobility multi-purpose vehicle ...] Grin

[I think we may be too late to save Nettie] Grin lol at "fight the slug"

Colourarc I think it says on Fat Fairy website that its only for private use and not to be published for public consumption - something like that anyway - so to have an official FF forum in GH section might get Mumsnet into legal difficulties. NOt sure though. What does everyone else think? Would you prefer to have one thread for chat and one solely for steps and lists (or just steps)??

Good luck with your home blessing Ellie

and "sniff" [blow loudly in to handkerchief] at Optimistic's last moment at the rugby field ...

Have a good day everyone!

Right my list for today:
