Welcome to the February Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thankyou to ToffeeChristmasCake (who will presumably return under her non-Christmas name Grin) for seeing us through the thick and thin of January decluttering.

All flyers and fledgings old and new are very welcome - we have a fairly relaxed attitude to flying and take some of the babysteps - such as getting dressed to lace-up shoes - with a pinch of salt. We also strongly advise against signing up for the FlyLady emails.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, using one of the following methods:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

If you are overwhelmed by the mess in your home, start with just one thing: shine your sink. It's amazing what you can achieve by just doing a bit at a time!

Pleased be warned that my month's leadership comes with a bit of a caveat as I am due to have DC2 at the beginning of March so there is a chance I may disappear mid month! Thankfully Toffee has very kindly offered to deputise in the event of the unexpected appearance of DS Grin.

Apologies to Toffee (and by extension Ellie) for blatant intro plagarising and thankyou to Nettie for the thread title Smile

See you all in February!

Ooh, I'm in!

LemonDifficult · 29/01/2011 23:03

Hello, can I join?

DH and I have been doing the Fly 15 minutes thing for the last two weeks and it's been ace.

ToffeeChristmascake · 30/01/2011 00:14

I'm in too! Thank you, Pullme, hi Ogre and welcome to Lemon.

MrsShrekTheThird · 30/01/2011 00:18

am tentatively thinking I should try this properly this time Wink

doricpatter · 30/01/2011 00:27

Oh I'd like to have a go. I'm on ML so around enough to spend 15 minutes doing things. Feck knows my house needs all the help it can get!

LinzerTorte · 30/01/2011 06:23

Just marking my spot. Thanks for offering to lead the new thread pmpy and thank you for doing such a sterling job last month Toffee. Smile

PositiveAttitude · 30/01/2011 07:17

Marking my spot for another attempt at getting the house under control. Smile

arabella36 · 30/01/2011 07:34

Hello pushme and thank you for the new thread. I would like to take part too. You are indeed brave and highly motivated taking on the mantle with a new baby on the way!

I've been doing only low-level flying this last week or two as am back to work after maternity leave as well as just falling pregnant at the same time with the resulting tiredness[there should be a tired face to insert]! However after an early night I've been up since 630 and decided to catch up with laundry.

Thanks also to Toffee and you others who I found to be great motivators in my first month of FLYingSmile

fishandlilacs · 30/01/2011 08:37

i'm in.

Have done my little cabinet under my desk today-the amount of crapola paperwork/junk mail that i simply just threw away was incredible. why did i keep it at all?

elliepac · 30/01/2011 09:20

Morning oh beautiful fledglings. Having been supremely crapola during January, I start this month with another a vow to do it properly. Apologies for being AWOL in January and a massive thank you toffee for being a superlative leader Smile. pmpy I do believe you may be nuts Grin but thank you for taking on board the mahoosive task of attempting to keep wayward fledglings like myself on task!

Am going to catch up on the other thread now to see what I have missed!

doricpatter · 30/01/2011 09:33

For us newbies can someone please whizz through exactly what the babysteps consist of? I looked into FLYlady years ago but didn't stick it (I signed up for the mails, duh!). I need everything spelled out just now, I'm soooo tired (hopefully this thread will prevent the tiredness translating into messiness as it usually does!) :)

Cribbage · 30/01/2011 09:45

Please may I join too? Smile
Last year was a crap year for me and largely due to the arrival of DC2 my house has become supremely cluttered. I need to sort it out before it drives me loopy but I just don't know where to start. I have shined my sink though! Now what?!

NickNacks · 30/01/2011 10:52

Please can I join too?
As above, my home has got monumentily dreadful since the arrival of DC3 and although it's always been cluttered- it's now always behind with day to day housework now.

I HAVE to get it ship shape and de-cluttered my Easter when I return to work!

pushmepullyou · 30/01/2011 11:17

Hello oldies and newbies alike Smile

arabella, didn't realise you were pregnant - congratulations! Definitely take it easy for a bit whilst you get settled in to both work and pregnancy.

ellie most of us dip in and out a bit as real life requires, I think I may be nuts too, but having been here since almost the beginning and failed to volunteer myself for thread leadership I've been feeling a bit guilty! I am not nuts to offer with a newborn so this seemed like the best option!

Welcome Lemon, MrsShrek, doric, fish and Cribbage, The baby steps are a set of simple (and quick) instructions, one each day of the month to help you gradually get on top of your housework. I will post a link to the relevant baby step each day. We don't all follow all of the baby steps as some of them are a bit odd Hmm, but the more useful ones build up over the month to help you to develop some easy to follow routines.

Once you have mastered the baby steps you can start adding a 15 minute declutter each day followed by cleaning 'missions' from the FlyLady website. Again I will be posting daily links, which should give you all the information you need, but don't hesitate to give us a shout if anything isn't clear.

doricpatter · 30/01/2011 11:21

That makes sense. Thank you :)

Just to be clear, I don't have to do anything today, right? Grin

Scout19075 · 30/01/2011 11:31

I really must start again! I've been doing the fling every day (well, most days) but really want to get serious again.

MommyMayhem · 30/01/2011 11:35

Hey, can I join too? I have been doing Flylady for the past couple of weeks and it's been great! Even my DH has noticed that the house "feels cleaner" (his words).

Can I say though, that I can really see the sense in getting dressed to lace up shoes. I never wear shoes in the house normally, but have been wearing my new trainers (just in the house) since starting Flylady. And I must say, I get a damn sight more done wearing lace up shoes than I ever did shuffling around in my slippers.

LairOfTheDetermined · 30/01/2011 12:20

just marking my place with a tentative post.

I need to start flying again and i need to start functioning again. perhaps february is the time to start.

feetheart · 30/01/2011 12:59

Just marking my place.

To those of you who have tried Flying before and lapsed, it took me 4 goes I think before I got going for more than a couple of months. Have been on here for just over a year and although the house is miles from being half decent perfect I do feel more in control and know the routines work if I stick to them :)

See you on Tuesday.

swanriver · 30/01/2011 15:27

I'm here, as you all cheer me up a lot, when housekeeping gets me down...
and the food is delicious here too Hmm
more pushups required Smile to get us in shape

LemonDifficult · 30/01/2011 17:54

I'm looking forward to it. Anything would be an improvement on what I've got now.

(Pile of plates in the microwave, anyone?)

runforthehill · 30/01/2011 18:36

Hello, can I join please?
