How often do you dust?

just noticed dust on the telly cabinet. Dusting is probably the job I do least. When I do do it, it makes me sneeze and it is such a pointless chore.

Much less than I'd like!
I sometimes get the older kids to do a bit, but in reality some of the house might get done once a month, more obscure locations maybe once a year. (Slattern emoticon)

CrosswordAddict · 18/01/2011 13:27

How dangerous is dust? I mean if your family don't have asthma/ allergies will dust harm them? Kids don't see dirt as far as I can tell so what does it matter? I dust every week except at Xmas when there is so much clutter on every surface I can't be bothered. The sun today is really showing up the dust everywhere.

IAmReallyFabNow · 18/01/2011 13:29

I have asthma, the kids don't.

It looks awful but then no one every comes round so I will carry on chilling Grin.

IAmFab - it is much better if you use a slightly damp microfibre cloth, the dust sticks to it rather than just getting wafted around the house.

I do it whenever it annoys me - where I lived before once a week was fine, for some reason this much newer place, not road facing etc is much dustier so I do it a couple of times a week. However, it only takes a couple of minutes as I don't have clutter ornaments and shit Grin

empirestateofmind · 18/01/2011 13:33

Thorough dust each holiday and half term. In between I just do the coffee tables and front of the tv. They are the only bits anyone ever notices. I do the kitchen and bathroom every day but I don't worry about dust.

Must own up to having help at the moment though as living in Asia. First help I've had in 20 years of working full time so am enjoying the luxury.

FlyingSquirrel · 18/01/2011 13:35

How often do I wha'....?

What is this 'dust' please?

Confused
LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 18/01/2011 13:39

Every day. We have a huge stove which spews out coal/wood dust everywhere all day.

I just push a 'fluffy' duster at every surface.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 18/01/2011 13:41

What's dust?

CrosswordAddict · 18/01/2011 14:12

Smartarse you took the words right out of my mouth. Can't believe I'm even discussing this topic.

ChickensFlyingUnderTheRadar · 18/01/2011 14:16

Once a week. I do everything once a week. Except sweeping/hoovering.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 18/01/2011 14:17

What I meant was that OF COURSE there is no dust in my house. Heaven forbid!

Wink
AMumInScotland · 18/01/2011 16:03

When someone nudges against the front of the TV and disturbs the nice even layer.

ChasingSquirrels · 18/01/2011 16:05

cleaner does it once a week (wipe over with wet cloth to pick up the dust, rather than dry cloth to move it around).
before I had a cleaner, umm - not very often.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 18/01/2011 16:21

Actually, never!

When I'm vacuuming, I stick the brush attachment on and do everything with that. Gets rid of the dust instead of moving it around (my family have an interesting collection of allergies)

MadreInglese · 18/01/2011 16:22

when somebody writes in it Wink

thefirstMrsDeVere · 18/01/2011 16:37

Twice a day. The whole lot.

Dont hate me, I have my reasons Grin

My mum loves it when I come to hers, her lampshades and picture rails get a good going over.

Starbear · 18/01/2011 16:49

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2011 16:54

Twice a week normally.

Dust in your radiators with one of those Flash/Pledge fluffy things. The results are vile but it stops the house getting so dusty, has made a massive difference here.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 18/01/2011 16:58

I can feel myself wanting to write all my dusting tips and schedules on this thread.

Do not allow me to do this. Even if I beg.

MissQue · 18/01/2011 17:00

Do what?

HedgeSparrow · 18/01/2011 17:02

I am reasonably interested in your dusting schedules MrsDeVere! Well, as interested in dusting as it is possible to be Grin. I normally wave a Pledge cloth at things and hope the dust sticks to it.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2011 17:05

HedgeSparrow - sadly so am I!

We are asthmatics in this house, so dust is Public Enemy No.1! Grin

HettyAmaretti · 18/01/2011 17:10

Aw, go on thefirstMrsDeVere, you know you want to...

Starbear - you can stop! Babysteps, babysteps

IWillCountToThree · 18/01/2011 17:12
