Where do you keep your ironing board and ironing basket?

IAmReallyFabNow · 20/12/2010 10:30

I keep it in my bedroom and usually do the ironing when the kids are at school. I am fed up of it in there and want our bedroom to be clutter free instead if a dumping ground for stuff but can't think where else they can go.
Any ideas would be great, thank you. I will check back later as I am doing the ironing now.

Ironing board and baskets hang in utility room when not in use. Normally I iron in the living room when dd is at school and make sure I finish before she comes back. It that is not possible, I fold the remainder put them in the wardrobes and iron it the next day ...

Wordsonascreen · 20/12/2010 11:54

I have a laundry room.

Wordsonascreen · 20/12/2010 11:54

In hindsight that wasn't really helpfull Grin

IAmReallyFabNow · 20/12/2010 11:57

The utility room would be perfect but I have a cat who would sleep on the clothes even though she has a very cosy bedHmmGrin.

My cats sleep in the util too. I have a cupboard where the ironing pile sits because they would sleep on it otherwise. The board lives behind the door in the util. The cupboard is only big enough to take max 2 loads of washing so it makes me keep up with it. Grin

I find it handiest to keep the ironing board upstairs so I can put things away easily. I prop it in the airing cupboard. Don't have an ironing basket - just sling it all over the landing banister or shove it on airing cupboard shelf. Perhaps I should get one.

AMumInScotland · 20/12/2010 12:03

Our stuff that is waiting to be ironed just hangs over the top of the banisters until I get to it - apart from getting bundled up and thrown on a bed if people are coming round!

The ironing board lives in a tall cupboard next to the kitchen, just because its out of sight.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 20/12/2010 12:03

Ironing board is in the kitchen, between the fridge and freezer (just enough space there), iron on the side, where it can be plugged into the UK splitter board whenever DH needs it for his shirts.

Ironing basket? wassat then?

IAmReallyFabNow · 20/12/2010 12:49

My ironing basket is just a normal laundry basket where spare coat hangers and the clothes to be ironed live.

In the shed. So I dont have to do any! Grin

Nah, it is very messily in the lounge room

Cyb · 20/12/2010 12:58

In my utility room, hung on wall behind door

Sometimes I lug it up 2 flights of stairs to watch iplayer on my PC while I iron

SleepingLion · 20/12/2010 13:34

Ironing board neatly propped in understairs cupboard. Ironing basket tucks behind living room door when full, on top of tumble drier when empty.

domesticsluttery · 20/12/2010 13:37

Ironing basket sits on top of the tumble dryer in the utility room. Ironing board hangs up on the wall next to it.

domeafavour · 20/12/2010 13:38

in the downstairs toilet

domeafavour · 20/12/2010 13:38

oh for a utility room!!

ethelina · 20/12/2010 14:47

I have a tv on the wall in the kitchen so I don't need to lug the ironing anywhere!

hifi · 20/12/2010 15:39

i have a hanging thing on the back of a door that closes onto my boiler so you dont see it.the ironing baskets live in cupboards in a utility/loo room.

dikkertjedap · 20/12/2010 15:46

Maybe you can put a piece of hardboard or something like that on top of your basket so your cat won't go in your basket. Or would there be anyway to hang your basket or put up a shelf to put your basket on?

Seona1973 · 21/12/2010 13:48

the iron lives in the cupboard under the stairs - dont hav an ironing basket as clothes get put away and then I only need to take out what needs ironing on the day its getting done (normally a Sunday). Most of the ironing I do is shirts, polo shirts and skirts for dd so the majority is on hangers already so no need for a basket.

Hulababy · 21/12/2010 13:52

Utility room.

brimfull · 21/12/2010 13:53

In spare room ,looks like chinese laundry in there, thank fuck no one is coming to stay this xmas.

ClaireDeLoon · 21/12/2010 13:56

Ironing board in cupboard under stairs.

Don't have an ironing basket.

Orissiah · 21/12/2010 16:21

We don't have a utility room or airing cupboard so the ironing board and air dryers are tucked away out of sight in the gap between the wardrobe and the wall in the spare bedroom. We (yes my lovely DH irons his own clothes!) iron in the spare room and I make sure it's folded away after every use as I hate clutter. The washing basket is stored away in the cupboard under the stairs.

TheNextMrsClaus · 21/12/2010 16:23

The ironing board was last seen wedged into the tall cupboard on the landing, with the iron in there somewhere too.

It was last used about 9 months ago, but that was only on DD1's Hama Bead creations.

I think you can probably guess, I don't possess an ironing basket. Xmas Grin

TheNextMrsClaus · 21/12/2010 16:24

I do have a futility room, though! With lots of drying racks.
