...and the water is now continually leaking down into one of the veg compartments unless I soak it up every day with a tea towel.

Does anyone know how to unblock these holes?

Get a skewer and poke it in there, should remove any gunk.

whomovedmychocolate · 02/11/2010 21:42

Chop stick is traditional - or a pipe cleaner. Do you have small children with a craft box you could raid?

blueberryboybait · 02/11/2010 21:42

I used an old syringe, stuck it down the hole slightly and sucked out the goo - it was thick, slimey and gross!

KatyMac · 02/11/2010 21:42

pipe cleaner?

hillyhilly · 02/11/2010 21:42

Mine came with a tool to unblock it with, basically a plastic thing that looked a bit like a large needle threader.
Try poking it with a kebab stick or even a cotton bud

overmydeadbody · 02/11/2010 21:42

You should have a little mimi plunger for these sorts of emergencies.

I use a fat pipecleaner

marriednotdead · 02/11/2010 22:51

Have the proper thing that came with it but a cable tie is just as good.

Or even a couple of those ties (that come with freezer bags) twisted together.

Improvisation is clearly rife on here Grin

Honeydragon · 02/11/2010 22:53

I use a bent skewer

Irishchic · 02/11/2010 22:54

Thanks for all those suggestions, I will try them out!

Bendy straw and blow into it. (Just in case you were tempted to suck ! bleuch. Grin)

Irishchic · 02/11/2010 23:24

Trumpton - would that not just push the gunk further in to the hole??

OP posts:
SGertie · 02/11/2010 23:26

Another vote here for the bendy straw. However I don't blow or suck (ooer missus), I just wriggle it about a bit.

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave · 02/11/2010 23:29

Cotton bud, IME.

trumpton · 03/11/2010 08:21

Nah it blows it straight through into the evaporation tray.

QuintessentialShadows · 03/11/2010 08:24

one two three, STRAW and

..

... SUCK!

sorry.

Dont poke and push what ever is in there further IN!

Jellykat · 03/11/2010 09:35

Aaah, but if you use a pipe cleaner the guckky fridge slime sticks to the hairs.

Note to self- I must get a life!..

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave · 03/11/2010 11:15

And similarly with the cotton bud. It's very satisfying, in a slightly disturbed sort of way...

Furball · 03/11/2010 11:36

I've just sucked mine out with wet/dry hoover

marriednotdead · 03/11/2010 13:33

I have Furball envy Grin

starrychime · 03/11/2010 18:53

Read this with interest - I always thought the hole went right down to the bottom of the fridge - is it just a short passage to the outside then? Mine is yucky and black as well but didn't want to poke about in case all the gunk got stuck halfway down.

iwasyoungonce · 03/11/2010 18:57

I used one of DD's thin paintbrushes.

lynne4p · 28/05/2017 09:03

Thanks all .....I didn't have a pipe cleaner so I improvised and used an handle from a paper carrier bag. Worked a treat.

DrudgeJedd · 28/05/2017 09:07
Grin Thanks for getting back to us Lynn
