Welcome to the October 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here!

Many thanks to our September thread leader StillCounting for guiding us through the traumatic back to work and school period with lots of support and guidance!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Just13moreyearstogo · 24/10/2010 20:21

Batbrain - I was sore and tired just after clearing DDs bedroom. Not surprised you feel like that after so much gardening! Hope you enjoy a nice soak in the bath.
swanriver - I know exactly what you mean. DDs delighted with it but I'm really going to have to be hawk-eyed to stop her trashing it within the week!

Need to: tidy my room, tidy kitchen/DW.

Also looking forward to Downton Abbey!

BatBrainsPumpkinHead · 24/10/2010 20:54

Bath?!? - just the bath is full of stuff Blush shower had to surfice. I have hot water bottle and am watching a program on multiple pregnacies/births, whilst working on the ss (secret santa) pressie and mning. [hgrin]

MrsDinky · 24/10/2010 21:59

Evening all,

With my short, lazy post last night, I neglected to comment on the Sudnay babystep, Swish and Swipe. I think this is probably one of the most effective ones there is .

Quiet day for me today, DH was working, so I took the DCs to my parents for the afternoon and just lazed around.

Am glad some of you have been a bit more productive!

Bat - your garden list sounds like exactly what I need to do to mine, a lot of the summer stuff was still tootling along OK till the first hard frost this week, now there's a mass of dead stuff to get rid of.

Swan / Just13 - I did a massive clearout of DDs room this week too, within two days it was back to how it was, but at least I knew that there was a recently hoovered carpet unde it all this time.

Toffee - my DCs have a knack of redistributing the contents of the recycling bin all over the house, all in the name of creative play.

Nettie - do your family run the caravan park?

Scout - I had a day trip to Philadelphia once and thoroughly enjoyed it (in case you are thinking that is a long way for a day trip I was in the US on business and stayed the weekend with friends living in Delaware, went with them).

Purpleweds - hope you have managed a start on your laundry pile.

Ellie - good news re Ofsted, glad that's out of the way for you.

Imhere - hope the lazyitis lurgy has passed.

Waves at everyone else. Monday links in a minute.

Hello everyone,

yesterday was lovely. Kids party was cool. Dd had wee snooze then we had dinner with friends and then onto end of season party. Dc lasted well and I got back at 10.45 dumped dc in bed and clambered in myself. Dh didn't get home till 3.30am.

Today has by consequence been a bit sluggish. Cancelled swimming lessons and hungabout at home. So have defrosted freezer and cleaned with help of Dd. Cleaned sofas, done some washing. Finished home blessing from yesterday, cleared out caravan, visited inlaws and went out for a Chinese. Ah that's why im so tired. [hgrin]

Tomorrow
Lie in
Dd to development review
Dd new bed to be delivered (find somewhere to put it)
Dh and ds to make peppermint creams
Tidy up again
Donation bag to charity shop
Some family thing this afternoon

mrsd thanks for links again. I love s/s too it's right up there with making my bed. Yes we own caravan park, makes for hectic and very interesting life.
bat well done on garden list. I must get a move on with this myself.

Gonna wave and get myself to sleep. Take care see you Monday! Grin

Toffeefudgecake · 25/10/2010 07:22

Had a lovely day out with MIL, DH and boys yesterday. We went to the seaside and had fish and chips for lunch, then MIL paid for us to go to an aquarium. DH and I were fascinated by a talk given about the octopus there. Did you know octopuses (octopus? octopi?)are as intelligent as a three-year old child? Or that they throw tantrums, like a small child, if they don't get enough stimulus? And that they recognise different people? Not something I would expect to be interested in, but the keeper was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that it rubbed off on us.

My children listened to the talk for about 30 secs, then ran off.

MIL here today, so should be able to get on with lots of housework this morning (she enjoys playing with DS2, which means I can catch up). List for today:

AM: 2 loads of washing, incl sheets and duvet cover
Hang out to dry / use radiators
Ironing
Put away washing, including backlog
(Buy a few Xmas presents for visit home this week, if time)
Morning routine
Make lunch
PM: Visit friend with DS2 and babysit for her child whilst she visits GP (MIL gets time with DS1)
Cook roast chicken for dinner
Eve routine
Bed

Hope you all have a good Monday.

Just13moreyearstogo · 25/10/2010 08:16

Mrs D - thanks for the links. Toffeefudgecake - that's fascinating about the octopus - I had no idea!

Am feeling sluggish, unlike DD who's talking non-stop and wanting my attention so a quick list to start:

Tidy kitchen + do DW/ wash sleeping bag for DD/ stretches and breakfast

swanriver · 25/10/2010 09:26

I'm listening to Dire Straits (Brthers in Arms from Oxfam shop 49p) it is superb..I am in a sort of trance, not helped by losing specs.

put a load of washing in
given bagels to kids (who are wtching tv Blush
dh has gone to work - we are meeting him in town later for a royal visit (to his workplace not the queen Shockand a pizza

find specs (really cannot see anything about 2 inches from computer screen right now)
so need to get dressed
clean cat bowls
more breakfast to kids
dw unload
make beds?
s & s can I faceit?
BE NICE TO KIDS AS ITS HALF TERM

sittinghippo · 25/10/2010 09:43

Morning all, not been on for a couple of days, was a busy weekend.
Did get a major house clean done over the weekend as we discovered cat has fleas (aargh!) so house hoovered top to bottom, all bedding washed and de-flee sprayed the whole place and then hoovered again. (and of course de-fleed the cat)

So today my list isnt too huge as house looks reasonable for a change.

Bake Christmas cake
Write time sheets
Send letter to Mum
DW done
S+S
Make beds
Plant bulbs for spring.
Take DD somewhere lovely for fresh air and exercise! She's already spent best part of 2 hours in front of tv [hshock]

Good luck swan finding your specs. How many fingers am I holding up? [hwink]

Thank you for links MrsD and I am sticking with Swish and Swipe most vigorously.
Sometimes it does feel like an uphill struggle, I put the old shampoo in the loo brush pot as Flylady suggested so its ready to Swish every day, and DH thought it was dirty loo water/urine and washed it away!! Eejit!!

swanriver · 25/10/2010 10:59

done
found specs (under sewing basket?)
dw
breakfast
washing
dressed
beds
s & s 2 bathrooms/loos

feeling cross and tense already at thought of having to be somewhere on time Blush

BatBrainsPumpkinHead · 25/10/2010 11:18

Very sluggish today. again. lack of early night [hblush]

List update

Not bad for CBA mood in. Going for caffine shortly. [hblush] am going to have to start thinking about a normal name again as will soon need to lose the halloween names. And too early for chirstmas names. hmmmmmmmmmmm

PositiveAttitude · 25/10/2010 19:49

Good evening everyone! Grin

Not had a chance to catch up with the thread, so forgive the lack of personal messages, although I noticed that Ellie had a tough week.
Update with my medical situation:- while travelling away last week I received a phone call from my consultant to say that my latest biopsy had come back as "inconclusive", so he wanted me to be seen by a different consultant on my return. Went to see new guy today. He is very nice and I have confidence in him. He showed me the MRI pictures which had been taken on 17th September, when the lump was about half the size it is now. It clearly showed an impressively large tumour in my parotid gland. No wonder I have been feeling awful and in pain!!! It needs "urgent" removal, which apparently means within the next 6 weeks. He said it had been "self contained", which suggests a benign tumour, but we wont know for sure until after it is removed and tested fully. Surgery is tricky due to facial nerves running through the gland, but I have confidence in this surgeon. All in all, the best I could have hoped for from todays appointment really. Although I dont want to have surgery, I want this over with and sorted as soon as possible.

Fat fairy indoctrination has somewhat taken a back seat lately. DH has been brilliant, although is now away for a few days with work. Half term week, so I plan to tackle an "dump cupboard" that really needs sorting and a rather large mountain range of hotspots that have developed on my dresser in the kitchen.

Posting maybe sporadic and selfish until I am sorted. Just had an awful thought that I should really get Christmas organised before I go into hospital as I dont expect I will be up to much for a few weeks afterwards. Hmm Either that, or maybe internet shopping from the sofa, maybe.

Massive waves to all you lovely ladies Grin
