Welcome to the October 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here!

Many thanks to our September thread leader StillCounting for guiding us through the traumatic back to work and school period with lots of support and guidance!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Agreed. Privacy settings need to be checked very carefully.

LinzerTortured · 20/10/2010 14:21

Yes, as long as you avoid the games you should be OK. I wasted far too many hours of my life on one ridiculously addictive game, but now I've given it up FB is much more manageable and a great way of keeping in touch with people.

Have dropped off DS at the birthday party, DD2 at her friend's before ballet and DD1 has gone to play next door, so I'm off for my check-up at the dermatologist's now.

BobLoblaw · 20/10/2010 14:39

Hello :) been at school with dd this morning but I made the beds, s&s and put a load of washing on before we left

I am going to do a five minute room rescue, clear the bedside tables (Kelly'm mission) and then go and get ds, it's football tonight but I've made a yummy soup for after!

Still have no feeding pump Swan very very frustrating Angry

I'll try to catch up with the chat later :)

swanriver · 20/10/2010 15:25

today I've decided kitchen can't get any messier so done lots of baking - flapjacks and choc cake. Teetering pile of washing up

Piano lesson done
dh biopsy showed no problem so that is brilliant -we've had this hanging over us since before summer Smile

he's picking up kids, so I'm hoping for a nice calm afternoon when he returns with them, then I have to take one off again.

purplewednesday · 20/10/2010 16:07

Have made and eaten biscuits! (not all of them mind). I used feethearts oat biscuit recipie that was posted months ago - it was very good. I like the idea mrsD of using a cookie dough syringe. Methinks a trip to lakeland coming on...

couple of bits of ironing done

will pop back later after pilates for a chat!

Have a cling-on baby today who seriously fought all forms of nap. Don't feel nearly as productive as I should have been (had hoped to be) but have done more than I realized. WHEW! Am feeling like I am getting the chaos under (a little) control.

Evening All,

I can't keep up with you all (in terms of thread chat or housework)!

So glad to hear DH has the all-clear SR.

Welcome back PurpleWednesday

Sorry to hear about the various illnesses and other problems among DCs Sad (and sorry for the cover-all statement there).

As for my own DS, he has been a bit more like his normal self over the past week which has been a huge relief for us.

Thanks for all your messages and, don't worry, SC, I am taking it fairly easy now - I don't have much choice as my hips aren't allowing me to move very fast but, on the other hand, I can't sit down for long either as everything completely seizes up if I do!

Have a good evening everyone

sittinghippo · 20/10/2010 19:55

Evening all. Quick check on my list then I'm off to watch TV and switch off, am tired out this evening... (from preg not Flying) [hhmm]

Morning routine done
Empty DW done
Put on WM done
Crack on with glossing in bedroom an hour done
Mission
Vacuum upstairs
Vacuum Stairs
Empty WM done
Reload WM done
Ditto TD done
Ironing done some
Mini shop for veg done and biscuits and chocolate [hblush]
Create something wonderful for dinner (esp after last nights efforts) done and bloody good it was too.
Straighten lounge for guests this afternoon done but as guests included three preschoolers it needs doing again now they've gone.
The rest will wait til tomorrow too tired to even think.
Catch up with the chat tomorrow, hope you all have a lovely evening.

MrsDinky · 20/10/2010 20:52

Oh, you are all doing so well chatting away and Flying, I feel very content here in Fledgling land at the moment. But, the roundups are getting hard! Could you manage without one tonight please? .

Which reminds me, for the newbies, we have promised no Apprentice spoilers on this thread as Linzer is having her relatives in the UK tape the series for her as she is abroad.

Purple - don't think Lakeland do the syringes, I looked there a while ago. I bought it in Lidl on Sunday. DCs are eating the biscuits faster than I can make them, think I might have to make a big batch of cookie dough and freeze it in portions ready to go. Or put the DCs on a diet.

See you all tomorrow

BatBrainsPumpkinHead · 20/10/2010 21:30

Evening.

MrsD - enjoy the apprentice. far more important then the round although personally dislike the program Thank you for the babysteps and trying to keep us all on track so far.

Have done the second coats on ceiling and walls. Just about to go paint the gloss before crashing into bed. Must get up early tomo. Tacky gloss + ds - mummy = nightmare. So got to try to beat the boy. i will be glad for a lazy day and early night tomo.

Tomorrow's list:

Pead appointment
Drop off music for coach
Request replacement form for pre-school club (lost the other one)
Important paperwork (yes i know I still havent done it [hblush]

Early night

Right break over more painting to do. Am shattered been busy today.

Scout19075 · 20/10/2010 21:32

I love the Apprentice and am watching now. I promise, no spoilers from me!

I feel as if I am winging it, too, but am very motivated. Used the "Gather 27 items" process today and found I could gather loads more than 27. It was very, VERY satisfying. I didn't get as many of my "to do list" list checked off today as I had hoped because I had an unhappy BabyScout and a few wrenches thrown at me. Couldn't make it out of the house for errands to the chemist and the recycling center. Hopefully tomorrow!

EnchantressNettieSpaghetti · 20/10/2010 22:11

Damn it i forgot Apprentice was on.

I meant to pop in this morning and post a list but i forgot.[hblush] Had terrible day at work, trying to modify templates on sage, kept crashing and have now lost original template [hangry]

A quick visit from me to say hello and catch up, although I have to afmit that like minim I am struggling to keep up with both flying and chhat Blush.

swan so pleased about your DH, must be a huge relief for both of you Smile

Not much flying, but not much slipping backwards either so on balance I am happy Smile. I always find the 27 thing fling very helpful as well. I use it for tidying as well as throwing away and can often be heard counting under my breathe as I fling DDs toys back into the cupboard of doom.

Hello to everyone else Smile. Sorry about the lack of personl messages but I really really need to go to bed Blush

EnchantressNettieSpaghetti · 21/10/2010 06:44

LinzerTortured · 21/10/2010 07:38

Good morning,

It's the last day of school here before the "autumn holidays" - it's a bank holiday on Tuesday so school is closed tomorrow and on Monday. It's a long weekend next weekend too, with another bank holiday on Monday and then school closed on the Tuesday (schools like to close on random days around bank holidays; sometimes I think it's to make things awkward for parents who have to work) - which I was looking forward to until DH announced last night that he has to fly to Turkey on the bank holiday. We were planning to go to my ILs next weekend but will probably cancel our visit now, especially as DS has been invited to a birthday party on the Saturday which he really wants to go to.

That's great news about your DH swan and must be a huge relief. I will be joining those waiting for results soon, as I have to have a suspicious-looking mole removed the week after next. I'm already a little paranoid about moles as my mum had a malignant melanoma (she's fine now), but am trying to put it to the back of my mind for now and am just thankful that the dermatologist picked it up (it's on the back of my leg, right at the top, so I wouldn't have spotted it myself).

Anyway, must get on with today's list:

Bank/pay bills x3 done
Morning routine
Washing
15 min decluttering in master bedroom
Mission
Finish letter
Afternoon routine
Sort out travel insurance
Finish filling in form for translation agency
Evening routine

BatBrainsPumpkinHead · 21/10/2010 08:41

morning. Have shouted myself hoarse this morning Angry[hsad]. Scared myself when a spider dropped out of the leg of the trousers i was in process of putting on [hshock] its not very flat.
Child is now behaving for gran and will be saint when he gets to school no doubt. I just have to get him there in one piece with what remaining voice I have. [hhmm]

But that is more then enough woe is me and I am going to get chocolate on the way home and sit doing nothing for an hour, with a nice hot drink. In peace.

I hope all those with need and wish to fly have productive days.

Hang in there Ellie It will soon be over.

swanriver · 21/10/2010 09:09

linzer I think that's quite a good idea, as one can take two weekend breaks rather than rushing back on last Sunday night of halfterm as we do here (when travel is superexpensive) - but I can see it would be difficult to keep track of and fit in business trips etc.
dh has decided to go to Berlin for a business trip on the wrong weekend Hmmof halfterm - well it was the right one when he decided it, but now turns out to clash with everything... I think he was trying to escape Halloween..
I have a mole like you [eek] I must get it checked.

ERRAND DAY
hand in last piece of highschool application stuff to Council
buy black gloves and hats for dts' gaelic football match tomorrow
buy some readymade pastry for peperonata tart
deliver school ballot paper
hand in parkng voucher application Blush where is it now?

then clean house in earnest. Despite total declutterment it still remains a total mess - mystery or am I just very very untidy? And I need new clothes despite clothes strewn around my bedroom. I have no tights, no trousers (except one pair of jeans)no nighties, no blouses, 2 jumpers I am sick to death of, and three black skirts. Two jackets in the wrong colours (bright blue and cream) Oh and one pair of purple trainers/walking shoes, no other shoes.

So maybe errands will include
*BUY a colourful skirt and colourful cardigan, and two useful tops, and three pairs of interesting tights.

feetheart · 21/10/2010 09:34

Mum arrives TONIGHT so last minute 'sort out the whole d*mn house' day today [hshock]

List includes:

  • Finish Morning routine
  • Lots of stuff into loft (what can't be seen isn't there!)
  • Hoover upstairs
  • DS's bed into DD's room - luckily his cotbed fits under her cabin bed
  • Air-mattress into DS's room and cats kept out
  • Tidy, dust, empty a drawer, make bed in our room
  • Make Choc and banana cake for friend coming for lunch
  • Hoover living room, hall and stairs
  • Mop kitchen floor
  • Lunch with friend
  • Pick up DC
  • DS's swimming lesson
  • Dinner
  • Bath and bed for DC
  • Frantic run round to finish off all of the above as will never get it done before lunchtime
  • Pick Mum up from airport
  • Enjoy visit in clean, tidy house [hgrin]

Sorry for lack of anything other than a HUGE list. Normal service will return at some point.
