Talk to me about....washing up bowls??

This is without doubt the most random and boring thread I've posted!

Oh well, here goes...

I cleaned my sink today and was mucho proud of myself, then put my white plastic washing up bowl back in and it instantly looked crap again!
I thought about chucking it, but I don't like not having one and I don't have the storage to hide it away when it's not being useed.

Sooooo, does anyone have a washing up bowl that isn't pound shop hell?

God, I hate myself for caring about this! Blush

White ones will always look dirty after about a week.

I have a grey one (no, it didn't start off white!) that I can stash under the sink, but it usually stays in the sink.

I buy a new one fairly regularly - but a good scrub with fairy liquid cleans it up well.

Mine's clean, it gets a once over everytime I do the dishes (too bloody often) it's just the 'plasticy-ness' of it I hate.

I saw www.amazon.co.uk/Normann-Award-winning-rubber-washing-Best-seller/dp/B000L0FZFO this funky silicone washing up bowl in a shop window the other day. I knew it'd be pricey but I thought what the heck, it looks really cool and I actully need one anyway, so I went into the shop to buy it.

Once I had found out the price Shock I left sharpish!

Well in a way I am glad to have found this tread because I never got the washing bowl thing.
What are they for?
There's a sink, presumably to wash things , and there's a bowl, to wash things in? Why?

I think the idea is that a bowl is more hygienic, particularly if you only have one sink in the kitchen. Also you can empty the water and refill with clean water quicker than if you have to wait for the sink to empty completely.

Bowls are easier to wash IMO. Also you might want to put something down the sink (dirty water used to clean the floor maybe) which you wouldn't want in the place you wash your dishes IYSWIM.

Many people don't use washing up bowls - I guess they just clean out the stuff in their dishes into their half sinks? Me, I like a full size sink and a nice bowl in it. They do need a regular scrub though. I have a grey one as well.

I have a clear one. I think it was from Lakeland. It seems to stay pretty clean.

never had washing bowl whilst having sink, cold and hot water

it only made sense to have one when there was no running water in the kitchen

Try filling up sink with solution of bleach with bowl inside & weighted down with something ok to get bleach on, so that bleach solution gets inside bowl too, leave to soak which also cleans sink as well & then wash up well. I do this about once a year if I can even be arsed to do it that frequently!

We have one of those rubber ones in black - my husband is a design addict - but it's really great, looks lovely and everyone always comments on it! Hmmm, I wonder what they say when they leave our house...

In the States I've seen metallic bowls being used for washing up, quite a bit smaller than the sink itself, so not for those of us who leave stuff steeping for a while, but it seemed a good idea for those who don't want grubby scuffed plastic bowls.

I just wash dishes one by one Blush I don't like the the dirty water and putting my hands in it.

I clean my sink after each washing up. I wash up after every use of dishes (unless dh is home alone then I come home to it and do it then Angry ).
