What clothes do you wash at 60 degrees?

Just doing the laundry and remember an item on the radio saying sheets, bath towels, underwear socks should be washed at 60 degrees to kill germs! Do your clothes a survive that heat? If not what do you do instead? OR have I just added more unnecessary worry for the 21 century!

I wash towels in the normal wash if they are not too dirty. Bed sheets and the dogs bed at 90 (although obviously not at the same time) and the dds socks at 60, but purely because they insist on walking around outside in their socks, so they are black.

I don't wash clothes to kill germs. Just to clean them. Our home is probably crawling with germs anyway from the cat and dog. We are still alive and healthy.

Have you seen that new washing powder with anti bac in it??? Why oh why would you need washing powder with anti bac????

Only nappies and towels. Everything else is done at 30, or 40 if visibly dirty or smelly.
I don't think I've ever used the 90 degree cycle on clothes. I run the machine empty on a 90 degree wash to clean it out every once in a while, but am a bit scared to put actual clothes in at that temp!

underwear, bedding, towels and socks if they're getting thrown in with one of the above washes
Baby clothes/vests if poo/vomit covered, otherwise they're in at 40

I wash 3 washes:

Darks at 40
Lights at 40
Towels, bedlinen, underwear and socks, teatowels and dish/cleaning cloths all at 90

Darks, if there's lots, get separated out into blues/reds and I wash all of my underwear by hand.

Everything white - which in our house includes towels, dd's knickers and sports socks.

I only wash Nappies and bedding at 60, everything else goes on a 40 apart from 3 jumpers (2 of mine one of DPs) they go on a 30. Oh i put cushions in on a 30 too.

I don't wash anything at 60. Or 90. Is 40 degrees all the way here.

Everything else at 30/lightly soiled ie towels or 40/normally soiled ie clothes.

Occasionally do a hot white wash at 90 if its all looking a bit grey...

towels
cotton bedding (but not usually polycotton - it pills)
white underwear, T shirts, cotton shirts etc
pillows (always wash with a couple of towels in as well to give them a good pummelling)

yes my pillows need a wash thank you for the reminder! But they have feathers what do you think 40, 60 or.......

feathers can cope woth 60. but use non bio or even better wool detergent.

I do a white wash every now and then at 60 with Vanish in to brighten things up but that is it. Most things I do on 30, some on 40.

All bedding and towels at 60% Most other things at 40%

Bed sheets and tea towels go in at 90. Everything else at 40 except some white underwear that goes in at 60 or 90, depending on how dirty they are (DD's undies, t-shirts etc).

Is something going to happen to me and my clothes that are never washed at greater than 40 degrees? I think that when DD had resuable nappies I used to wash them at 60 sometimes, but not all the time.

Apparently (I should stop reading Good Housekeeping) not all the germs are killed at 40!

I can never decide so I do everything at 50 - half way between 40 and 60 lol

Bedding, towels, underwear, socks and DH's uniform.

I also do a hot wash every month with HG Service Engineer to maintain the machine.

what happens if i wash synthetic on 90 degrees celsius? loses the shape? gets thinner and not so warm anymore? causes fire?

Everything here washed at 30 or 40, if I was worried about germs I would throw in a cap of Zoflora.
