Where does your cheese grater live?

Mine gets shoved from pillar to post, with all my other NIMBY kitchen equipment complaining that it is not "one of them" and doesn't belong in their cupboard.

Sometimes it spends days standing sadly on the draining board, all alone.

Where does yours live? I would like to find mine a good home.

Hully, what are you, the Esther Ransome of the utensils world or what? When did my cheese grater come to you with his problem? Hmmm?

Hullygully · 27/08/2010 19:10

He said I was the only one who would understand.

He cried a bit.

TheFallenMadonna · 27/08/2010 19:13

Three: the box grater and the microplane grater live on top of the microwave, and the nutmeg grater lives in the spice drawer.

loopyloops · 27/08/2010 19:14

Since when was a nutmeg grater a cheese grater? You just wanted to slip the nutmeg one in for effect, didn't you?

Saladbomb · 27/08/2010 19:15

Both mine live in the multi cultural corner cupboard with all the pans, colanders, the kmix, measuring jugs and other random bits. Feel a bit sorry for the juicer which is stuck at the back and hasnt been out for years. I have a very small kitchen so they all have to get along or lump it.

loopyloops · 27/08/2010 19:16

Why is your pan cupboard multi cultural? Got a tagine and a balti dish in there?

TheFallenMadonna · 27/08/2010 19:17

I did, I did! Swanking opportunities re nutmeg graters are few and far between...

Hullygully · 27/08/2010 19:17

Salad - they are very cross and planning to sue. They have also phoned environmental health about overcrowding.

loopyloops · 27/08/2010 19:19

Well, my nutmeg grater lives in the glass jar that the nutmeg lives in near other spices, and the other one lives next to the hot chocolate selection. Yes, selection.

TheFallenMadonna · 27/08/2010 19:22

Oh dear - do you use hot chocolate powders? Not grated chocolate in hot milk? Sad

Wink
loopyloops · 27/08/2010 19:28

Hmmm well, my selection is composed thus:

Choc flakes (guests like it but not me)
Poulain from France (actually made by Cadbury - for breakfast hot choc
Ciobar from Italy - makes the really thick gloopy dessert-like hot choc, for adults in evening-time only.

mathanxiety · 27/08/2010 19:29

My cheese grater is a simple, flat jobby, and it lives in the drawer where I keep useful items like measuring cups and spoons, carving knives and other food prep knives, potato peelers, meat thermometer, rubber bands, whisks, salad tongs and spoons, pizza wheel, ice cream scoop and other sundry and random small items, like matchbox cars, two candle stumps, someone's flash drive, and various unidentified keys.

Mine lives in the clingfilm/kitchen foil/spare cutlery/cookie cutter drawer. Well, the grater part does, it's one of those ones with a container underneath (Ikea), the container is plastic so it lives on the tupperware shelf.

I do like the explanations. A put down, but understated. Nicely done.

Saladbomb · 27/08/2010 20:04

Multicultural only because there are all sorts in there loopy Lids for pans I no longer own, peripherals for the toaster that have some arcane and long forgotten purpose. I think there might be some spanish pottery in there...

I have persuaded them not to sue Hullygully on the reasoning that if they take me for everything I own I will never be able to afford a bigger house, with a bigger kitchen (little do they know these are just the empty promises of a wily landlady, mwwahahahaha)

Hullygully · 27/08/2010 20:14

They don't care, salad. They have long gone beyond reason. Beware the night of the long utensils.

taffetacatski · 27/08/2010 20:14

The Microplane lives in the front of the veryannoyingdrawerwithallthebigimplements in.

The box grater lives with the dinner plates so I can get it quickly.

taffetacatski · 27/08/2010 20:16

oh have remembered the Z list drawer - alltheimplementsthatdon'tfitintheotherdrawerandarerarelyused and feel sadness for them in a Wheezy from ToyStory way :(

Saladbomb · 28/08/2010 09:17

Hully After a restless night dreaming of anthropomorphic kitchen gadgets trying to climb the stairs to lynch me, I think now that Toy Story has obviously been wound up, you should pitch Utensil Story to Pixar. :o

Hullygully · 28/08/2010 10:03

I'm on it.

AnnoyingOrange · 28/08/2010 10:10

My family of graters (big box, little box and rotary) live in the cupboard with the rolling pin, the sieve and the cake tins.

stegasaurus · 28/08/2010 10:21

I don't know. I don't think we have used it since we moved in a month ago. The parmesan grater lives in the cutlery drawer which also contains utensils like the potato peeler, tin-opener, kitchen scissors etc.

YunoYurbubson · 28/08/2010 10:46

You keep your rolling pin in a cupboard?

Weirdo.

OP posts:
AnnoyingOrange · 28/08/2010 10:48

where do you keep yours then, Yuno ?
