Help me style my hallway

(Please excuse the clutter on the stairs)

I bought the console table, mirror and rug new today wanting to restyle my hallway. I like it, but feel that it's missing something. It doesn't have the wow factor I saw in my head when purchasing the items and picturing it all together. It feels a bit too simple, or bare, or maybe the console table is wrong. Can someone suggest something that might help please?

faux olive tree in between stairs and console? Maybe some of them rattan looking baskets underneath the console with a pillow or blanket in?

wishfulthinking25 · 03/07/2026 21:20

Also, I love your mirror! Can I ask where you got it from?

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2026 21:23

It’s lovely but it looks like the rug needs to be bigger. Rugs are terribly difficult to size properly but the general idea is to go bigger than you think you will need.

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2026 21:25

Also, you might try putting a basket under the table and letting a throw blanket casually hang over the side 😆

Itshotinherebutainttakingoffmyclothes · 03/07/2026 21:26

This is the kind of thing AI is good at. It suggested a longer runner style rug, table lamp and the things suggested above.

CoralDreamer · 03/07/2026 21:27

I second the wicker basket with a throw draping over the side. I’d also put a lamp at one side instead of the photo frame. I think in an evening it brings a nice glow to the hall.

Funnily enough, I've considered both of those ideas! The only problem with the baskets underneath is that the console table is only 20cm deep, so the baskets would stick out and wouldn't look right.

It's from the Range! Reduced to £23 atm 😊

I wonder if it’s that there’s lots of white space and if you had furniture with doors on the front there rather than wall it would look less empty.

All nice. I think a slightly patterned wallpaper might be your friend if that is a possibility?

I've just been looking for narrow, rectangular baskets like that one (I'd like round but they wouldn't fit properly), the tallest I've found so far is only 30cm so I'm looking for slightly taller. I like this idea, with the lamp etc from the first ai pic

Not opposed to painting/wallpapering, however, that wall goes up the stairs and I don't want the hassle of trying to decorate that height. If there's any neat way I can do it up until the stairs then I'm happy to but not sure if that's possible

Ah I see. Understandable! I do like the AI suggestion by @Itshotinherebutainttakingoffmyclothes 😁

Try TK MAXX for baskets! Also what about a candle or something?

I've just tried TK MAXX and they have some lovely ones but none the right size. I've got a candle on there but I'm a bit nervous to leave it burning, so it'll probably never get lit, unfortunately 😂

We added a pop of colour to add interest.

It needs colour, and pattern, but especially colour.

Is there anything you'd recommend? What items in which colours etc? I also need to be careful of breakable items as I have a young toddler who hasn't yet learnt not to leave my ornaments alone!

It depends what colours bring you joy! If it were me I’d get a much bigger rug. I love red patterned rugs. And I’d get a tall vase, with coloured foliage in it, for a bit of defined shape, height and colour. But it really is a matter of personal preference! Clever of you to find such a narrow console, ideal.

Supersimkin7 · 03/07/2026 22:51

Cover up the sockets and break up
the line between the table and the radiator. Baskets are good - you also need a big bowl for keys etc..

Have you seen those candle warmer lamp things, that might work well here.

Oh thats a shame! Also instead of a candle what about a diffuser or oil burner? X
