Anyone else love front doors?

Does anyone else have a thing for front doors? I just love looking at front doors, sounds random but I love architecture and interior design, my favourite would be a Victorian timber door, especially in pretty colours. I’d love to have a Victorian house worthy of a beautiful stained glass front door but alas we live in a 1970s build and it wouldn’t look quite right. I follow Gelata doors on instagram and they post some beautiful doors like this one 😍 Just wondered if anyone else is like this or just me?

Yes I was going to mention Gelata and you had them in your OP. I’m planning a matte black one for our front door at the moment.

I love a front door. That first pic is probably my dream one, after one which is really ancient (which I was lucky enough to have in my old very old house). We are renting at the minute, horrible house really but it has quite a nice arched front door which makes it more tolerable to me

I liked with my house as soon as I saw the front door. It's an original 1930s front door with 3 vertical panels and a stained glass sun ray pattern window at the top. It's the only reason I've not enclosed the outer porch.
If I did create an outer porch I would get a door like this to fill the arch. I like the way the door works with the arch and the glazed sections are circular

Could you enclose the porch and move those spectacular doors to the new front maybe so as to not lose the impact?

Me.

I became obsessed wit this website when we were replacing our door a few years back: Home - Period Pine Doors

OMG, thank you SO much for this link. I'm now obsessed with it too. We need a new front door for our Victorian house and it's really wide (around 92cm). I thought we'd end up paying £££ for a new door that will look like everything else in the neighbourhood. We're based in London, but we have a holiday booked in Whitby later this year so we'll definitely be making a detour!

CluelessAboutBiology · 11/06/2026 20:21

I only went to view a house that I later bought because I liked the front door.

sadly the house I live in currently is ugly and the front door is even uglier. I’d like to change the door but 1) I don’t know what would suit this ugly house and 2) DP says “there’s nothing wrong” with the current front door.

This is the best one I have ever seen online. It is in Belgium somewhere.

I have found my people! I have a large collection of door photos from all over the place. Luckily no-one has ever come out and asked me what the hell I am doing photographing their door but I'm sure the day will come...

I love mid century architecture and my dream trip would be to Palm Springs, home of the famous pink door. 😍

msmillicentcat · 11/06/2026 20:43

Ooh marking my place! I love front doors. I take loads of photos of them especially on holiday.

My previous house was an Edwardian terrace in London and I acquired an original Edwardian front door, restored it and designed stained glass for it to match existing stained glass. Then I painted it pink. I loved it so much and I still feel sad to have left it (it's been 4 years now!).

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 11/06/2026 21:16

When I lived in an area full of 1920s/ 1930s terraces and semis, I often used to go for walks and look at the houses and in particular any original features. Front doors, stained glass, leaded windows etc. Some houses had a house name in original stained leaded glass above their front door.

Squirrelchops1 · 11/06/2026 21:18

I love a front door that's worthy of a beautiful wreath.
Ive only had 1 decent front door and that was a bespoke oak door for a house i renovated. It needed a special door to set it off.

....and door knockers and other furnishings. Love it.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 11/06/2026 21:23

KimWexlerGoodman · 11/06/2026 15:35

Have any of my fellow door lovers found a decent composite alternative? DH def wants composite when we change our awful uPVC door but they don’t match up in my eyes.

You can get UPVC doors now in the style of traditional timber doors, see https://www.evolutionwindows.com/doors/products/front-doors

Have you looked at composite doors close up? I didn’t like the surface texture. To me, it didn’t look at all like wood.

Beautiful! Very Art Nouveau.

Pippin2017 · 12/06/2026 08:28

I have photo albums on my phone devoted to front doors, with a subsection for front doors at Christmas.........

daffodilandtulip · 12/06/2026 08:30

I love the 30s style, wooden door with stained glass, and side panels of stained glass. I have a pvc door and I hate it. (Wooden would look daft on my house.)

Edited

I was in Palm Springs earlier this year. Absolutely stupendous architecture, a little mid century gem plonked in the desert.

Fun door facts: I am sure I read somewhere that a blue front door adds 4k to the value of your house! And also, there is a museum dedicated entirely to doors in Pezenas in SW France.

I love looking at doors when I’m out and about. I definitely have a favourite front door in my road, number 16. I always admire it when I walk past.

Crikey, does it? I've just moved, a few months ago, Victorian with blue front door. Smaller than my last one, which is a shame. Was going to paint it..........will reconsider! Inner pine door with stained glass panels...if outer door is open, have marvellous coloured light reflections on walls. Front doors are the face
of a house; love them. I stare at lots!

MauveFatball · 12/06/2026 19:35

I live in a 1930s semi-detached that still has its original stained glass half side panels (door in middle), unfortunately we were flooded back in 2007 but I insisted on a solid oak triple glazed stained glass door as the replacement door - still love it 18 years later.

Summervibes83 · 11/06/2026 12:40

That one is beautiful. I've got a 1930s house and I desperately want to replace the horrid white PVC with one like that! Just waiting to find a spare 2k+ lying around..

Try a salvage yard!
They are like libraries of doors

deeahgwitch · 12/06/2026 20:03

I too like front doors.
Ours is a big heavy mahogany one (painted over - purists would hate me). Workmen always admire it when they call to do jobs. As do our friends.
I didn’t notice it when we first looked at the house. Blush
I love a bright pink door or a pale blue one. Grecian blue gloss is lovely too.

NunsOnTheRum · 12/06/2026 22:40

Me!!!!!!’

My kids call it my Door Porn. I am particularly bad whilst on holiday in a foreign country, normal people photograph their food plates, whereas I stealth photograph people’s front doors. Last summer in Spain was particularly thrilling, also found some fabulous front doors in Copenhagen last winter.

sunnymummy238 · 12/06/2026 23:59

I’m really obsessed with front doors at the moment as I’m having to replace the glass in mine and two side panels. I’m thinking etched glass or a cut glass design. Any suggestions of where to get it made appreciated!

I live in Kenya and the old Swahili style doors in Mombasa and Lamu are just incredible! They often have little benches so people who need a rest can have a seat in the shade. Similar doors in Zanzibar too.

I'm not sure I can follow that...

Although I do love this local example which has conveniently come on the market this week:

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/89421963

Sorry to be the Dolly downer on your thread, but it appeared on my "featured".

I am the ex spouse of a door lover. Note ex.

He used to annoy the hell out of me on holidays by stopping to admire doors. I remember one holiday in Italy where we were late for where we needed to be solely because he couldn't stop stopping. The photo collection when we got back was more of doors than the major sites or the beautiful scenery.

Fill your boots on solo holidays. But please box your love of doors up when with others.

Annaruthb · Yesterday 08:29

You are my people!!!! Even DH points out doors for me to photo on holidays etc these days.

Its like the right lipstick on a beautiful face
