Does This Bed Look "Made" Enough?

Curious if people consider this an acceptable view of the bedroom for guests who may pass by the doorway? Bed was made in a bit of a rush & quite honestly I'm not a naturally tidy person, so I hope the state of the bedroom isn't too terribly offensive to anyone (ADHD to preempt a potential dripfeed) 😅 so I'm wondering what other people's opinions are?

Bonus questions,

-Do you generally leave your bedroom doors ajar, or completely closed when hosting friends?

-How often do you make your bed? Every morning, every night, only if guests, etc?

-Do you ever peek in other people's bedrooms if they leave the door open while you're at their at their house? 🙈 (and by "peek" I mean just a quick but observatory glance, not going into the room or anything!!)

TIA if you respond, I know this is a bit of a silly topic but I really do wonder what other people think!

No one needs to see where you have sex. Just close the door.

You make an excellent point! At least the blinds are closed eh? Incidentally my LLs live directly next door, and one of them likes to walk the dog around the property, often quite close to the windows... she did mention when we moved in that she walks the dog around our yard sometimes, but it always makes me jump when I glance outside and see an unexpected person just outside the window!

I think it looks fine but I’m also adhd and I also have hooks everywhere because of the out of sight out of mind - it’s called object permanence

The hooks do help with that!! Also better than the dreaded alternative of putting them in the "Will Definitely 100% Organize And Put These Away Properly Later" Pile Of Doom...

Just close the door to guests, they don't need to see your bedroom
To get rid of the hooks maybe you could get a hanger that hooks over the door. I use mine for dressing gowns, anything hooded that could have another wear. Would free up your wall space and if anyone did open the door they wouldn't see the coats

Sunnyscribe · 06/09/2025 02:46

I think I'd only stress about my bed being made (for other people's sake) of I had a house viewing or something.

From that picture you can see some effort has been made to make the bed but yeah it could be neater and more attractive looking.

PennyRest · 06/09/2025 03:19

Looks fine to me OP!

TheGrimSmile · 06/09/2025 05:05

I make my bed just before I get in it at night. So if you passed my bedroom during the day, the bed wouldn't be made at all. I leave my door open in the day and wouldn't give a shit if guests looked at my unmade bed. Your bed looks fine BTW. It looks "made" to me.

whoboo · 06/09/2025 05:07

Do you really not have anything better to think about?

JustReal · 06/09/2025 05:10

It doesn't look horrible, IMO, but it's a bit bland and the bed could be made a little better.

It's a guest room, after all, so it depends on how often it's used as to how much effort you put in, I assume?

As a guest, I would appreciate the air conditioner!

Bonus questions,
-Do you generally leave your bedroom doors ajar, or completely closed when hosting friends?
All doors in my house are left open

-How often do you make your bed? Every morning, every night, only if guests, etc?
Every morning

-Do you ever peek in other people's bedrooms if they leave the door open while you're at their at their house?

Only at the inlaws because I do a 'health check' on them to ensure they are keeping up their house, have all they need, etc. They are in their late 70s and proud.

I would be too scared to check the homes of anyone else! I don't always want to know things I find out!

Do you only jave sex in the bedroom? How pedestrian!

By your reckoning no-one would be able to enter my house.

FancyCatSlave · 06/09/2025 05:16

I make my bed if the cats have vacated it. So it’s about 50/50. Doors are always open for the cats. I don’t have overnight guests as no spare bedrooms. But in theory if we had any they would be able to look at bedrooms.

If I stay anywhere else I love a good nosey about, so an open door would get peaked at.

Your room looks ok tidiness wise but it is unconventionally styled so I’d notice that more than the bed. But have your room to suit you, no-one else.

verycloakanddaggers · 06/09/2025 05:26

That bedroom is absolutely fine. Life's way too short to be worrying about these details!

Just shut the door if you have any VIPs visiting.

Maddy70 · 06/09/2025 06:51

I've seen worse but straighten the top part. I'm an untidy person but I always make my bed

BrendaSmall · 06/09/2025 06:56

Is that a window near the bed?
the room definitely needs to be tidier and there needs to be more natural light
I make the bed every morning after getting out of it, curtains opened, our windows are open 24/7 365 days a year!
Also guests don’t come up our stairs, there’s no need to , doors stay open all the time

EffectivelyDecluttering · 06/09/2025 07:31

It's fine, we leave our duvet turned back to air the bed all day, blinds down in summer to keep the sun out and room cool (it gets afternoon/evening sun and this makes a big difference), We have hooks for worn-once clothes on the end of the wardrobe just inside the door and the door is left open during the day so you can see them. However guests don't come upstairs as we have a downstairs loo, no spare room so overnight guests are rare. I don't peek into other people's bedrooms but I find overly dressed and immaculate rooms unwelcoming (when we stay in a hotel or holiday home with an overdressed bed any runners, cushions etc are deposited in the bottom of the wardrobe for the duration).

IMissSparkling · 06/09/2025 07:42

It looks extremely tidy to me. I also have ADHD and am very messy so my bedroom door stays firmly closed if anyone comes round to the house!
Also I don't normally make the bed, I just pull the covers up when I get back in it at night.

LavenderBlue19 · 06/09/2025 07:54

Looks fine. The bed is made. It's tidier than my bedroom 😂 It's obviously not hotel immaculate, but does it need to be? I would open the blind because I can't stand blinds/curtains down in the day (makes me feel claustrophobic) but that's all.

I also have ADHD and I would say be wary of a laundry bin with a lid. Mine immediately gets piled with stuff and then I can't get into it to put clothes in, so the dirty clothes end up in a pile on the floor. I have a vague plan to stop using the lid, but then I don't have anywhere else to put the clothes I haven't worn enough to wash...

Completely get having things in full sight so you don't forget them.

Paaseitjes · 06/09/2025 08:04

It looks lived in but it's fine. If you want a beautiful house as a hobby, crack on, but I prefer proper hobbies and only have friends with proper hobbies. I don't judge friends houses so long as they're cleanish because I'd rather be friends with fun interesting people.

Your bed looks fine to me. From some of your comments I think maybe you are considering giving your bedroom a makeover to smarten it a bit generally? If so, I would consider getting rid of that border. I would just go for plain walls all one colour (which some pictures on them if you like). I think it would be more calming. Hope you don't mind this observation.

Bonus questions;

  1. No hard and fast rule. Ajar usually I think.
  2. I try to roughly make it (straighten duvet and pillows) each morning before I leave for work, as it is nice to come home to a made bed. Does depend how much I am rushing though.
  3. Yeah if I am brutally honest I usually would sneak a peak through an open door if passing. Just put of curiosity to see their decor/furnishings. (I moved realty and had to get lost stuff from scratch, so these things interest me......
Wingingit73 · 06/09/2025 08:28

Im a bit surprised at any criticism here. If you have invited someone into your home then they're your friend snd they dont judge you. Also, instead of worrying......shut the door x

Ilovelurchers · 06/09/2025 08:30

Thanks for sharing this - it's a very persuasive argument actually. I might try this!
