Sofas that have stood the test of time - where to buy a decent sofa?

We bought two leather sofas around 4 years ago from Sofology and the seating has sagged badly. No surprise Sofology aren’t interested and say it’s normal wear and tear. We are looking to purchase new sofas but the big furniture companies like DFS, Furniture Village etc. all have terrible reviews and seem to have recurring issues of sagging or pooling fabric/leather after a short time. Can you give me your sofa brands that have stood the test of time? I am fed up of finding a sofa I like and then reading bad reviews. We don’t mind if it’s fabric or leather, although would prefer seat cushions that are not fixed and can be turned regularly. Thanks 😊

I have bought many sofas over the years. By far the best ones have been from Sofa sofa. Ordered on line. You can get fabric samples. Very reasonably priced. But last for years. I had the last one for 16 years. I then gave it away as I needed a change. It is still going strong at my friends house. Absolutely no sagging of the cushions at all.

boconcept has really stood a lot of wear and tear in 12 years (looking at you greyhound!!) but we chose a durable rather than ‘fancy’ fabric and I’m sure they can re-cover when the time comes 🤔 it was expensive for us at the time but really worth it

I have leather sofas from Allders that are in their 22nd year and still look good and have lasted well. No plans to replace them. That isn't especially helpful tho, as Allders is no more.

I have leather Tetrad sofas, bought around 20 years ago at their factory shop in Preston (no idea if it is still going). They still look fine, perhaps a bit nicer as they soften with age, and I've never fallen out with the style despite many changes of decor.

@Londonmummy66 woukd you be able to recommend any reupholsteres ?

I have a leather M&S sofa that looks like new, it's 22 years old.

DFS here as well as I think it’s 22/23 years old. Still going strong although we’ve had 4 cats.

m&S sofa bed that is about 18 years old is also still fine. And the cats haven’t attacked that one so much

2 ago we bought from Sofa Sofa (online but made in Wales) based on recommendations here. Honestly the worst sofa’s we’ve had, we had to return for repair within the first year. They came back exactly as they were before. Total waste of time and they were pretty unhelpful and disinterested in solving the issue. We will probably get rid of them this year.

Meanwhile the 7yr DFS sofa we gave away to friends to make way for the them is still going strong. 😏

Our Heals one is 21 years old and just as good as when we bought it.It could do with a new cover but structually perfect. I wish it wasn't as DH won't replace it and I'd like a new one rather than recovering .It's so old their quality might not be the same now but it does show it's sometimes worth spending more as it was 2K when we got it which was a fortune to us then.

Tetrad. They have a factory outlet. I hired a van and drove to the factory for the last sofa I bought. I’ve got wool tweed in one room, linen/cotton in another and velvet in another. None of them are showing any signs of wear.

In London yes

CookingFatCat · 13/05/2025 20:17

Our dfs sofa has lasted 17 years. We will go back to dfs as I’ve seen a beautiful velvet sofa there. The finance option is good too.

I’d recommend a DFS over a Barker and Stonehouse sofa. The B and S one i spent lots on, didn’t fare well at all

Furniture village, over 10 years and good

Takemeawayy · 14/05/2025 10:00

I saw someone else had already mentioned them but the lounge co. Our sofas are 8 years old and still look like new. We have aqua clean fabric and with 2 toddlers there are no massive stains, everything just wipes off. Would 100% recommend and buy again. Not the cheapest though but they do good sales

youlied · 14/05/2025 10:03

Ikea. Plus you can remove the covers and wash them. Ideal for me as I have dogs.

Londontown12 · 14/05/2025 20:17

I have a John Lewis one ! Had it in 2020 ! It’s absolutely fab but the duck feather stuffing hasn’t kept its bounce which is normal but actually today I had them re foamed at our local upholstery place and only cost just over £300 sofa looks brand new again x

MrsKateColumbo · 14/05/2025 20:20

I got 10 years out if a DFS one, it was stained and the cushions went a bit saggy so i gor another dfs one

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 14/05/2025 20:31

Mine is from love your home for less. Over a decade old and still looks brand new.
