How often do you buy fresh flowers for the home?

Treated myself to some fresh flowers yesterday as I have found some lovely tulips at a reasonable price at the supermarket - £4. I hesitated when I saw them but then gave in and now they are making me so happy I wonder why I don't do this more often. Part of me feels it's a bit wasteful and wonder how often do people buy fresh flowers for the home?
This is very much a one off for me, I usually only have them on occasions when they are gifted to me, for example bday and anniversary.

Do it, and do it more often!
I get them for myself almost as often as I want now I'm single and exh isn't drinking the profit of my labour. What stops me is not having a free surface to put them on (not as bad as it sounds, I just don't like cluttered surfaces ).
I always get some for dd's room, she loves pink roses and for less than £10 a month it's worth it and she sees it as me taking care of her.

I opt for flowering pot plants - a little easier on the wallet and very rewarding to keep.

So no cut flowers anymore in our house.

From mid-end of January I start buying daffodils and keep it up until end end of "daffodil season". There's always a fresh bunch of my dining table. I struggle during January and February and daffodils are my favourite flower and remind me better days are coming. They also have special memories connected to a lost loved one.
I also love tulips but I won't buy them until later in the year because I'm very much a "everything has it's time" person.
Once spring gets more established there's just so many lovely flowers about in the garden that I don't feel the need until December when I bring poinsettias in, so I'll just get the occasional bunch of I see some a feel like it or I need brightening up a bit.

I buy some every week, only £4 for some roses etc. They look lovely in the house and I pick a different flower/colour every week.

Ifailed · 21/02/2025 09:42

never, I prefer them growing in the ground.

Pootles34 · 21/02/2025 09:44

I try to grow as many as I can - the carbon footprint for most cut flowers is really shocking. And the ones you grow yourself (sweet peas, cosmos, lovely English roses) you can't really buy commercially! The only real exception is daffodils.

I used to every couple of weeks, but it fell by the wayside - as food prices kept going up and up it felt like an extravagance to be putting flowers in the food shop! I do miss having fresh flowers in the house though, might have to get some 😊

My parents had a lovely, large garden when I was growing up, and my mother always had flowers in beautiful vases in all the main rooms in the house - she still does.

Alas, my garden is functional and much, much smaller, so I buy myself flowers every week. Whilst the florists do a lovely job, and I do love them, I do prefer the arrangements my mum made :) Sometimes she brings me flowers and I just love it.

Yes, it does cost a bit, but i love them so it’s worth it to me. I contrast it by thinking other people buy a takeaway coffee every day, or have a regular expense of getting their nails or eyelashes done. Those things aren’t for me, but flowers are. They make me so happy.

GoldMoon · 21/02/2025 09:56

Sadly I don't , not because I don't like them but because we have a cat that would try to eat them and I don't want the worry if not knowing if they are poisonous to them .

TheBeautifulSausage · 21/02/2025 09:59

I grow cutting flowers on the allotment so no longer buy any - but from about March until about October we always have multiple vases of fresh, cut flowers around the house.

Starlightstarbright4 · 21/02/2025 10:01

I buy them occasionally … I do love them - if i bought them all the time they wouldn’t feel like a treat ..

I do buy them more in winter than summer

nahthatsnotforme · 21/02/2025 10:04

I buy them fairly often and cut from the garden in summer

This year my 'project' in the garden is to grow more flowers for cutting and am in the middle of trying to work out how..

Movinghouseatlast · 21/02/2025 10:58

I grow flowers for cutting. I love fresh flowers in the house. When there aren't any in the garden I buy them every other week.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/02/2025 11:08

About 3 times a year

MiniCooperLover · 23/02/2025 09:28

Every other week, I buy flowers that tend to last at least a week if not more, then I recycle and refresh. Life can be too miserable not to have a £5 bunch of fresh flowers on the windowsill.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/02/2025 09:32

I but them a lot. Especially if I know I’m having visitors. At this time of year I buy daffodils every week, then start buying tulips nearer spring. And I always have a big vase of lillies on the island from April through to Sept. Sometimes buy gladioli instead as they’re much cheaper than lillies.

elrider · 23/02/2025 09:36

Never. I used to do it occasionally, or cut flowers from the garden, but my current garden has no flowers and I haven't had time to do anything about that, I don't have spare money to buy them, and there's no particularly good place to put them that won't get in the way or be knocked over by my kids!

One day in the future, with older kids and flowers growing in the garden with any luck, I'm sure I'll have them in the house again!

EleanorReally · 23/02/2025 09:37

very rarely
sometimes daffodils

EleanorReally · 23/02/2025 09:38

i admit i was nearly tempted with tulips yesterday but resisted

Fintoo · 23/02/2025 09:46

Every week, they make me happy

Hazylazydays · 23/02/2025 09:54

Every week, it brings me pleasure just to see them, flowers are such beautiful intricate creations, nature at it best 😊

AuntieMarys · 23/02/2025 10:19

Weekly. Currently 6 vases of daffs and 2 of tulips in the house

jazzyrockyblues · 23/02/2025 12:11

I buy flowers weekly, it’s one of my favourite things to do.

Cattreesea · 23/02/2025 12:16

I have a lot of plants and flower pots in my house and garden, but I also buy cut flowers every week.

I started when I had a really bad mental health crisis two years ago, I bought sunflowers to cheer myself up and bring some 'sunshine' inside the house.

I have kept the habit ever since and buy different type of flowers depending on the time of the year.

I don't buy expensive stuff. Usually less than £4.

YourIcyReader · 23/02/2025 12:18

Usually weekly for me - either a big-ish bunch that I can split into two small ones, or two small bunches.

I find the cheap roses from Tesco actually last really well!

I have a few bunches of dried flowers in the house, some from Etsy and some I dried myself from fresh. I am also not averse to faux flowers - Dunelm have some really nice looking faux hydrangea that I fancy for my kitchen table!
