Small ikea items that are vital for life?

Right people. My daughter's clip-on desk lamp has broken and i am told that no replacement lamp will possibly do apart from the very same one from ikea. That exact hue and the brightness is just how it has to be apparently... Whatever. Who am I to argue.
Anyway. We live 30 miles from the nearest Ikea so I'll be getting it delivered. Up to 15kg is £5 (or free if I spend over £60)
So... what small ikea items should I add to my order. What do I NEED in my life??

I have ikea bath sheets that must be 20 years old and are still great. Sometimes I ponder getting more, which will likely outlive me. Heirloom towels.

That would be a 60 mile round trip, and with petrol at over £5 per gallon, it would cost more than £10 in fuel, let alone the two hour travel time.

Plus another £1.50 for a bag of Liquorice Allsorts to eat on the way there, and another £1.50 for a bag of Dolly Mixtures to eat on the way back.

Better to pay for delivery or add 16 of those very long OMTANKASAM shoe horns, and that's all of your Christmas presents sorted (and it's only February!) .

Edited

Not to mention the plate of meatballs, you'll be starving going all that way.

Same here, they are fantastic and huge and lasted 25 years so far.

One of these or more! For an extra £3 you can get a silicone blue lid which means you can slam it in the oven with a lid.
Im trying to use less plastic with regards to food these days.

The food containers recommended by @Ohyeahwaitaminute are excellent. I have a load of the round ones with the clip lids that I use for soup. Each round one is an individual portion, so I make the soup and freeze in the containers then a quick lunch is microwave straight from the freezer and eat straight from the container (I need to sit it on a plate as the container gets hot in the microwave). The round ones also sit in my Ninja air fryer (I haven't checked the square or rectangular) so good for things that need to be crisped up after being microwaved like cauliflower cheese.

I use Glis https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/?q=glis (the white 3-pack) a lot for quilting supplies, they are quite small but they stack really well and you can see what's inside.

Look what I've found at IKEA

IKEA Search puts the extensive IKEA range at user’s fingertips.

How expensive is the lamp? Is it worth buying two to prevent this situation occurring again?

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 12/02/2025 22:59

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar The square IKEA ones JUST fit in my mini air fryer.

They're brilliant aren’t they?

Milk frother
Bag clips
Freezer bags
Cork mats
Towels
Door mat
Candles

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/02/2025 23:31

Socktopus for drying small things (like socks!).
Metal sporks.
Battery powered milk frother.
Tealights.
Picture frames.
Biscuits.
3 pack of scissors.
Storeage boxes or bags.

romanfriendsandcountrywomen · 12/02/2025 23:43

Snurrad storage turntable for the fridge. Like the lazy Susan mentioned upthread but bigger and wastes less space.
Fantastic for forgotten jars at the top back of the fridge!

Bevara sealing clips. Cannot manage without these. Seal all half opened packets, cheese, biscuits, rice etc. Seemingly indestructible.

Lightbulbs. Always good value from Ikea.

Sometimes the urban/rural divide is stark! 30 miles is just the nearest big town for me 😂

But that’s a sixty mile round trip to save a fiver? It would cost more in petrol, never mind the waste of time.

TianasBayou · 13/02/2025 00:35

Cheap loo brushes (I know MN hates them but 🤷‍♀️)
Pretty pump bottle for liquid soap
Washing up brush that stands up on its suction pad end.
Trays
Picture frames
Multipack of scissors

Lavenderandbrown · 13/02/2025 00:45

I like all the glass containers with bamboo lids
all the zip seal bags in various sizes. I buy them for the designs and love that they are uniquely ikea

The washing up brush with a suction pad on the bottom which you can stick to the draining board. Much better than leaving it to dry lying on it's side. £1.

It wouldn't cost thar much more in my car (maybe £6) and it's a fun trip out, I wouldn't even consider mail order but we're all different.
