Small ikea items that are vital for life?

Right people. My daughter's clip-on desk lamp has broken and i am told that no replacement lamp will possibly do apart from the very same one from ikea. That exact hue and the brightness is just how it has to be apparently... Whatever. Who am I to argue.
Anyway. We live 30 miles from the nearest Ikea so I'll be getting it delivered. Up to 15kg is £5 (or free if I spend over £60)
So... what small ikea items should I add to my order. What do I NEED in my life??

I like these drying mats for either side of the sink. I also bought some from aldi, but the ikea ones a better quality. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/nyskoeljd-dish-drying-mat-dark-grey-00451059/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Cooking&gQT=1

I bought this for a drawer, but in my case, I had differing shapes of jars, but I could see it helpful if you have similar sized ones.

I have an ikea duvet cover which has little holes in the corners, so you can pull the duvet to the edges, but not visible when the bed is made. It was DH's when he was single, so it must be 25yrs old at least. No idea if they do similar, but its very easy to put the cover on.

Kilppkaktus boxes for the fridge.

Skubb boxes for organising clothes in drawers.

Pressa socktopus.

30 miles isn’t that far. You’re better off going there!

confusedlots · 11/02/2025 00:40

The glass containers with different types of lids (I like the blue flexible rubbery lids) are fantastic for storing fruit in the fridge, it lasts so much longer! I use them for strawberries, raspberries, cut up melon etc.

PinkArt · 11/02/2025 00:41

Definitely the soctopus. And a moppe.

For a £12 light? Through the city traffic?
Financially maybe you're right its worth it. But in terms of time and hassle it's a hard nope.
Thanks for the ideas so far.. the spice rack and Pressa are definitely on the list!

Sometimes the urban/rural divide is stark! 30 miles is just the nearest big town for me 😂

POTC · 11/02/2025 01:49

I love the sandwich bags, it's 2 hours to ikea for me so I don't get them often but they're so good!

That would be a 60 mile round trip, and with petrol at over £5 per gallon, it would cost more than £10 in fuel, let alone the two hour travel time.

Plus another £1.50 for a bag of Liquorice Allsorts to eat on the way there, and another £1.50 for a bag of Dolly Mixtures to eat on the way back.

Better to pay for delivery or add 16 of those very long OMTANKASAM shoe horns, and that's all of your Christmas presents sorted (and it's only February!) .

I'd take the trip, if only for meatballs in the cafe.

GoldenLegend · 11/02/2025 05:07

Definitely the socktopus, also the rubber shower mats and the travel cutlery in a little pouch.

if you visit and have an IKEA family card, their weekday lunch offer is amazing.

PurBal · 11/02/2025 05:17

Bevara food clips
If you have small children Fabler cutlery is the only choice.

Flexilexy · 11/02/2025 06:21

Oh totally agree with the socktopus and the bergenes phone holder. I use mine on bedside table and it means I can put my phone on its side and plug it in then through the night it goes into a special mode so it doesn’t send notifications and I can check the time without a bright light.

My suggestion would be the ziplock food bags. They come in boxes of different sizes and are so useful for so many things.

I definitely need a lazy Susan for mr fridge now.

Have you looked into using one of their local collection points?

I’m team Go There, but ours is 30 miles cross country not through a city, it’s an hour and a half round trip but I love driving and in-person shopping and my car is economical (it would cost about £6 of petrol) so it’s a no-brainer for me. You see so much when you are browsing round - I know that’s the whole point for them, impulse buys. I’d just go at a quiet time for traffic, they are open late.

Anyway, I agree with sandwich bags (although the pattern on them is annoying, I’d prefer clear) and bag clips, also the socktopus, we have two of those. Sachets of meatball sauce if you can get them online, you can buy the meatballs elsewhere, I have tried making the sauce from scratch but it’s never the same.

Paper napkins, tealights, cloth napkins - we bought a set of these a few years ago and they are in constant use

Plastic suction storage containers for the bathroom

FamilyAreEverything · 11/02/2025 07:51

Also voting for reusable sandwich bags and bag clips, plus their reusable silicon covers. Their trivets for the kitchen are also great.
If you have hard floors at home I’d highly recommend their FIXA pads which help your furniture glide on the floor easily.
Their glassware is very good value and we have a job lot for using in the garden in the summer, especially if we have guests as it seems impossible to hire glasses anywhere now.

HappyAsASandboy · 11/02/2025 09:45

Sandwich/freezer bags (they have double lines to close them and so never leak.

Skubb boxes to organise drawers (the set with two big squares, two small squares and two rectangles.

Travel mug with the yellow clip on the top. Goes in the dishwasher and doesn't leak and is cheap.

Tiny frying pan (17cm?) for fried eggs.

Kids coat hangers if you have under 10 year old kids.

Catslovingoliveoil · 11/02/2025 22:14

If you didn't need anything else have you checked if you can get it on Amazon? I've got a couple of ikea favourites on there. Sometimes a little more expensive but less than the journey or postage.
