SOFAS- who would you avoid like the plague?

MummyLongLegsss · 25/07/2024 19:53

I've read some awful reviews over the years but can't remember which.

Sofa?https://www.sofa.com/gb/bespoke-sofas/bluebell-sofa/p/SO-BLU

Loaf? loaf.com/products/pudding-sofa?size=small&source=plp

I've only seen one possible sofa in J Lewis and fear it may be being discontinued.

I'm looking for something similar to the above.

In my experience, avoid sofology. Bad service (after paying, before delivery) and badly made sofas

JellyMouldJnr · 25/07/2024 19:56

In my experience loaf is better than sofa.com.

GorillaGlue · 25/07/2024 19:59

OP definitely do not go anywhere near Sofology! Absolutely awful customer service!

Once you’ve signed on the dotted line, that’s it. You cannot get in touch with them for love nor money. They delivered my sofa with multiple scratches and wear and tear on the bottom, so I tried contacting customer service. It took me months to get through! Months! Every time I called them, it didn’t matter what time of the day, I was number 30-40 in the queue. I would hold on for hours at a time ( I was desperate) only to get to number one, have someone
pick up the call and immediately disconnect me. This happened multiple times! I managed to get my refund 8 months later after threatening to involve the financial ombudsman. Genuinely one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had!

I have a sofa.com sofa and I love it. It's one of the best things I own. There was a woman on here a while ago that was absolutely convinced that the ones they deliver you are different from the ones in the store. It would be quite an elaborate scam. I bought an ex-display so I can neither confirm nor deny the theory.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/07/2024 20:16

We used to have an ikea sofa, "upgraded" to sofa.com one and it isn't, I'm, as good as the ikea one. The cushions are particularly saggy.

Laura36TTC · 25/07/2024 20:18

SCS 🤮

ShaunaSadeki · 25/07/2024 20:19

People slate DFS but my sofa is 18 years old and apart from the back cushions, which we have replaced, it is still absolutely fine. I almost wish it would die so I could get a new one. A friend has had 3 really expensive ones in the same timeframe.

Roselilly36 · 25/07/2024 20:21

Furniture Village

We love our DFS sofa!

Redlarge · 25/07/2024 20:32

Next and dfs

tryingtocatchthewind · 25/07/2024 20:34

My John Lewis sofa is 17 years old and still going strong. I’m terrified about replacing it as I’ll never find one as good

MartyFunkhouser · 25/07/2024 20:35

We keep sofas for only 5 years as I get sick of them. We’ve now had 2 lots of 2 seaters from Next and they’re still going really strong in relatives’ homes. One pair is 25 years old.

Ditto M&S. And, shockingly, Dunelm which were dirt cheap.

little0miss0mac · 25/07/2024 20:47

Furniture Village. Not somewhere I'd ever have considered normally but it turned out they have a couple of Ercol suites which are lovely, and we got one of those. Some of their other stuff also looked good. Customer service was great, apart from getting extra fabric swatches - I ended up going to Ercol direct in the end.

Splcam · 25/07/2024 20:51

We are on our 4th sofa from DFS since 2008. Each one bought because we wanted a change and not because of any defects or problems. 2 of the sofas were given to friends and another one sold. DFS deliver when they say, are contactable and interest free credit is absolutely painless.

curlycurlymoo · 25/07/2024 21:14

Had a dfs sofa for 12 years. It was great until recently. Got another dfs sofa

Borborygmus · 25/07/2024 21:23

I'd avoid M&S.

MummyLongLegsss · 25/07/2024 22:09

Thanks all.

Unbelievably. we've had 2 sofas in 40 years of being married.

First one was Habitat, which I had recovered and the current one is a Laura Ashley. I've had new seat cushions and new loose covers fitted. I have a couple 'accent' chairs from J Lewis.

The seat cushions are sagging slightly and I just fancy updating to a newer style and colour scheme.

I can see lots I like online even from Dunelm but none where I can actually SIT on them!

There are loads of sofas online but very few showrooms stocking them all.
Or the ones I like.

I don't live out in the sticks- London is possible- but showrooms seem few and far between.

Yes I read that thread.

The Ercol showroom in Princes Risborough is worth a look if you are near there at all, lots to sit on and also lots of ex display for sale

Addalittlespice · 25/07/2024 23:18

Scs are awful. The seats went flat so fast and they basically said we should have paid the extra to upgrade and refused to do anything about it. Best sofa I’ve had is from a local furniture shop. It’s huge and so much cheaper than the big furniture brands.

We have a leather sofa from DFS bought in 2007….still looks good
we have another fabric DFS sofa bought in 2017 which looks brand new
we also have an ikea ektorp which is 23 years old and just bought a new cover for

kiterunning · 26/07/2024 08:32

Our dfs sofa is still looking great after 10 years and three children!

Brightredtulips · 26/07/2024 08:42

DFS sofa in our house now for almost 10 years. Had spent ages looking for one . Its brown leather, had put up with children, animals, red wine. Still comfy and looks good. I change my cushions for a new look. Would love fabric but with pets in the house I just wouldn't risk it.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 26/07/2024 08:59

In the past I've had habitat and M&S but my last few have been dfs and I've been thrilled with them. As others have said I only change them as I get easily bored. I currently have a patterdale and the French connection one. I've had leather, velvet and fabric and they are easy to scrub clean or even put in the machine as I've pets and young children.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 26/07/2024 11:48

Sorry to hijack, OP, but can I butt in to ask if anyone here has the DFS Livie or the Next Parker, Campbell or Lilly ll? Those are what I'm considering at the moment.
