Are corner sofas naff?

Ok - so I’d like a corner sofa, but struggling to find one I like that isn’t mega expensive.

however, there seems to be very limited options ( I don’t want the ones with the chaise longer stuck at the end).

however, am beginning to wonder why there aren’t that many- are they just a bit shit?

how comfortable are they?

I've always wanted one but lack a suitable corner as have a bay window ( we have a 3 seater and 2 seater instead and the latter fits nicely in the bay).

Ragwort · 15/05/2023 20:16

Personally I wouldn't want to all be sitting together ... but maybe I am just not very sociable Grin. There's only my DH & I at home most of the time and we like a sofa each or preferably sit in separate rooms I do think they look a bit naff in a small room.

foulplay · 15/05/2023 20:18

We have one, I love it because I can snuggle up to dh and dc on it. We also have a 3 seater sofa in the same room too, we are lucky to have lots of space. We all tend to opt to sit on the corner sofa though.

FawnFrenchieMum · 15/05/2023 20:37

We have one from SCS and love it, the corner seat is the most popular. I love that we can sit at opposite ends or we can cuddle up together in the corner but still have space to put our feet up etc.
We originally bought it in our old house that needed it to separate it from the open plan dining around but now have it in a large square living room and is fine in here too.
Were due a new one soonish and keep discussing if we will go for another corner or two sofas, but I don’t think my and DH would be able to cuddle and be comfy on a three seater so can’t see us going back.

imapterodactyl · 15/05/2023 20:45

I've had 3 and loved them all. One in a room where it was kind of used as separation in an open plan room. The second in quite a small room but it worked. So comfy and the corner was my favourite place for relaxing. The other was an ikea one that had different configurations so you could move it around and add/remove arms which also moved flat to make it a sofa bed. I miss that one!!

We can't fit one in our current front room due to doors and weird shaped walls and I'm gutted!

troppibambini6 · 15/05/2023 20:53

I love mine and it fits perfectly in my living room as it's an awkward shape.
My dog also blends in beautifully Smile

I have one so they must be naff. I wanted a U shaped sofa originally, lots of seating when people come round but lots of space so that we are not on top of each other when it's just us 4. We compromised on a big 5 seater corner and a 2 seater laid out in a U shape as I wanted recliners too.

troppibambini6 · 15/05/2023 21:02

Thank you it's from dfs, I also have a snuggle chair (sorry naff name!) it's basically a huge armchair.

I bought my corner sofa from Dfs. It is lovely and very pleased with it. Never thought we would go for a corner sofa but it fits our room perfectly. Love your sofa @troppibambini6 and your dog. 😍

FrangipaniBlue · 15/05/2023 21:11

Me, DH, DS(15) and dog all currently piled up on the corner sofa while the 3 seater on the other side of the room remains empty 😂

Pinkrubberduck · 15/05/2023 21:12

I have a cloud sundae from snug and it’s super comfy, especially the corner! It’s also easy to clean and stays nice and plump.
I don’t remember it being that expensive, and I like the fact I can remove a section if I need to buy a Christmas tree that’s too branchy for the room

troppibambini6 · 15/05/2023 21:14

Thanks @Anyoneforacreamtea he's in the bad books today as he's destroyed my olive tree in garden AngryWink

Paperlate · 15/05/2023 21:15

I love mine and I don't give a fuck if MN think they are naff.

Tootyfilou · 15/05/2023 21:17

I have a huge Loaf velvet corner sofa… its wonderful. So comfortable. The corner os the prized spot.

teabycandlelight · 14/05/2023 23:08

@PimpMyFridge looking at sofology now!

@ThereIsAnEchoInHere was that because it wasn’t comfy?

Agreed. You can't sit in the corner, and you can only sit in one of the places either side of the corner, unless you're happy knocking knees with someone else.

TheChosenTwo · 15/05/2023 21:17

I’d like one, my sister has one and the corner is the best bit, massive and so deep I can almost fit the whole length of my (quite long) legs diagonally on it - my feet just about drop off the corner!
Our front room isn’t the right shape or size for one. Maybe if we move…
We currently have 2 large sofas in there but actually we only really ever use the room during the colder months as we have a fire in there and it’s lovely and cosy. I think if we had the big corner sofa of dreams in there I’d be in there all the time just dozing 😂

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 15/05/2023 21:23

We have one. It was bought for our old house, where it fitted perfectly and looked lovely (large open plan living room diner). In our current house, it doesn't fit so well and because it has a curved corner section, there is annoying wasted space behind it. However, I'd love a different one with a squared off corner, and although I suspect they are quite naff, I do really like them.

Unless it's Roche Bobois, I guess.

Ha - we have a Roche Bobois one and it’s great EXCEPT for the point a PP makes. The corner spot is generally covered for semi-prone TB-watching, but there’s nowhere to put a drink down. It’s annoying. Still worth it for us, two- or three-seaters would take up too much space. But if someone knows how to deal with drinks I’m all ears!

ThereIsAnEchoInHere · 14/05/2023 22:50

The corner was a total waste.
No one ever actually sat in that bit so in reality it was a large piece of furniture taking up room where two sofas or a sofa and armchair gave more space.

We all love our corner bit. It's so deep and cosy, it's a win if you get there first

WoolyMammoth55 · 15/05/2023 21:28

We got ours from ebay but it's from Dwell, and there's a matching 2 seater - they are really comfy and look great, very hard-wearing fabric, not at all "quick sand" soft/saggy...

My 5yo DS refuses to sit on the 2 seater as "there's no where for his legs to go". Everyone fights over the corner! We had a regular sofa with an ottoman footrest in our last house and that was fine too but no one fought over it...

Let the snooty naff brigade live in their Insta-ready houses, for real life I think corner sofas are a good thing :)

You deal with drinks using a sofa table! We have an ENORMOUS purple velvet corner sofa and use this table from John Lewis: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-calia-sofa-side-table/p1151372

Tisfortired · 15/05/2023 21:31

We have one, we have quite a big lounge so a corner and an armchair was the best fit for us. It’s not naff (I was very picky!) it’s plain navy in that velvetty material - it was £1200 from DFS avoid 4 years ago.) We have a chaise lounge one, which comes in extremely handy for naps 😉

We have a variation of this - also has washable covers

beeskipa · 15/05/2023 21:34

We have one because it's the best fit in our weird living room (and I always get the corner, thanks DH). Get a big pouffe thing that matches, that's my top tip. Then two of you can lounge facing the same direction (i.e. the TV haha).
