Need a new bed but not sure who are "good" anymore

We are LONG overdue a new bed (by at least 15 years!). We paid what was then quite a large amount to Iron Bed Company for a Super King - in late 90s! - it has been an amazing bed but obviously has more than seen better days. I know F&B are now the IBC but wonder what other suppliers are around and who you would recommend. Looking for a king size and not even sure whether we'd go frame and mattress or divan at this stage. Any advice or recommendations for companies would be really helpful. We are not looking to take so long to replace this time - so something that would last 5-10 years would be great! As a ballpark would like to keep it under 2K this time (including mattress).

After spending a fortune last time, we got a great mattress from Ikea.

We've just got a sleepeze mattress which was about 1200 and then bought an ottoman bedframe from Aspire. Really happy with them both and they came in at under 2k.

My Dreams bed is amazing. But it was a nightmare trying to actually get it delivered. So on that basis, I can't recommend them.

Thank you all

Honestly, IKEA.

John Ryan for the mattress

Beds what sort of style. Lots of options around. I would spend more on the mattress than the bed tbh.

Go out and look. Try them in real life. We just bought ds a double bed from Bensons, and they were great! Lovely bed, delivery and putting together no problem, etc. I'd recommend them.

Check out Warren Evans. Impeccable service and I am 100% happy with the product. Have had the bed base for 18 months now and no complaints. I already had the mattress. Would not think twice to use them again.

What is your budget?

I got my bed, around 7 years ago, from Revival Beds. Lots to choose from. They assemble it in your home, which was handy for me due to old cottage/tight staircase problems.

I still love my bed, definitely worth the money spent.

I also bought a bed from the Iron Bed Co in the 90’s! I replaced it recently with a bed from Feather and Black . It looks nice but is too heavy to move at all ( assembled in place) and the base isn’t sprung so it’s rock hard. It is an Ottoman. Bed as we need the storage. The mattress is from Dreams but far too hard. I tried out the mattress in the shop and it seemed great! Bought the bed online unseen . I would always go for a sprung base and or sprung slats . I wish we had bought a similar bed to the one we had before. A cast iron bed doesn’t need dusting or hoovering ( the bed we have now has a velvet headboard and surround).
The only mattress we’ve had which I have liked was cashmere wool and silk.
Massive regrets here. Buying a bed and mattress is so important , you have to get it right.

I've just bought one from Benson's for beds, we got our last bed from there, only bought a new one because we wanted to go superking size.
£1200 with a divan base with two drawers.
They have a vast range in Benson's.

Thanks all - IBC must have been the thing in the 1990s! Will check out other suggestions and go out and try a few beds.

I recently got a wooden bed from Anthropologie. It’s absolutely beautiful and super robust BUT the ‘king size’ measurements are a couple of inches bigger than actual king size so there’s an annoying gap between the mattress and the frame. You can see slats (though it’s not an issue when made with a duvet) and it really annoys me.

So maybe not from there!

I've just bought a Premier Inn bed - they do retail! Couldn't be more pleased. Tempur bed topper included, wonderfully medium firm mattress and choice of box spring bottom. You can get delivery and removal of old mattress for under £2k

Do you have a link? Just tried tempur and tempur topper in Dreams!

Absolutely delighted with my new superking ottoman from DUSK. Super fast delivery too. I went with an Emma mattress I know some people don't get on with them but it's perfect for me it's my favourite place now.

Is the base spring out of interest?

MonsoonMadness · 23/01/2023 16:54

Sprung

takingtwostepsatatime · 01/02/2023 16:35

Recently bought this, which looks amazing! The delivery guys even assembled it when I asked, which was very kind.

Also found out after they do a matching blanket box so I'm ordering that now.

MotherOfHouseplants · 01/02/2023 17:25

Is there actually anything wrong with the frame or do you just fancy a change? Iron bed frames can and do last a lot longer than thirty years and if it is in reasonably good nick you could put your budget towards a really good mattress.

AchillesLastStand · 03/02/2023 18:52

Do you have any local bed shops? You will get much better value than with large chains and because they are smaller they will care about you as a customer.

Tumbleweed101 · 07/02/2023 19:33

I got a comfy sprung bed from Dreams.

LadyEloise1 · 08/02/2023 19:48

Do check whether the mattress is rotate only / no turn or can be turned upside down.
I always turn the mattresses in our house upside down every time when changing the sheets and insist the dc do it too. It extends the life of the mattress.
Sadly we didn't. Already there's a dip in the mattress after just a couple of months.
I think manufacturers push the no turn mattresses.
It means you'll need to buy a new mattress sooner. Sad
