Patterned carpet - am I mad?

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to replace my hall, stairs and landing carpet. I’d like something hard wearing and forgiving, such as an axminster. I’ve seen a patterned carpet called Brintons Timorous Beasties Collection Noir Ruskin Butterfly. Am I crazy getting a patterned carpet? It looks like a ‘modern’ take on a patterned carpet.

What are your thoughts? Does it look too old fashioned?

OMG. Who knew?!!

YukoandHiro · 16/01/2023 12:13

We just got stripes and I love them however I do slightly wish I'd gone for a runner instead of full width. Hey ho!

Add pic fail!

I think stripes have had their moment, so not that. I actually love the pattern. Maybe patterned carpet will make a comeback? - most things are cyclical.

DadANDPK · 16/01/2023 12:15

It would drive me insane! I'd keep going to pick bits up!!

but how could you possibly be unreasonable to have something you like in your house?

louise5754 · 16/01/2023 12:17

It reminds me of a b&b in the 80s.

Dahliasrule · 16/01/2023 12:22

I like it and I think perhaps this type of carpet could become fashionable. It is not like your old fashioned all over floral patterned carpet. It is floral with a twist. The random pattern will also distract from any buts on the black.

Craghopper1 · 16/01/2023 12:26

Yes you are mad. Ugly as sin. Looks like a cheap pub carpet. And I'm not averse to a pattern, it's the colours that I find problematic.

Davros · 16/01/2023 12:40

I love it and I love Timourous Beasties anyway. Look at Iris Apfel although she may only design rugs (Ruggable)

TellMeWhere · 16/01/2023 12:47

I have a fondness for the monstrously patterned carpets of yesteryear. I also love a pink bathroom suite. If done right, all these retro things look fantastic (in my opinion).

I don't like that one though. It's very dark and and does look somewhat like someone's shit themselves on your stairs.

So, yes to patterned, but no to that one.

amprev · 16/01/2023 12:49

I love it, if anything I would say the pattern could do with being a bit bolder. You've made me think now, because I'll be choosing new bedroom carpet soon and am now quite keen to jump on the return of patterned carpet bandwagon. As previous posters have said, stripes have had their day and belong in the same category of completely grey houses. I'm also a fan of tartan carpets though?!

Kitsmummy · 16/01/2023 12:56

Timorous Beasties stuff is normally very cool, but that is hideous

evemillbank · 16/01/2023 14:28

Reminds me of a pub floor

Suzi888 · 16/01/2023 14:35

Not for me. From a practice so side you’ll be forever vacuuming!

KirstenBlest · 16/01/2023 15:18

I think people either love or hate stripes. I'd go for a light to medium fleck, but my stairs are painted with no carpet

MichaelAndEagle · 16/01/2023 17:55

I love it but couldn't afford it, otherwise I'd have it. Patterned carpets are so hard to find.
I like the yellow version they have too.

Lovemydoggiesomuch · 15/01/2023 23:44

Why are stripes 2010 specifically 🤔

Cos that’s when me and half my friends started getting them 😂

missbunnyrabbit · 16/01/2023 18:34

I love it. I think patterned carpets are due a come back. Don't get stripes, they look awful.

ElasticFirecracker · 16/01/2023 18:37

SlaveToTheVibe · 15/01/2023 23:41

NOT STRIPES

they’re so 2010

I tried really hard to get a patterned carpet boy gave up. Either naff or stripes.

So sick of stripes, and general lack of flooring choices.

Cotswoldmama · 16/01/2023 18:41

I'm not that keen, it makes a statement but I feel like it looks dated. I like patterned carpets if it's more like a continuous geometric type pattern.

RedRiverShore3 · 16/01/2023 18:53

I am going to get one of those Timorous Beasties ones but cant decide which one, I have got all my samples so I like it

RedRiverShore3 · 16/01/2023 19:00

My house is a bit dated like me though with quite a bit of William Morris throughout and it will just blend in, I'm veering towards the yellow so maybe me saying it's lovely and I am getting it is perhaps not a good recommendation if your house is tasteful and modern

Davros · 16/01/2023 19:29

Ooh, William Morris, Timourous Beasties, Iris Apfel, Fornasetti, Liberty. Heaven!

BeenPurple · 16/01/2023 19:34

Meh I don’t like it but who cares! You are doing your hailer for you to live in not to sell so go for it if you love it

ReindeerBelieve · 16/01/2023 20:49

I'm not a fan , also think it would show everything being so dark

I'm intrigued as to the yellow version people are mentioning ?

At the end of the day if you love it go for it - I probably would do as a runner rather than full stairs.
