Patterned carpet - am I mad?

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to replace my hall, stairs and landing carpet. I’d like something hard wearing and forgiving, such as an axminster. I’ve seen a patterned carpet called Brintons Timorous Beasties Collection Noir Ruskin Butterfly. Am I crazy getting a patterned carpet? It looks like a ‘modern’ take on a patterned carpet.

What are your thoughts? Does it look too old fashioned?

Ooh, William Morris, Timourous Beasties, Iris Apfel, Fornasetti, Liberty. Heaven!

This ^

Are you me?!? I love all the above and love the Timorous Beasties carpet posted by @Scampi13 although I probably wouldn't go for black personally.

We don't currently have a stair carpet, but in a previous house (in 2012/13) we fitted a fabulous striped Roger Oates flatweave runner and - if we get round to fitting a stair carpet here - will probably go for one of those again. I don't think that type of striped stair carpet is dated at all.

I love a patterned carpet! So so bored of beige and grey everywhere.
But I think you need to be fairly uncluttered and not 'busy'' in your decor to allow the carpet to shine.

tootiredtodrinkgin · 17/01/2023 00:34

I love it op! If you love it get it!

I also agree that stripes are now very dated. Don't get stripes!

LibertyLily love the name. My favourite shop

It's totally not to my taste, but that doesn't matter. If you like it, buy it. If you're asking because you're selling, I would rip it out as soon as I moved in.

Patterned carpets, however, I'm a fan. Stripes are boring and overdobe, but i like the pattern to be simple and repeating

RedRiverShore3 · 17/01/2023 10:28

I doubt anyone would put that carpet in if they were selling anytime soon, it's about £100 a metre. I would get it OP as every time you walk up the stairs you will smile

What you have omitted to tell us, @Scampi13 , is if your house is a shoe on or shoe off house.

If you are a shoes off house then get it.

EezyOozy · 17/01/2023 10:33

Sorry, I think it’s really tacky!

BestIsWest · 17/01/2023 10:44

I really like it and like the yellow too. We have a cream and grey patterned Brinton carpet on our stairs and landing and it’s been brilliant.
I wish patterned carpets would come back too. We have a plain carpet in our sitting room, it’s been down a year and I hate it. It shows every mark.

Stevie6 · 17/01/2023 10:52

I love it, so sick of all the identical houses, your house should reflect your personalities

justasking111 · 17/01/2023 10:55

We have a sort of two tone pattern carpet in the sitting room because of dogs and grandchildren. It still shows the bits. Ditto plain pale stair carpet. But we have dogs

minipie · 17/01/2023 10:56

It’s not my taste. I think it could look good if the rest of your decor goes with it, ie dark and moody and maximalist. Also probably best in a period house. I don’t think it goes at all with the modern oak banister and white walls in the pictures.

WandaWonder · 17/01/2023 10:58

I could not see clearly but looks like photos I have seen on crime TV series/movies

I do like patterned carpet, well some

If your other flooring is very neutral and the rest of your furnishings are new and tasteful, it might work but I am not really a fan but your house/your stairs.

We bought a patterned stair carpet many years ago it pale greens (but looks neutral colours due to the light) to replace a lovely worn and damaged neutral berber carpet. Thought I would be different and get ahead of the curve. I loved it at first but hate it now and have done for quite awhile but stuck living with it for a goodly while longer.

I think stripes have now had their day but wished we had opted for stripes or tartan instead of ours.
