Help! Ways to improve green sofa!

Just received a forest green sofa and hate it! I’m not keen on the seat cushions as they look overstuffed but hopefully that will improve with time.
Unfortunately the colour is the issue it’s much duller / flat than the swatch suggested. Any suggestions of colours to paint the wall behind (or wallpapers) that might “lift” the sofa colour?
Tried yellow cushions and it still looks rubbish
Can’t return as they want £300 for collection

Yw, I also love the combination of yellow and navy cushions - great balance.the pps suggestion above of a navy wall is great.

I can't picture a biscuity-shade but it sounds like it could also work well, especially if you keep enough dark accessories like the navy cushions. They and the footstool really tie it all together - you've got a good eye.

Update your Xmas decs with some jewel tones and will look amazing at Christmas!

@Mooloolabababy is it the charcoal plain? I agree, it does have a blue tint off it.

I had actually ordered a three seater, an armchair and footstool in mushroom velvet - to match my pink plain cuddler - but I got cold feet and cancelled my order. I actually think the charcoal might be nicer. Do you have any pics? I can only find pictures of the velvet charcoal on instagram.

Sorry to hijack @greensofawoes !

Imagine how many lovely cushions you could get for the £300 return fee! Do a search on Instagram for patterdale and a few nicely styled pictures of your green sofa come up

Depends on how you want the room to feel. We have a similar colour combo in our house and it's hard to pull together with a dark wall. I'd go for a light colour with a hint of yellow (doesn't need to be magnolia!) then you can have the blue/green/yellow/gold colours.

Meant to say, the dark wall and dark sofa can be a bit overpowering and feel quite dark. I love it but it's very much not to everyone's taste!

Mooloolabababy · 06/11/2022 18:33

@JiggingJigsaws yes the charcoal is plain, here a photo of one of my sofas when I first had it delivered, the cushions I had then did have pink in them and they go quite nicely with the charcoal I think.

agree how comfy the sofas are, I've sat on it loads today and I might have to keep it even if I don't like the colour because it's so comfy

Hi guys, thanks again for your help yesterday i really appreciated it.

Based on all your advice I spent a bit of time this morning redoing the cushions and borrowing bits from other parts of the house (until I decide what I’m keeping). I think it looks a bit better and I’m more inclined to keep the sofa now.

@FurAndFeathers I know you said the yellow cushions don’t work, I’m not great with colours so any reason why? I assumed as there is dark green in them it would be fine.

I still need to pick a wall colour. If I keep the cushions would I be mad to use a blue on the wall similar to the butterfly or bird?

That mustard yellow just clashes with the green. I think a softer lemon yellow would work but I still think a hot pink/cerise or coral would be better

dudsville · 06/11/2022 20:53

In your first pic I'd have said the problem isn't the sofa, the room needs some love. The second pic is much better, but i agree that yellow and green can be a hard combo to pull off. It's loads better (and looks more loved!) but it is still a tough combo. With the pink, the idea is to inject warmth, so think of a warm pale rose, sunsets on the edge of a forest. And the green is really very popular and you can do a lot with foliage to bring it all together a bit more so that it's got just one green thing in the room.

JiggingJigsaws · 06/11/2022 22:14

@Mooloolabababy it's lovely, thanks for posting :)

Mooloolabababy · 06/11/2022 22:45

No worries @JiggingJigsaws they really are lovely sofas, very comfy and deep so you can really snuggle up on them!

woohoowoohoo · 07/11/2022 07:00

Dark walls can be hard to live with even though they look great on insta! Have a look at lick pink 01, I'm about to paint my room in it.

EstellaRijnveld · 07/11/2022 07:28

I'd go for an antique gold wall to lift the sofa and make the roof richer without being overwhelming. Dark walls tend to over take the room and everything else gets lost in it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/11/2022 08:38

I'm thinking teal walls, a bit darker than the bird in the cushions.

LeMoo · 07/11/2022 09:07

Op - if you want a dark blue wall but it's too overpowering in the room then there are a couple of options.

You could look at a large piece of art or a wall hanging in the desired colour to dominate the wall above the sofa. Also make sure accessories around the room favour the blue you want.

You don't have to have a dark paint. You could choose a lighter or more muted shade of blue and it would still work to pull everything together. It can even be very pale, just make sure it's within the same tone family as the navy on the cushions.

courgettigreensadwater · 07/11/2022 09:12

Agree with @blackberrybat. Green and dusky pink is a great combo.
