Help! Ways to improve green sofa!

Just received a forest green sofa and hate it! I’m not keen on the seat cushions as they look overstuffed but hopefully that will improve with time.
Unfortunately the colour is the issue it’s much duller / flat than the swatch suggested. Any suggestions of colours to paint the wall behind (or wallpapers) that might “lift” the sofa colour?
Tried yellow cushions and it still looks rubbish
Can’t return as they want £300 for collection

Lots of rich cushions in jewel colours and a throw.
Something of interest on the wall behind.

Oh wow thanks for all the replies @

What’s your wallpaper budget? Because this…

and dark wood furniture and some sort of vintage Persian-type rug.

Sorry pressed post too soon
@Pieceofpurplesky I love that wallpaper
@Kindofcrunchy it's dfs patterdale and it has lots of options

I will try putting the cushions on better (I would never make an instagrammer!).
I like the pinky plum ideas but not sure my husband would be convinced. The Pinterest links are great it's given me lots to think about and hopefully if I can do it well it will look much nicer.

The wall is due to be decorated next week so I'd better try to choose quickly 😀

I had wondered about a dark blue but think that would make it even duller

@greensofawoes it's from The Range. My parents have similar. They have cushions like this

I like your idea of the dark blue, would be really cosy! With some art as well.

OP, I had a similar issue with DFS. Purchased a navy sofa online (online exclusive sofa) and the sofa that arrived was a bright electric blue. I was fairly persistant and they eventually allowed me to return it at a discounted price maybe around £60-80 which was good enough for me as I really hated it. So if you are really unhappy and bought online I'd try outlining that it isn't as described etc and they might give in

greensofawoes · 05/11/2022 15:04

@Pieceofpurplesky
Wow would never have thought to look at the range. The cushions are great too.
Lost to think about, seems to be the lovely wallpapers or pink /plum / paprika paint or maybe blue

Hi guys, thanks again for your help yesterday i really appreciated it.

Based on all your advice I spent a bit of time this morning redoing the cushions and borrowing bits from other parts of the house (until I decide what I’m keeping). I think it looks a bit better and I’m more inclined to keep the sofa now.

@FurAndFeathers I know you said the yellow cushions don’t work, I’m not great with colours so any reason why? I assumed as there is dark green in them it would be fine.

I still need to pick a wall colour. If I keep the cushions would I be mad to use a blue on the wall similar to the butterfly or bird?

Alternatively can anyone help me if one of the following would work? Alas I don’t have time for samples so winging it 😅
I've also decide I might be a bit colour blind 😀

That looks brilliant @greensofawoes , what a difference!

I'm not sure about the pink in your last post, think it's the wrong shade. The green is too similar to the sofa but the blue would work.

bellac11 · 06/11/2022 13:41

A dark yellow mustard wall behind the sofa, warm the whole room up. The sofa is quite nice for a corner sofa but the room needs sprucing and warming up

TheOGCCL · 06/11/2022 13:44

Navy blue wall (or two or all) plus some botanical wallpaper and the sofa would look great. Those cushions are making things worse.

LeMoo · 06/11/2022 13:46

I like the cushions I think they look great

greensofawoes · 06/11/2022 13:50

Thanks @LeMoo I'm also tempted by your shelf suggestion at some point.
Will continue looking at paint options. It really seems the cushions divide opinion!

The problem is not the sofa but the lack of cushions and relatively bare room. You also need to make sure the back cushions are sitting right.

I've a patterdale cuddler in pink and it's insanely comfy so it's worth working on the styling to get it right

bellac11 · 06/11/2022 13:52

It looks much better OP, the throw on the back could be a warmer colour and you can get a similar footstool in Ikea in a deep mustard colour, we have one

JiggingJigsaws · 06/11/2022 13:53

Just saw your update- the difference is massive! I'd lose the navy cushions and get more of the yellow ones though

flingingmelon · 06/11/2022 13:56

Love the blue. I have a blue room and it's upper cosy in winter. Love the yellow cushions

JiggingJigsaws · 06/11/2022 13:57

I don't think any of those colours linked would go with green and yellow. The pink would work if you chose different cushions.

Try skimming stone by farrow and ball, I think you need a neutral colour

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 06/11/2022 14:01

You need jewel colours...dark sapphire blue, copper, rose gold, dark amythest, Ruby red.

Try different shapes of cushions like bolster, round, large square all together can look really good

Yes so would I, I think the yellow cushions really lift it and I like the pattern on them.

I think I'd try to incorporate more of the yellow colour of those cushions.

JaninaDuszejko · 06/11/2022 14:30

It looks much better in the second photo. Agree a shelf and lamp behind would be good and then either a big piece of art or a gallery wall above the sofa.

As far as cushion I agree with the PP who said different shapes and sizes and textures look best. Wih the navy and yellow cushions you currently have I'd paint the walk either navy or a lighter green than the sofa. Or posibly a biscuity shade (I have a pathological hatred of yellow so that's as yellow as I could cope with, your birdy cushions are lovely though).

Mooloolabababy · 06/11/2022 14:45

Is that the Joules Patterdale sofa from DFS op?
We have this in a 2 and a 3 seater in charcoal.
The colour looked totally different on the swatch and online when we bought it too, It's a lot more blue than grey!
Anyway, firstly, the cushions definitely flatten down over time so that they don't look overstuffed anymore and secondly, they've got to the the comfiest sofas I've ever had so give it time and I bet you'll love it!
