Painting sitting room - is dark blue still a good bet?

My home is far from fashionable, but I'd still prefer to use colours that are up to date... Pinterest is full of dark blue painted rooms and they do look lovely. But are there are any other colours I should consider, will blue stay on trend for at least a year or two?
Thanks!

It might deter future buyers as it will take several coats to get rid of it, OP. And a totally dark painted room can be
a) depressing in winter and
b) make the room look much smaller than it actually is.

Fucking love my rediculously dark navy blue living room. Who cares if it dates, if I think that I’ll change. But I love it. Hate grey/silver/shiny. Everyone comments on how bold it is. Hate rooms with a hint of colour, gone all out. Its so cosy and works well with the light, looked terrible when it was light.

This kind of colour, for clarity.

I think that looks very dated.

I’m a proponent of just decorate how you like. But then I’m big on dark and jewel colours and my whole house is painted like that.

I have F&B Inchyra blue. Love it. Everything you own looks better against a dark shade.
forget what sells houses, have what you love.

Dont tell me that, @RichardsGear Grin

Well this is what I wanted to check - but I'm only listening if you also suggest a colour that would not be dated, don't leave me floundering!

Just not the Dulux colour of the year 2023, it looks like the colour of vomit!

We had an extension to the back of our home and painted the walls dark blue. Feels like an expensive hotel, very cosy and we adore it. Go for it!

I'd love an expensive hotel feel - even a Premier Inn one would be good! Grin

If you do go for a dark colour please consider painting the woodwork the same colour. Emulsion for walls, eggshell for woodwork. As @HopelesslyOptimistic said too. I always do that now and love how it looks and feels.

Notmenottodaynotever · 23/10/2022 15:55

I haven't come across that, @Belindabelle but I will certainly look up some pictures

Yes it does look good to paint woodwork too but DH resists. 🙄
