What colour is your hallway?

We still have the off white hall we inherited with this house many years ago and have finally booked a decorator. It runs over three floors so will be quite dominating throughout the house whatever we go for. Would appreciate any inspiration! For context it's a 60s house and we will then be replacing the hall carpet too.

Very small hallway in Oval Room Blue, with white paintwork and plain pine doors, which looks amazing when sun spills through in the afternoon.

One thing to bear in mind is that it can be very satisfying looking from the hall into the adjoining rooms. So, blue hall into the (bottom) half Sudbury Yellow (top) half Wimborne White in my daughter's room. Then blue hall into unknown very light pinkish mushroom in the living room. The bathroom will be Pink Ground, and I love pink and blue. I guess what I"m saying is that halls can bring all the other colours together

A lovely sunny yellow. No idea it was such a popular colour.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 13/09/2022 18:25

Just decorated my hall stairs and landing last week it's pale grey with white gloss

blueshoes · 13/09/2022 18:30

Wood panelling. Original feature.

tootrueblue · 13/09/2022 18:32

Our hall, stairs and landing are painted in F&B Skimming Stone. Gentle, warm and goes with any carpet/accessories colours

ReeseWitherfork · 13/09/2022 18:56

Also yellow but not mustard because I thought they all looked like baby poo. Bright yellow here. Craig and Rose Lamplighter.

SollaSollew · 13/09/2022 19:28

Mine is currently a light line green with a red carpet which is just as tasteful as it sounds. But I've just had some panelling done then will be painted Atelier Ellis Warm White, we have grey carpet through all of the upstairs and will be on the landing and stairs which limited our choices a little just like you OP. I have a lot of pictures to go up in black frames so it will be a gentleish monochrome within a few weeks I hope. It's the last internal bit in a full house refurbishment so will be glad to be done.

Rather than picking a random colour think a bit more about your hallway. How many windows do you have in your hallway and what direction do they face? How big is your hallway and what shape? How many doors lead off it on each floor? What lighting will you have in the hall (wall or ceiling lights)? What colours are the rooms that lead off the hallway? How many floors are in your hallway and do you want the same colour the whole way up? Are you planning on having any art on the walls? Are you more of a maximalist or minimalist? Are you planning on painting all the woodwork and walls the same colour or do you want tonal colours or contrasting colours? What colour is the flooring and stairs? Who uses the room?

So, e.g. I have a generously sized hallway over 3 floors with large south facing windows on each floor and original painted panelling on the ground floor. It is a lovely bright room. We have had roman blinds made from Marimekko fabric and a gallery wall going up the wall with the windows, there's a large mirror hanging opposite the windows. It is currently the previous owner's choice of colour scheme except for my blinds. We're going to paint the walls and woodwork white, have a patterned runner up the stairs (love alternative flooring carpets) and put period appropriate tiling on the floor (house is 1920s art deco so something geometric). So simple bones with colour added in soft furnishings and artwork.

What colour is your hallway?
DelphiniumBlue · 14/09/2022 00:00

Mine is joyful daffodil yellow! White woodwork and a beige/ ish carpet.

Cazziebo · 15/09/2022 14:43

Howmanysleepsnow · 13/09/2022 07:08

@Cazziebo that colour looks perfect! Though my hall is pretty dark…. How does it look in low light? All the online pictures I can find are in quite bright rooo.

It's really warm and cosy! I did have reservations as it's not a large space but it's worked out so well. I think because it's so bold it makes the hallway look much more significant. It's a stunning colour.

Crown Sail White on walls and ceilings, Oyster on skirting boards, doors and picture rail. Lots of pictures for colour and reflection. Floors are oak boards. Stair banister and spindles in Mylands Sinner. Inside front door is Mylands French Green, which picks up the stained glass well without dominating it. It doesn't get loads of light, and we went white because the previous owners had porridge coloured carpet and porridge coloured walls and it was just too gloomy for words. We like colour and have lots of it in the house but white is very practical as well for a hallway and stairs - easy to scrub/paint over marks.

Have you got one of those open-tread staircases. in your sixties house, OP?

Pure white

LosttheremoteAGAIN · 15/09/2022 15:52

We painted our lounge in demin drift and our hall was grubby cream
i painted it sage by johnstones and it ‘pulled’ it together-it really popped when we glossed the woodwork white
we got some navy peacock lightshades by notonthehighstreet and it looks amazing

TattiePants · 15/09/2022 16:07

From the dado down it's F&B Railings then All White above with lots of pictures.

MsFizz · 15/09/2022 16:10

If you're not too afraid of bold colours then a good design trick is to paint the hallway a dark colour (eg dark navy) and then paint the rooms off the hallway a contrasting light colour - it enhances the lightness and airy feel of the rooms themselves

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/09/2022 16:15

False masonry, terracotta’plaster’

but my previous hall was yellow!

What colour is your hallway?
CandyLips · 15/09/2022 16:19

Laura Ashley Pale Dove Grey

Shodan · 15/09/2022 16:20

Also yellow here but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. Deffo Dulux. It's a pale warm yellow.

SageRosemary · 15/09/2022 16:37

Northfacing hall here. Deluxe Sunset is a pale creamy yellow that works well with oatmeal stairs carpet, dark oak hall flooring and pale oak doors and mirror etc.

embolass · 15/09/2022 16:44

Egyptian cotton lovely neutral and matches everything

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 15/09/2022 16:46

Sage green and white, with a grey striped carpet (with the stripes running down the stairs). It's a massive improvement on the yellow we painted over!

greenmoney · 15/09/2022 17:56

Egyptian cotton here but looking to change

Don'tknowwhichnametopick · 15/09/2022 18:22

Chic Shadow, it's a perfect grey, not dark, not dirty white.

aliceinshackles · 15/09/2022 18:33

Sunflower yellow.
It's actually going to be re plastered soon.
And will be going back to yellow with red carpet up the stairs and landing and wood floor in my 1 meter hall way.
