Creative ideas needed to disguise a row of wall mounted sockets

I’ve just moved to a new flat. It’s rented but I can put stuff up on walls. Has anyone any ideas how to disguise this row of sockets? My sofa is opposite so most people would put the tv there but I watch/listen to everything on my iPad. It seems too low for a shelf. Other than buying a sideboard (which seems a waste as I don’t need one) how could I disguise or cover them up?

Big tall mirror propped up?

MsDirection · 21/06/2022 20:59

BruceAndNosh. In theory that's a great idea which I'd not thought of.
In practice I'd be looking at myself in it whenever I sit on the sofa.

would a big picture propped up look silly do you think? As if I'd not got round to putting it on the wall yet?

Narrow table/ sideboard

whereamu · 21/06/2022 21:07

Could get a built in one?

Other than buying a sideboard
What about a shoe rack/cupboard instead of a sideboard?

mdinbc · 21/06/2022 21:33

I agree with sideboard or entry table. If it has a shelf near the height of the sockets, even better.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think it’s going to need some sort of sideboard/unit. I like that table thing mdinbc. I’d have to hang plants of it to hide the sockets still though.

I’d just put a big plant inn a big pot.

Basilbrushgotfat · 21/06/2022 21:57

More plants?

Although I'm a bit disappointed. I was scrolling down active and thought you wanted to hide wall mounted socks!

MsDirection · 21/06/2022 23:12

I will look at huge plants /pots . That’s definitely an idea. I was also wondering if a radiator cover could work?

I'd put a low chunky table there and put the plant on it

RevolutionaryBiscuitsOfItaly · 21/06/2022 23:18

Low bench or small ottoman for extra seating/storage?

Remember not to drill into the wall above the sockets as its likely the electric cables travel down the wall from the ceiling to where the sockets are!

titchy · 21/06/2022 23:22

Tub chair and small table? Console table with plant and lamps? Wine rack? Large wicker basket?

MsDirection · 22/06/2022 06:11

A chair or ottoman would be a good idea as extra seating could be justified more than some sort of cabinet. I’m also very short of storage. Thanks for the ‘don’t drill’ warning whatisheupto . That’s a very good point.

Depending on how long you’ll be there/willing to spend you can get pretty socket covers. Try Katy Paty or Dowsing and Reynolds.

Although I like the plants idea!

MsDirection · 22/06/2022 06:52

Friday. Thanks I’ll take a look. I didn’t know such things existed.

These are great I have some and you can get either canvas cubes or rattan baskets to go in them which would hide the sockets but also give you some extra storage

timestheyarechanging · 22/06/2022 10:03

Agree with pp - few large plants in big pots will cover them and look lovely

Flamingoose · 22/06/2022 10:10

I love paintings and pictures propped against the wall in an artsy way.

minipie · 22/06/2022 11:37

If you are very short of storage then surely the obvious answer is some sort of storage unit! Sideboard, chest of drawers, cube unit with baskets in, shelf unit (put books on the lowest shelf to hide the sockets).
