Do you have a sofa in your kitchen/diner/family room?

We move into our new house next week. We have a separate living room as well as a kitchen/diner/family room. Wondering if you have a sofa in yours what sort did you get?? We haven't had a sofa in kitchen before - is leather better so it's wipe clean or is material fine? We will be having a navy and white kitchen so any suggestions or pics of how your kitchen/diner/family room looks with sofas in would be appreciated.

Yes, we have a fabulous ikea ektorp sofa in ours, it has removable and washable covers, so no problems with it getting dirty. Don't get leather, unless its a real antique Chesterfield, as they are just revolting.

Shellingbynight · 21/05/2022 20:42

We've got a small sofa with removable covers, we also have a throw over it. It's been in the room for 7 years and is no worse for wear.

We have a pale blue leather sofa in our kitchen. It has worn really well but is now past its sell by date.

Lavenderlast · 21/05/2022 22:14

We love our kitchen sofa! Can put feet up while watching pots boil :)

Ours is from Ikea and we are delighted with it.

I don’t like sofas in kitchen/dining areas. Instead we have a glass fronted cabinet for table top board games and a book shelf.

Judgy or what!

OP, we have a leather sofa - not a chesterfield - in our kitchen / family room. We love it!

We do, we have an open living/dining/kitchen with a sofa ( and separate front room). The kitchen sofa is the one we use most - it's aquaclean fabric from John lewis so really easy to keep clean

Aria20 · 22/05/2022 09:16

Thanks for the replies. We've spent a lot on new sofas for the living room so I'll check out ikea for possible ideas for the kitchen that are a bit cheaper and washable.

I have a fabric sofa, it was bought on a whim, in an online half price deal.
It's been fine.

Revolting, meaning disgusting or causing intense disgust?

What a weird (and unkind) thing to say!

Newnormal99 · 22/05/2022 09:32

I have 2! They from habitat dark grey and very plain sofas. Hyde range.

Since I have redone the room I spend more time in there than living room.

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/05/2022 09:32

We have dogs so we bought a second hand sofa off eBay and covered it with Ikea throws it's perfect.
It is fabric, but removable covers so everything gets a wash regularly.

celestebellman · 22/05/2022 09:36

We have a real antique chesterfield in our kitchen/ diner - do I get brownie points? 😂 Though actually the cushions were very much worse for wear so I have had to get covers for them which possibly lowers the tone.
I thin leather in general is probably good though, as wipeable. And I do like the Chesterfield shape.

statetrooperstacey · 22/05/2022 09:45

We have 2 fabric sofas, they get dirty but clean up pretty well . I’ve discovered dr beckams fabric cleaner which is brilliant. I also vacuum them regularly and use throws .( 4 pets) .

Next possibly controversial question...those of you with sofas in the kitchen/diner/family room - do you have a tv in there too? And if so is it on a sideboard or wall mounted?

We do have a tv next to our kitchen sofa - it's wall mounted and we bought a Samsung The Frame tv. You can style it with a gallery wall of photos/pictures and it blends in really well so it doesn't immediately look like a big ugly tv on the wall!

mumonthehill · 22/05/2022 10:14

We have a bright yellow fabric sofa, 2 chairs both from ikea with washable covers. I wish the sofa also had removable covers but I fell in love with the colour! We do not have a tv in there as I did not want one and it is a space to be away from the tv if we want to. The teenagers use it more than we do to relax and hangout!

Dinoteeth · 22/05/2022 10:22

Ours sits on a sideboard.
I'm not a big fan of screwing things on to walls, incase you want to move it later.

DockOTheBay · 22/05/2022 10:32

We don't have a sofa but we have a couple of ikea poang chairs in the family room area. They're more useful than as sofa as can be moved around or move into the living room for extra seating if we have people round, or even into the garden if the weather is nice.

DockOTheBay · 22/05/2022 10:33

Oh and no TV here

Glorieta · 22/05/2022 10:36

Had a sofa but it took up too much room so replaced with very comfortable ancient ikea chair and tv on sideboard (my cosy little den)

WhatsHoppening · 22/05/2022 10:37

We have two in ours! We have a kitchen with table in the middle then open to a sitting/play area. Wall mounted tv and all the kids toys etc then a separate grown up lounge. We have two second hand old fabric sofas which have seen better days but look fine with cushions and throws. Until the kids are older (5 and 2 currently) we don’t want anything precious! I love it we moved for this family space and it’s changed our lives enjoy the house!

tortoiseshellbuttons · 22/05/2022 10:39

Velvet sofa in the kitchen here. It is great, gets a quick vacuum in the mornings if the cats have slept on it.

My TV is opposite it but on the top of the kitchen cupboards out of the way - probably 12 ft away - only use it for the news.

cleareyesfulhearts · 22/05/2022 10:43

I have a big ugly tv on the wall and love it, have fabric settees.

Orangecushionsleep · 22/05/2022 10:44

Two sofas and a tv screwed to the wall - we rarely use the living room. We have ikea sofas with washable covers. Recommend this stuff - for everything including stains on cashmere jumpers! www.ocado.com/products/hg-extra-strong-stain-spray-570705011?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvqeUBhCBARIsAOdt45btf9eccJ1M4t72imYfh2g7vepygV4sGNbxOzlU--TzvWp1OTj6pR4aAjVoEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
