Do you have a sofa in your kitchen/diner/family room?

We move into our new house next week. We have a separate living room as well as a kitchen/diner/family room. Wondering if you have a sofa in yours what sort did you get?? We haven't had a sofa in kitchen before - is leather better so it's wipe clean or is material fine? We will be having a navy and white kitchen so any suggestions or pics of how your kitchen/diner/family room looks with sofas in would be appreciated.

@DockOTheBay I might have a look at those ikea chairs as well as a potential alternative to sofa as you say can move into living room if need extra seating. I'm not sure on tv yet as trying to figure out where we'd put one but I guess we can play around with ideas once we're in!

Another one here with IKEA (x2) large sofas. Removeable and washable covers. Really comfortable to sit on too. They’re the Nockeby sofas, which I believe have now been discontinued.

We had a Chesterfield sofa in the kitchen in our previous house. Looked great, but really uncomfortable and quite cold in the winter. We sold it before we moved and made a mental note to buy fabric ones for this house. Best thing we did.

I have a sofa, armchair, bookshelfs, TV and cofee table in my kitchen.

In my sitting room I have a sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, cooker, hob, dishwasher, microwave and a kettle.

We have a large velvet sofa and a wall mounted tv. It's fab! I just hoover the sofa every so often.

We have an ancient Sofa Workshop
Sofa in our kitchen. It has removable covers. It's the dog's sofa so the covers get washed every few weeks. It's nearly 20 years old and still going strong!

Next possibly controversial question...those of you with sofas in the kitchen/diner/family room - do you have a tv in there too? And if so is it on a sideboard or wall mounted?

I have an alcove so I built a cupboard and put the tv on top. Stores my daughters craft stuff as well.

@Newnormal99 now this sounds like a perfect solution I will have to see what I can do!

Our last house had a great big kitchen/diner room with a huge old Habitat velvet chesterfield sofa in it. At 40 it was the oldest of our sofas ; it had been spilled food smeared and booze dripped on, sicked and wee'd on, a cat gave birth on it, multiple muddy boys and dogs and leaky babies had bounced and climbed on it. Springs broke. Kittens clawed the fabric. Most of the last decade it was the favoured throne of a very large greyhound leaving little space for anybody else. People who knew classic furniture would hint that it would be well worth getting professionally repaired and recovered. We prefered to keep it in its battered grubby state where you could come home filthy, throw yourself down and not worry about any oil/paint/mud /blood/manure transference. (We had a large posher sitting room with two large clean (er) sofas in it). When we downsized one of the sons berated me for letting it go; it was "iconic; part of our history". I said he was welcome to take it but he drew the line at hosting that iconic eau de bazooka whiff in his own home. I advertised it free to collect and
it was snapped up for renovation by a deliriously happy person .

When DC were little we had a sofa in the kitchen, also a tv and table and chairs though we generally ate in separate dining room.
I loved it because it meant you weren't isolated in there while cooking, everyone hung around in the kitchen and you could chat while stirring.
I just had a big comfy squashy fabric sofa. Actually leather would have been much better but it was just a spare old sofa.

I have an IKEA SÖDERHAMN, withwashable covers because we only had a small space to fit it in! It's great!

whoruntheworldgirls · 22/05/2022 16:40

Yep, just a cheapish 2 seater one from tesco with a removable cover from Amazon. We also have a cuddle chair and a small armchair

Following as we are getting rid of our conservatory to create a large kitchen diner and have just been talking about putting a sofa/tv in there too.

also thinking of a modern electric fire under the tv

Shellingbynight · 22/05/2022 17:49

Yes, we have a TV on a shelf, in what was the fireplace alcove.

We’ve got a Hendricks Loveseat from John Lewis which comes in a huge range of fabrics (or leathers). I like it for the kitchen, it isn’t too sofa-y and is easy to mop under etc.,

No TV, but sometimes I watch TV on the iPad there.

jaundicedoutlook · 22/05/2022 20:01

We have an L shaped kitchen / dining room so have a kitchen zone, dining zone, and a sitting zone. Regular fabric sofa - not found the need for wiping down as with good ventilation in the kitchen it isn’t an issue. Only real issue is that the corner part seems to have been adopted by the cat who swishes his tail and stares at anyone else who sits there.

DontKeepTheFaith · 22/05/2022 20:12

Yes, we have a sofa. The kitchen area is separated by an island type thing and the other side of that against the wall is the leather sofa, and it’s not the least bit disgusting!

We love it, it’s huge room so we spend most of the day in there and only use the living room in the evening.

We do have a TV but no one really watches it except DH.

RosscA · 02/12/2023 21:41

I think so as we spend half our lives here - vintage chesterfield 👍

We have kitchen, diner, breakfast room. We have a sofa in the breakfast room, we use this all day, and only use our main lounge in the evenings.
