Pink paint for living room

We're redecorating our living room and the family decision is a pink colour for the walls. We're looking for a "grown-up" pink.

Either a blush pink with yellowish tones, but I don't want it to look peach or terracotta, so it's a fine balance.

Or pink with grey tones, but don't want it to look lilac-ish.

Not really sure which would look best.

Our house is 1950s, and the room is south facing with a large bay window so sunny and bright in the day time . It has the original coved ceiling which I want to keep white (see pic with coved ceiling a freshly plastered wall!).

Can anyone recommend any pink paints in these shades?

@hygtt

I'm scared it's the new grey though!
Yes it might be. But if it’s just emulsion it’s quick and easy to change.

I’d not buy pink sofas or pink kitchen cabinets.

hygtt · 08/12/2021 19:43

I've seen pink kitchens & bathrooms though which makes it more quicker to die & the problem is what do you go for next. I don't change paint colours very often, I did my living room grey 9 yrs ago & pink just before covid.

hygtt · 08/12/2021 19:44

And although I don't have pink furniture or sofas my colour scheme does compliment the pink if that makes sense.

We've just painted the sitting room Perfectly Pink and Folk Blue by Valspar and I'm really pleased. It's a neutral blush pink and looks great but it may not be as dark as you're looking for.

@TawdryBrush

So we've bought some testers and DH doesn't like setting plaster (bottom right) or pink ground (top right). It does look very peach when lights are on, but nicer in natural light.

He prefers one called great white which is the palest one on the picture and is more a cold white with grey and pinkish undertones.

It's difficult to judge as it's so dark today so not much natural light in the room for once!

We also tried peignoir and calamine and a dulux one called pink blush. These are not official f&b testers btw as too expensive, but colour matches.

Calamine is v pink - my daughter's nursery is this colour

I bloody love Great White but it definitely has some lilac undertones so doesn't fit the brief.

Try Little Greene - I struggled with FB colours.

Ooh love this I have a pink living room too, although mine is north east facing, we have a beautiful white architrave all around

I choose Nancy's blushes from valspar paints
I love it 😍

senorafridgidaire · 08/12/2021 20:24

We have F&B Calamine (except like a PP its not F&B but Johnstones) in our lounge and its a lovely soft warm pale pink

Sunnysideup999 · 08/12/2021 20:27

There’s an d farrow and ball paint called potted shrimp which is a bit browner than setting plaster - worth a try?

StormBaby · 08/12/2021 20:41

We are about to do ours Dead Salmon. I adore it , so warm but muted

Lennybythewood · 08/12/2021 22:28

I've just had a room painted in Valspar truffle berry cream - definitely very pink but, in my view at least, it's a grown up pink.

Bluesheep8 · 09/12/2021 07:45

Slipper satin is definitely not pink!!!

Agreed. It's not remotely pink.

Bluesheep8 · 09/12/2021 07:46

Which one is Calamine in your pic please, OP?

TawdryBrush · 09/12/2021 08:57

Calamine is bottom left.

F&B Middleton pink is great! It looks pink, white or grey depending on light, it never, ever looks peachy.

(Also made up in Johnstone’s like others have said.)

This was going to be my suggestion — we just painted the living room in a copy of this, and love it. It’s a warm brownish pink, and works well in different kinds of light.

I"ve just done our well-lit, south facing sitting room in Little Greene China Clay 1 on the ceiling and down to the picture rail and Atelier Ellis Stony Plaster on the walls, skirting boards, radiators, fireplace surround,. They are light, grown-up neutrals, neither peach nor lilac. I was really hoping for something fractionally more caramel/beige - ever so slightly dirty, but it's just impossible to tell how a pink neutral will play out over the entire surface. Some of them (like Little Greene Castell Pink and Ferdinand) look perfect as samples, but come out really brown. I've used Pink Ground elsewhere, but it can look like germolene in bright light, so I've kept it for little touches in small corners. Dulux Blush is nice, but a bit more flowery.

I'm going to keep adding brown/toffee.caramel neutrals to my Stony Plaster sitting room to get the last grains of sugar out of it. If I were starting again, I might look at the Plaster series in the Paint and Paper Library range. Good luck! Pink can be a cruel mistress!

saivartelija · 10/12/2021 21:53

Little Greene Chemise is a nice soft pink

midlifecrash · 10/12/2021 22:26

To make a plaster pink warmer try a yellow undercoat - a deepish yellow thinned to a wash is better than a pale one. You could try a patch on the wall where the light hits to see if it’s what you want

NoCureForLove · 10/12/2021 22:30

Another vote for Middleton Pink. It's v pretty in our big first floor living room.

PyjamaMamma · 12/12/2021 15:23

Just came back to say you are probably right about pink 2, OP. It’s very similar to setting plaster, a bit lighter but has the same ‘vibe’. Room not completely dry yet but can take a photo tomorrow (hopefully it will be a brighter day too).

Level75 · 12/12/2021 15:45

Ballet Shoe by Earthborn paints is lovely.

Darcy101 · 14/12/2021 17:32

Middleton Pink is a beautiful colour, I am sorely regretting painting over it, it's a grown up pink, very warm.

Subbaxeo · 15/12/2021 13:20

Little Greens China Clay Deep-nice and grown up
