Are Jo Malone candles worth the money

Love the smell of jo malone when walking through selfridges but cheapest candle is £60. Are they worth the money? Don't mind paying that much if they are worth it

I've loved JM since being given a bottle of Basil and Mandarin bath oil as a teenager 20+ years ago but for some reason now the candles give me hay fever, I love the scent though.

Autumnchill · 22/11/2020 20:17

Worth the money. My SIL gets me most years and I love it. Currently burning this one

@jujuball Scent to Boost your Energy one is lovely, Perfect Peace is my absolute favourite. Christmas Wish is nice too and on offer in John Lewis at the moment.

LaBodDelMed · 22/11/2020 20:21

@Hayeahnobut

I've only had the pomegranate noir one, and honestly the Aldi one is just as good. They're not complex scents, so easy to copy.

St Eval have some lovely candles, and there you're supporting a small business too. In fact for decent candles I only buy from smaller businesses now.

@Hayeahnobut - I love St Eval too. Especially their Sea salt one. Currently burning it now actually!
LaBodDelMed · 22/11/2020 20:22

And I have had Jo Malone candles previously. But on reflection I don’t think they’re worth the (full price) money.

Bajalaluna · 22/11/2020 20:22

Nope, don't rate them at all. Especially for the extortionate price, when you can get wonderful scented candles sooo much cheaper! Has a set of 3 small Jo Malone candles as a present, and one of the wicks wouldn't light on one of them! Took it back to JL, and was told because I'd lit the other ones they wouldn't give a refund or exchange?! It was completely unusable, and considering the price, shocking really. Not that I think it would have been worth the price even if it did light. Had some gorgeous true grace candles in the past, and the bomb cosmetic tine, and Kew gardens candles are brilliant, the scent will fragrance a large room... For a tiny fraction of the cost of Jo Malone. Woodwork are also great.

Touchitmoveit · 22/11/2020 21:22

@Bajalaluna I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t return it or swap it, that’s terrible! Their CS has always been pretty good for me- I burnt a three wick candle if theirs (about £125 new but I had it as a gift) and the wax wasn’t burning evenly. I emailed JM direct and they sent me a replacement with just some photo evidence! Is burnt about 1/4 of it so was impressed they offered a replacement. Maybe worth emailing? Just a thought.

CherryPavlova · 22/11/2020 21:31

They usually do free gifts about once a year and we stock up then. The scents are lovely. My current favourite is glowing embers but I’m tempted by their roasted chestnut for Christmas.

Sickofmysalary · 22/11/2020 21:34

@ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave sorry to jump in but is the Christmas one very spicy?

I used to love the fairy dust candle by lily flame. Would like to find a more grown up version!

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 22/11/2020 21:41

@Sickofmysalary No it’s very orangey/citrusy, like cloves, it’s quite a comforting aroma. The Perfect Peace one is very zingy and fresh if you like those sort of scents.

Sickofmysalary · 22/11/2020 21:48

Thanks I think I’ll order one of those two later :)

GezFox · 22/11/2020 21:59

Diptyque are way better imho - Baies is delicious!

Babymamaroon · 22/11/2020 22:12

I've got several Jo Malone ones of the go...of which were gifts.

Can anyone remind me how much they used to cost say 1-2 years ago?

I'm sure the last time I bought one (don't quote me on this though!!) it wasn't £60?!

coldspaghettio · 22/11/2020 22:27

I have the Pomegranate Noir after reading everyone on here say they love it and I hate it. Awful smell. Like a really awful over powering perfume.

I also have Diptyque and they're worth it, beautiful scents.

JoeNotExotic · 22/11/2020 22:28

Another vote for diptyque. Benjoin or tubereuse is my fave.

Anjo2011 · 22/11/2020 22:38

Try ‘Jo Loves’ - Jo Malones own range, there is another brand called By redo , you can buy on space NK . I’m also a diptyque fan. Jo Malone have a beautiful Christmas one this year called Frosted cherry and clove. Are they worth it? Probably not but they bring me joy!

MrsHookey · 22/11/2020 22:47

I have had two and think they are crap. The smell is actually stronger when they don't burn. Second time was a gift from a house guest. I would never buy one of them again.

MrsHookey · 22/11/2020 22:49

The Jo Malone perfumes are good. The candles are depressingly crap given the price. It felt like rip off central. I'd raise you a Glade even.

HerFlowersToLove · 22/11/2020 22:53

Personally I'd stick to the Aldi ones.

NeonIcedcoffee · 22/11/2020 22:53

No

copperoliver · 22/11/2020 23:04

Neom are lovely or Aldi's ones smell like jo malone or darceys are nice too. X

EasterIssland · 22/11/2020 23:23

I’ve the diptynique after I came here asking about jm and I was recommended. They’re not 15% off in liberty of London.

EasterIssland · 22/11/2020 23:24

I got the Xmas neom one from ASOS with 20% off they smell well but maybe I prefer diptonique

Parkmama · 22/11/2020 23:30

I prefer White Company ones, they can be fairly good value and give off a decent scent.

I love Jo Malone but think it's overpriced for how long they last and for the strength of their smell. Much like their perfume, smells lovely at first then seems to fade away to nothing at all.

More recently I have been burning wax melts over candles, stronger smell and much cheaper.

RatanPostmaster · 22/11/2020 23:36

Another vote for St Eval.
