Are Jo Malone candles worth the money

Love the smell of jo malone when walking through selfridges but cheapest candle is £60. Are they worth the money? Don't mind paying that much if they are worth it

Honestly, yes they’re a gorgeous very expensive treat

SaigonSaigon · 22/11/2020 16:00

100% not worth it in my opinion. I treated myself to one and was so disappointed. Fragrance was so subtle. It wasn't worth the price tag for me.

HotSince63 · 22/11/2020 16:05

I love them.

Although agree with a PP, some of them only have a very subtle fragrance.

I'm currently burning the Incense & Embers fragrance and it isn't strong at all.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 22/11/2020 16:10

No. I have had several and the scent has not been enough for me.

My friend often lights a Pomegranate Noir one in her (rather grand) downstairs loo / cloakroom when they have friends round and it is lovely in there but, in a normal room, it was just lost and I would not be prepared to pay for two or more

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 22/11/2020 16:11

Sorry, by saying "I have had several", I meant several fragrances and none of them carried enough scent for me

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 22/11/2020 16:19

I prefer Diptyque if you’re going to spend a lot of money on one.

LightDrizzle · 22/11/2020 16:35

Another Dyptique fan here. I have Feu de Bois in winter and more floral ones in spring and summer.

Whiffle77 · 22/11/2020 16:42

Aldi do knock off jo malone ones, the pomegranate one is lovely Smile

Nonamesavail · 22/11/2020 16:43

Nope.

ShitXmasCracker · 22/11/2020 16:43

I was coming on to flag up the Aldi dupes, too. Very close and I think only £3.50

youngestisapsycho · 22/11/2020 18:16

I have had 3 different ones and thought they were crap. Hardly any smell.

Sickofmysalary · 22/11/2020 18:19

Any thoughts on Neom for another who is tempted by Jo Malone?

hopeishere · 22/11/2020 18:20

I was given a JoLoves pomelo one and it was gorgeous!

Stinkyjellycat · 22/11/2020 18:23

Jo Malone are not worth it, and I say this as someone who isn’t afraid to splash my cash on things I like. They do smell nice, but so do many other candles. I’ve just bought some from Bloom Candles and they smell exactly the same at the JM English Pear and Freesia - at a fraction of the price. The Aldi range is also great, and again, much cheaper.

Hayeahnobut · 22/11/2020 18:25

I've only had the pomegranate noir one, and honestly the Aldi one is just as good. They're not complex scents, so easy to copy.

St Eval have some lovely candles, and there you're supporting a small business too. In fact for decent candles I only buy from smaller businesses now.

TheNighthawk · 22/11/2020 18:46

I bought a Rose one some time ago for someone as a thank you.

Some while later I bought a Rose one for myself. Lit it in the kitchen. I was upstairs when I wondered what the awful rancid smell was permeating the house. Minutes later my teen children begged me to put it out as it smelt like something rotting (it did).

Felt mortified I had bought it as a gift earlier.

PalacePaper · 22/11/2020 18:59

Thank you @Stinkyjellycat I have just ordered 3 candles from bloom on your recommendation Smile

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 22/11/2020 19:07

I love NEOM.
Expensive but the house smells beautiful.
I had a Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir which was lovely but it was a gift. If I was going to splurge on a candle it would be NEOM every time.

nancybotwinbloom · 22/11/2020 19:11

Another vote for the aldi dupes

Stinkyjellycat · 22/11/2020 19:16

@PalacePaper
I hope you like them, I feel a sense responsibility now Grin They really are nice though!

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 22/11/2020 19:17

Neom ones are lovely too. I’ve had loads of those, got the diffuser now in the hope I’ll spend less on candles Smile

doadeer · 22/11/2020 19:23

I've got a candle subscription with Iggy Box, each month the candles are amazing - it's only £15/20 per month but they are so fragrant and last ages and you get to support loads of small businesses.

jujuball · 22/11/2020 20:00

Would be interested to hear which NEOM fragrances are recommended? Would love to give them a try!

FWIW I have the Peony & Blush Suede JM candle and I love it. I find the scent throw really good personally. Diptyque are lovely too.

Touchitmoveit · 22/11/2020 20:03

I totally disagree with most posters- they are worth the money. I have a Pomengranate Noir three wick which totally fills the space with the most amazing scent- I can smell it in any room in the house. Their body oils etc and moisturisers are also amazing. I love them but they ARE an expensive treat and I do really look after them if and when I have them (let them burn out and trimmed the wicks)

Touchitmoveit · 22/11/2020 20:03

Ooh and Diptique Ambre is also lush and smells very, very strong. Again worth every penny.
