Grouting regrets

Grouting in the bathroom has just gone up. I saw it and burst into tears.

Tiles are light grey. Grout is very beige.

Tiler happens to be my dad and he convinced me that it was a neutral colour and would blend in seamlessly ... It hasn't, it's fucking beige.

What am I going to do?!

I know realistically re-grout the bloody room but he's saying I'll just have to get used to it... Why did I bother buying new tiles just to have the final effect ruined?!

You need a grout pen! Also don’t let your dad use the jasmine sealant. I had similar issue with a grout colour which was supposed to white and looked more creamy and really clashed with my bright white tiles, so I used a grout pen on it and was great! I’ve since used a grey grout pen on my floor tile grout too to darken it. It’s been washed and bleached hundreds of times and still looks great. Nice cheap option too!

This is what it's looking like at the moment.

I'm now having an argument with DP about whether it looks "fine" or not.

I regret starting this bloody room in the first place!

It’s not a proper project till you’ve fell out though.

Happydaysforever123 · 11/06/2020 15:22

OP, it looks absolutely fine in the last photos, honestly,

Here’s a photo of white grout on the left and staines grout on the right (from Instagram)

I actually like the pics you shared!

You could go for some pink accessories? Could be good? Some rattan/natural accessories too would be nice.

HAHA I originally wanted a pink bathroom! DP vetoed that idea though, so I vetoed his idea to have a blue bathroom in turn maybe I'll try sneaking some in. Shower curtain will be white.

I do want to buy or make a laundry hamper which is also a seat, and this would be wooden to add some natural elements to the room. I hadn't considered rattan! Will bear in mind.

I think the new photos look great and the grout looks white.

Saz12 · 11/06/2020 22:01

The latter pictures look great! It looks like it dried a better colour.

Rattan and natural accessories will look great.

Unknown2020 · 12/06/2020 09:23

I think the recent pictures look fab! I’d be happy with how it’s dried out now, although it’s hard to see past something when you’d already imagined it different. Rattan will look great and I’d also go for blush pink accessories!

xxKatie9806xx · 12/06/2020 12:04

The recent pics look much better. I would carry on with the rest of the bathroom and see how you feel when it’s all done!

SparrowInTheHedge · 12/06/2020 13:41

Thanks all, I have definitely calmed down a lot.

It looks white-ish now that it has dried, but when it gets wet it goes beige and looks mouldy imo. In person you can see the tone is warm. Not really coming across in photos.

For now, with the rest of the house still very much a building site, I'm just going to put my big girl pants on and live with it.

The shower stickers are on backwards too. I need a large glass of wine after work today Wine

What’s a shower sticker?.

SparrowInTheHedge · 12/06/2020 15:32

Fluffycloudland77

Sorry that's not what they're called but I have no idea what the correct term is, it's the stickers that indicate which control does what.

Mine turns the shower on if you turn to the hand shower label, and vise versa.

Should be able to swap the handles so they're labelled right.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2020 16:04

Hopefully you can change them, some hotels don’t even have stickers you just try both.

Nixee2231 · 13/06/2020 19:07

I hope for your sake that it is looking better now that it's dried but I don't understand how people can come to that conclusion based on the last photos. The first photo had bright light shining on the wall and the last photos are very very dark with little contrast so it's impossible to pick up a subtle difference in shades of white.

Are there people in your life who you can trust to be honest with you? You can ask them what color they think the grout is without first influencing them with your own perspective. I bet noone will even notice it until you point it out. I notice it and I'm a huge perfectionist but I've come to the realization lately that we (women, mostly) sometimes blow up tiny design problems in our heads when in reality we wouldn't even notice it if it was in somebody else's house.

flirtygirl · 13/06/2020 20:04

I think people are wrong to say live with it. Nothing wrong than 10 years from now living with it and having had to see it for 3500 days and having hates it every single time. Change it or use a grout pen but sort it.

Don't you deserve to walk into the room and truly love it when it's finished?

felineflutter · 13/06/2020 20:24

I am the only one who thinks it looks ok?

I had white grout and regret it as it looks dirty now.
