What would you do to this room for 10 year old girl?

I need ideas for my dd new bedroom, it's quite small at 8'7" x 9'9", she needs everything new, bed, desk, wardrobe, bedside table if all that will fit in. She has a teddy zoo which will be coming with us and I need storage ideas for toys etc. I'm open to any ideas/colours anything to help please.

High sleeper with a desk underneath? I'd keep the walls white & let her chose her own colours with some wall things, bedding etc but probably change the carpet.

Oh & storage wise I go for ikea everytime

I wouldn't bother with a desk if you're short on space. Having had four teens I can tell you that they end up covered in clutter, and your dd will probably end up studying on her bed or on the floor. If you really would like one, could it double as a bedside table? Presumably all a bedside table would have on it is a lamp, book, glass of water?

Ask her about a cabin bed. They provide useful storage but IME kids start getting rid of them as they move on to secondary school. Maybe she'd rather have a proper bed with drawers or pull out storage for toys underneath.

Ikea is definitely a good place to look for storage, furniture and design ideas for small rooms.

A wall mounted mirror might be a good idea. She'll need one for hair/make up soon enough and it can make a room appear bigger.

A local carpenter might make a built in wardrobe for a reasonable price, to utilise the space from floor to ceiling, or to fit an awkward corner or alcove.

Desk table that goes around bed.

my youngest son’s room is a similar size and he has a high sleeper bed from ikea that has a pull out desk and a cupboard at the end with shelves in. he also has a ‘cage’ for his teddies that he saw whilst browsing bedroom ideas and had my dad make for him, which is basically a box frame made of wood with bungee cord across so that he can pull out which ever teddy he wants. it looks good and stops his entire bedroom being cluttered with teddies and toys.

Dusty pink walls, high sleeper with desk and drawers and possibly wardrobe underneath, (in white veneered wood?), either change the floor to a v v light laminate with a naice fluffy punk rug or one of her colour of choosing, or a semi matching to walls carpet that is lighter than the walls. Then maybe try white floaty curtains, fairly lights around the bed, skme naice things n bookshelves for the walls etc. A tall thin and white wardrobe could be placed where that little door is if it wouldn't be in the way x

Teddy zoo?

IKEA storage.Dd has the 5×5 cube one,some with baskets some have book,plants etc in them.
She wanted white walls and blinds She also has a corner desk.She has clothes storage under her bed.Ths arrangement leaves plenty of space for her floordrobe.

I am not a fan of cabin beds myself, not entirely sure why, just not. I would personally go for a normal bed with drawers underneath to shove toys in. my girls have desks and I agree they seem to just be for storing piles of stuff. I like the table to pull over the bed though, that could work well. Colours wise is very personal. I have one who has blue walls and curtains in her room with a cream carpet and one with silver grey curtains and carpets with purpley patterened wallpaper on one wall. I like the Ikea billy bookcases with doors on. keeps clutter hidden and looks smart. That is a frustratingly dark carpet but if it is in good condition then I would get a nice light rug that covers a large area of the visible floor to lighten it all up.

at age 10, I don;t think I wold go for pink at all unless she is very girly.

I have 2 girls aged 11 and 14 and they are definitely past pink, even in a sophisticated shade.

My ds is 16 and we got rid of his desk about 18 months ago. Then in the run up to GCSEs he has asked for it back again.

A desk across the window would be lovely if that works size wise. Wardrobe to the right of the window and the bed along the wall on the left? I would add shelves above the bed for toys/books.

Cabin beds tend to get outgrown quickly in my view and changing the sheets can be a pain. It depends how many toys / clothes she has.

A small chest of drawers instead of a bedside table is great for storage if it will fit.

I am really not sure about a cabin bed.

ds (now 16) got rid of his aged 12, as he wanted to flop on the bed, and couldn't do that on a cabin bed.

dd2 now has it, and she is 11. She is still happy with it, but I don;t think it will last.

Something like this from the stepped cupboard (if it will fit) to the corner. Swap bottom bed for fold out bed or comfy chair.

10 years old is a transitional age. She'll stop playing with toys (sadly) within a year so don't design the room around toy storage. She'll also outgrow a high bed but will need a homework area.
IKEA do good desk tops. It's up to you to make sure she uses it and doesn't clutter it up.
Soft toys can be put in a hammock hung high up.

DD is nearly 11. She hated her midi sleeper so we got rid of it a couple of years ago, so I wouldn’t recommend one.

She wants a turquoise room, I’ve bought white furniture and have just replaced the toy storage with a bookcase.

Have you asked her what she’d like? We had a great time doing the 13yo’s room when she was 11 and she still likes it.

She chose one dark blue wall behind her bed, 3 light blue walls and quite a lot of beach themed bits. My friends 11 yo twins have just done their rooms, one went for a ‘70’s geometric design, the other a very pretty pink girly look with lots of fluffy things. Another friends 14 yo just had hers done in a very lovely raspberry...which we were all surprised by as she normally hates pink & chooses blue.

My parents let me choose when I was 13, it was a very adult colour scheme and ‘of its time’ they didn’t think I’d like it, but I LOVED it.

You can get bean bags that you fill with soft toys.

I wouldn't get a cabin bed. There are so annoying as can't just lie sround on them. Or if you like to sit and chat with her before bed or read to her its impossible. Let her chose colour for one wall. In my experience hanging space is not much use as they don't have too much to hang. Shelves in a wardrobe and lots of drawers are better.

My dd was 12 when we decorated her room last year - powder blue and white. It seems to be the colour scheme they all like ( her friends). White ikea furniture. We just have underbed storage but she’s a minimalist so that’s not been an issue with this dd.

Just for different anecdotal stuff, I had a double Ikea loft bed when I was 13-18 and loved it, I had a bedinge sofabed underneath for sleepovers and sex and because I had a small room it gave me so much space

About to get a loftbed for our 10yr old DS so same lack of room reasons but he’s going to have theatre blacks and build a stop motion studio underneath

Ikea do wall mounted, drop down desks that might utilise a dead space above/around a radiator.

Blackout blind rather than curtains, neater and better sleep.

I wouldn't bother replacing carpet or getting a rug. It's such a small room that by the time your bed, bedside table/desk/drawers, wardrobe are in you'll hardly see any floor anyway.

Agree not to worry about teddy/toy storage too much as in a year or two they'll be getting packed away.

We have something like this for my 7 year old's cuddly toys... we have a rule now that once the bag is full, no more!!! Any empty bean bag would do?
