Help! What colour to paint my therapy room wallls?

Have qualified as a hypnotherapist and am setting up my therapy room. It has a sloping roof. I have a purple chair and two dark grey ones (see pic) Was thinking of a soft green for the walls, but not sure! Looked at Dulux Nordic Spa, but maybe a bit bright? I like the look of Highland Falls number 4 or 5, but haven’t got a tester pot yet. The room gets lots of light and greys look very cold. I need something calming and that isn’t too girly, as I will have male clients too. Any help much appreciated.

I would go for pale powder and and cover the purple chair x

Notwiththeseknees · 14/01/2019 06:00

Just found this.... not uber-duber trendy, mod-trad classy & relaxing. I would find that very calming.

I think neutral.

I think it I'll be lovely when finished. Please post an after pic!

Not green. Too institutional. Not for girly reasons at all, but pale pink is good. Calming. Real men like pink. Wasn't there some research into the best colours for a therapeutic setting, and pink came out on top?

BBInGinDrinking · 14/01/2019 06:30

I might be swimming against the tide here...Wink

Charley50 · 14/01/2019 06:44

Glad that carpets not in there!
I don't like the outcome chair either. I think purple is a bit of a marmite colour.
Love the building. And setting..
Yes, calming colour, maybe grey that works with the green outside?

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 14/01/2019 06:45

There’s a dull pale green called Umbro I think it’s crown. That would look lovely

cushioncuddle · 14/01/2019 06:54

I have grey green linen Dulux and it compliments purple really well. I wouldn't go dark not for a therapy room.

Atalune · 14/01/2019 07:39

Bone doesn’t look yellow on. Get a tester. f and b paint never goes on like the swatches

Sorry about the purple comment Blush it’s only my opinion.

Atalune · 14/01/2019 07:40

I have almond white in my dining room 🤮 and am going with bone instead now. Definitely not yellow.

IDismyname · 14/01/2019 07:55

If you look carefully, you’ll find that F&Ball have grouped together their neutrals into colour based tones...Yellows, Reds etc.
From that, you should be able to ascertain which neutrals would work.

I agree with others, that green could be a bit institutional, and a pale lilac would not work with a purple chair.

Which way does the room face? Does it have a lot of glass? Is the outlook from the room the best bit, and one that clients will see?

It may be worth working out how you’ll arrange the room. That will give you a better idea as to what’s the most important thing or things to consider.

IDismyname · 14/01/2019 07:57

Re Pink - I think F&B have a new pink called Sulking Room Pink. It’s pink. But it’s not pink either!

Also, look on Pinterest or Insta for ideas.

cathlaugh · 14/01/2019 08:24

Lol! The carpet is not part of the therapy room- that is just where the chairs are temporarily stored. It’s the elderly in laws hotsd. 😂

Bone can come up very green, well it did in my living room.
I would go more neutral.... my go to neutrals are Egyptian Cotton or Chalky Down. Then accessorise with colour

JosephineHass · 14/01/2019 09:11

Bluesheep8- Actually I don't know- might be.
I just looked for sky blue wall colour.🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

Snapsnapsnap · 14/01/2019 09:13

Try F+B Calluna. Utterly lovely, calm, dreamy.

Snapsnapsnap · 14/01/2019 09:14

Sorry that was a bit vague-it's a grownup pale heather colour!

cathlaugh · 14/01/2019 11:06

Gorgeous! But would clash with my purple chair. Think am gonna go for James White from Farrow and Ball, as it has just the right green tinge to it.

I think a pale sage-ish green would be lovely, and help promote a calm environment.

ScienceIsTruth · 14/01/2019 11:16

Something like this: It's by Dulux and is called Willow Tree.

Liking F&B James White- originates from a doc using it as a therapy room in his garden! 😃

Good choice, OP. Glad you dodged the (PTSD triggering for some, IME) institutional green, but I am off now to repaint in Sulking Room Pink...

Good luck, OP.

cathlaugh · 14/01/2019 17:45

Lol! Good luck to you too.

Love the idea of purple. Also want your dog! As an aside, I trained as an alcohol counsellor, and some of the training was done in a sloping room (attic) painted red. People really liked it, and we jointly called it the Womb Room.

WellBHoise · 14/01/2019 17:54

Whatever you use make sure it’s matt paint. Not any kind of shiney otherwise it will look like a hospital room
