Just painted chimney breast/new fire/tv but looks a bit bare!

Need some inspiration please as to what else to do?

Something like this with a couple of large jar candles

Gosh its incredibly low. Was it previously at the same height as the picture in the alcove?

Ours is in the middle with a really high ceiling height and no issues with it

The only thing I could suggest is some bunting all the way along and possibly round the sides, but only to try and fill the vast amount of space above.

How about a cluster of black square and rectangle frames equally spaced and in a geometric pattern. Put some holiday scene photos in them printed in black and white. Have white mounts in the frames. This should bring the fire and TV together.

newyorkgirl · 22/03/2017 20:04

I would do a wicker heart

Nothing's going to look right unless you move the tv, sorry but it looks really daft down there

newyorkgirl · 22/03/2017 20:05

Lots of different styles to choose an open one if you prefer that

I would be very very nervous about putting a tv that close to a fire!

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2017 20:05

Oh I've just read it's not real Blush

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/03/2017 20:06

A pair of candle holders in wrought iron type thing and a picture in the middle? Or buy a bigger telly and centre it (ours is old so i am not bragging but it would literally take up all that space)

NapQueen · 22/03/2017 20:07

Should have probably tidied before I shared that snap but fuck it.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 22/03/2017 20:09

Need to stick the wires away, that will happen eventually!!!

Even just a foot higher would look better.

Nospringflower · 22/03/2017 20:17

Agree with others who say there is nothing that can make it look good when its that low and so close to the fire. It just looks daft.

2017SoFarSoGood · 22/03/2017 20:18

The thing is that trying to make a nice feature out of an ugly tv (not your personal tv IFKWIM) is almost impossible. It does look very odd that low, but as you say that is what is functional. Perhaps you could do a floating shelf above with big bold items (one or two) that would almost block out the tv? that sounds weirder than what I see in my head. Put the shelf sor of like a mantel, above the tv.

Love the wicker heart.

AshesandDust · 22/03/2017 20:22

I would have something like a floating shelf on one side
so it's not symmetrical with maybe candles or a couple
of photograph frames on it.

AshesandDust · 22/03/2017 20:24

X post - great minds Smile

Jungfraujoch · 22/03/2017 20:32

Thanks for all the suggestions and critiques! 😉 I'm intrigued how those of you with TVs high up don't get cricked necks?!!

A shelf/ledge above is what I'm going to go for I think, although I am partial to a wicker heart!

And those who asked - the fire is not real and the TVs is centrally positioned!

Clear fairly lights and multi coloured balls, they come in various lengths and colours, mine were £20.

dudsville · 22/03/2017 20:36

We have a low level tv with a great clock above it.

han01uk · 22/03/2017 20:36

I would get a clock where you stick the number to the wall and it isn't a definite hanging piece (does that even make sense?!). I'll try and find something like I mean! That way it won't detract too much from the tv!

TheUpsideDown · 22/03/2017 20:37

Something similar to this would look nice. A couple of white staggered floating shelves with some interesting decorative bits & bobs on?

NovaArt this is the paint - we had to buy on Amazon this time, doesn't seem to be in shops anymore - I have a wall in the kitchen/family area same colour but we painted it about 5 years ago!

Thanks oleole for lights, Very pretty. I'm looking for a big clock for kitchen so don't want another in lounge now I think about it so shelving/ledge is the way to'go I think!
