Anyone have a nice light grey in their bedroom? We have a white wallpaper with silver/brushed sterl like tree trunks and wooden furniture but I don't know whether I like the grey sample pots I bought.

I have grey walls (F&B Elephant's Breath) in two north facing bedrooms. Both rooms have high personality decorative schemes and the grey sets the style off well in both - very different - cases.

Is Egyptian cotton a beige or grey? Our room is fairly dark. The wall paper really lightens it up. We have off white bedding and curtains. My stepson thinks a darker colour otherwise it will be too light/white. But he is 19, but has now thrown me.

We have this 6ft bed coming in 2 weeks and a silvery grey blue handmade throw. First time we have spent out andi'm worried about getting it wrong.

Dusted Moss 3 is a lovely pale grey. Have a slight obsession with it.

Awks · 20/10/2013 22:30

oh my I had about 12 samples on our bedroom wall. Must have spent 20 squid on F & B samples and in the end I lost interest and went to B & Q and bought 2 pots of light rain as upthread. It looks absolutely gorgeous. We have greige linen curtains, grey white and duckegg linen and ochre accents Grin

I tried lots of testers to find a light grey that was grey and not greeny/purpley/browny including F&B, crown etc.

We went for Dulux porcelain doll which is part of their timeless range. It's really pale and what I think is a proper grey.

BiscuitBeast · 20/10/2013 22:49

Have a look at the Little Green Paint company. We've recently decorated our entire house using their grey pallet and it's beautiful (if I may say so myself Smile).

TinyDiamond · 20/10/2013 22:51

Johnstones 'Ivory Spray'. It is bargainous from the range. My sis and I both have it in our houses. Beautiful.

AngryFeet · 20/10/2013 22:56

We have used this in our lounge which is a grey purple colour so not as cold as pure grey.

We have a feature wall with this paper www.diy.com/nav/decor/wallpaper-wall-stickers/wallpaper/greys/Bus-Tour-Wallpaper-in-Grey-with-a-Metallic-finish-by-Statement-12389116

Few red accessories around the room and it looks great :)

Light rain looking blue to me.

feetheart · 21/10/2013 07:14

Just done our hall and stairs in Light Rain and Grey Hints - very restful though Grey Hints can look either blue or lilac sometimes depending on the light but that works well with the one dark blue wall we have done.

SilverSixpence · 21/10/2013 11:22

Biscuitbeast which little Greene colours did you use?

noddyholder · 21/10/2013 11:25

Our whole house is elephants breath Looks brownish at the back (south) and proper grey at the front (north) All the carpets are grey sisal and old wooden and glass doors. Our bedroom has a huge window and I have stone coloured blinds with grey tapes and big olive rug it looks warm and still stylish. In teh sitting room I have heather coloured velvet sofas and sludgy pink cushions and throws HTH

WhisperingShadow · 22/10/2013 09:57

Do you go by how the sample looks on the wall or a piece of white paper? Just redone them on paper and they look totally different.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 22/10/2013 10:06

I usually do a piece in the middle of the room and another small area close to a door frame. What colour is the wall now?

WhisperingShadow · 22/10/2013 10:29

It is a mid beige. The colour that looks light and slightly grey on the wall (egyptian cotton) looks very orangy beige on paper. The one that looks cold and too light onthe wall (polished pebble) is a lovely light grey on paper. So confused. I guess we can repaint if needed. I can't stop obsessing and should be working.

we used Dulux Wishing Well, after many many tester pots. Everyone has said it looks great (it's in the dining room).

noddyholder · 22/10/2013 11:06

I would go lighter if anything because greys are everywhere and I think they have been done to death and people sre getting bored! I have painted ours in a greyish colour because I know who will buy it but for a home and longevity I would steer away from it being too grey

hawkeye21 · 22/10/2013 15:16

Sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to mark this thread as I'm planning to do my bedroom grey (with black carpet), and want to hijack all this great advice on paints.

MairzyDoats · 23/10/2013 23:41

Noddy - that's the bloody problem, I can guarantee I'll paint my living room grey (in two weeks time) and it will be the dullest most passe thing anyone has ever done. I still love it, I've always had a thing for grey I'm like the John Major of the interiors world but is it going to be dead naff in a nano-second? And what's next so I can get in first?

WhisperingShadow · 27/10/2013 16:33

Hmm. Painted two walls grey (polished pebble) but I really am not sure. Looks very grey even with two lighter walls.

I have elephants breath in a north facing sitting room with Laura Ashley truffle colour silk curtains and in the h,s & l with lots of black accent picture frames etc. elephants breath looks lovely with all shades of white and graphite and black.

Alwayscheerful · 27/10/2013 16:42

Different greys have different base colours.
Elephants breath has a red base, it is slightly purple/lilac in certain light.
French grey has a green base.
Greige is a good colour half way between grey and beige. I think it will be a classic.

BraveMerida · 28/10/2013 09:43

50 shades of grey is truly taking over the bedroom....Confused

EverythingUnderControl · 28/10/2013 09:55

'Elephants breath'?? Who thinks up names for paint?Grin

I do like grey very much though and it's a good colour to use to bring out a really bright statement type of colour too.

My problem is that dh won't even consider grey wallsHmm and starts moaning battleships/depressing colour etc.

Come to think of it I might be able to get a grey past him if it's disguised as 'Elephants Breath' after all.
