Viva Las Vegas - which hotel?????

Going to Las Vegas with DH in May for 5 nights (without DDs - yippee!) Don't know which hotel to choose.

My friend is marrying at the Circus Circus which will be relatively cheap to stay, but I fancy somewhere really nice as it'll be our only time out there. Thinking maybe The Luxor. Any suggestions or stories please.

stay at the bellagio, ooh its beautiful. cant do links but do a search on google.

Dh and I stayed in The Venetian which is amazing - and ...... we got upgraded to a HUGE suite which was just fantastic with it's own bar, sitting room, bedroom and the biggest bathroom you have ever seen! The pool area outside was lovely too with a smaller pool/jacuzzi hidden away in a corner somewhere which was very romantic! We didn't have a gondola ride, but the "canals" and indoor piazzas are amazing - the "sky" painted on the ceilings is specially lit to imitate different times of the day.

have been told circus circus is more family orientated, so you may want to give that a miss! Friends have stayed at Ceasers Palace and loved it.

kjq - have you shopped around for prices on the internet - that's we did to get the best deal - mind you we were only there for 2 or 3 nights so was a bit cheaper!!

We are marryiong at Caesars which is expensive but all of us are staying at excalibur as it is Children family and my nephews are coming. Got the whole deal f" weeks and flight from Manchester for under £800. with Airtours!!!

Loved looking around them all, but we stayed at the Luxor. REALLY loved it. Rooms were great(although we stayed in the normal part of the hotel and not the pyramid, as we wanted a bath tub).

LOVE Las Veags - we got married there 5 years ago in May. Haven't been back since though

posh paws any advice about Vegas weddings???

Is it wise to stay in a good hotel but then visit more expensive ones such as Venetian, Belagio etc

We 'eloped' - well, it was planned by us in the UK, bought dress, rings, arranged everything from here, but only I and DH knew .

It was fab - it lasted about 10 minutes, was ultra tacky (which was actually what we wanted), had Tom Jones walk me down the aisle and sing 'What's new Pussycat' and 'It's not unusual' (DH ancestory is Welsh) and then we took a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon. Have never regretted geeting married there (Little White Chapel), but you can do it in a more sedate, traditional way

We did have a massive party when we got back.

I stayed in Ceasars Palace which was great but if we were going back I would like to stay in the Venetian. You are so lucky.

Kjq - I am very jealous! We went to Vegas when I was pregnant with DD. It was DH's choice, I wasn't sure I'd like it but it was fab. We stayed at Ballys (opposite Bellagio - great view -if you stay in Bellagio you get a view of Ballys ). No, but seriously Ballys is pretty classy with no gimmicks. Personally, I would not stay in Circus Circus or Excalibur since you'll be child-free though would be great with kids. Bellagio's or Venetian would be my choice.

Highlights - definitely go see a show. We saw Tom Jones (How Vegas is that?). Go to the bar at the top of The Stratosphere - great views. Don't miss the pirate battle outside Treasure Island. Of course Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon if you get time. Enjoy it

ohhh do NOT stay at circus circus!
We stayed at mandalay bay in december for a few nights away from the children and it was lovely..the lobby smells delicious. Stayed at the hard rock the trip before that, but it was too noisy and not on the strip.
Most of the hotels do special online prices that are cheaper than what a travel agent can book, so search online.

The Four Seasons (its where the Mandalay Bay is but is totally separate from that hotel) is supposed to be very good (its the only hotel in LV where you do not have to walk through a casino to get to your room) and not vastly expensive considering everything.

Would suggest you read tripadvisor.com and read about the LV hotel reviews.

Would suggest you book online direct with the hotel and book the room asap - if a convention is on it can become very difficult to secure accomodation.

You can fly to LV direct with Virgin but again you need to book early.

I got married at the Luxor and it was fab, we upgraded to a room at the top of the pyramid, huge with jacuzzi etc.

BUT we went for a meal in the one next door, MGM Grand I think, and I prefered that so if I went again, I would stay there.

I stayed in the Luxor which was OK and no longer is the most expensive hotel. I support the advice in staying in a good hotel and get to visit (and spend the day) in a more expensive one. After all, you are going to be arounfd having a look at the hotels anyway (there's little left to see out of the hotels facilities-Oh yeah, the dam I know) and that way you can use the diference in price to go to shows, etc.

I've stayed at Luxor, New York New York & Monte Carlo. Pyramid rooms in Luxor are great but I really liked the atmosphere & pool area in Monte Carlo.
Book online or telephone hotel direct it's much cheaper. You can get to your rooms in the Luxor w/o going thru the casino & I might be wrong but think you can in Monte Carlo too. Not that it'll bother you if you're kiddie free. I didn't like the Excalibur found it rather seedy especially considering it's prime Strip position, lots of ladies of the evening in the bar. If I go back I'd do Paris or Venetian. Family stayed at the Alladin recently & said it was ok but nothing special for the money.
My SIL got married in the Graceland chapel & the ceremony was actually one of the nicest I've ever heard. The Reverend Cobb was a lovely minister. Elvis doing the post-nuptial singing was something else!

Another vote for The Venetian - stayed there Easter 2003 with dh and 2 x ds. Beautiful. We paid $119 per night (plus tax probably) which would be about £63 a night now. I expect rates have gone up a little since then. Book direct with the hotel or via expedia, hotels.com, travelocity etc - those rates you quoted seem expensive to me. Friends have stayed at the Aladdin and thought it great value. I'd be happy to stay there or at The Mirage, Caesars Palace or Paris if I couldn't afford The Venetian or Bellagio. Go to tripadvisor.com for recent reviews and Fodors U.S. Nevada forum for loads of recent discussion about Vegas. Do NOT stay at CircusCircus - it's a dump.

We went about 4 years ago and stayed at the circus circus. We were child free but liked the hotel and it was cheap.
Were going back in 3 weeks to get married. Were staying in the madalay bay which I liked when we last went and getting married in the gardens of cesars.

Good hotels are ; venitian and luxor

Circus circus is a no nooooooooo it's minging or i should say we dh and i visited there 2002.
We stayed (5 nights) at the Hilton a little off the strip but only a few mins walk or a $2 cab ride.
You'll have a ball we did we managed to visit nearly all the hotels, each one is wilder and wackier than the next.
The water display show outside the bellagio is a must and also i higly reccomend the helicopter ride over the canyon then down the strip (just as night is approaching is best time to fly over).
Have a fab time you can't fail too .
