Are the Canaries warm enough for a February half-term family holiday?

Has anyone been to the canaries in February half-term. Looking at booking our family's first package holidays. Is the canaries warm enough in Feb Half-term? I know that people go there then but when I look it up it is about 19/20 average temp, which would be pleasant but maybe not hot enough for outdoor pools etc. I really stuggle with the winter months so a holiday in Feb could be great. Also I think our half term falls differently to others as when I have looked up prices it is quite cheap and the weak after is about £1500 more. I was just looking for some advice from people who have been in feb.

We also go over New Year and it is usually low 20s. Warm enough to sit around a pool.
just make sure you go somewhere with a heated pool.

We have been the past 2 yrs at Feb half term. Both times have been to Fuertaventura. I would highly recommend somewhere with a heated pool otherwise you’ll be turning blue!

Both times we had zero rain. First time every day was glorious, last year a couple of days started off cloudy but sun came out later, still brilliant weather overall though. Those temps u see listed are in the shade so it feels much warmer in the sun. It was around 19-23 when we’ve been.

The hotel we booked this year, the pool was a little cold but not freezing it was manageable and the kids were in every day several times. There was also a splash park which is great if the pool is a bit too cold to be in for hours. The place the year before although it was heated, it was still very cold and I only went in once in the week.

I found it very cold in the evening last year to the point my daughter wore her winter jacket out on the evenings 😂 It was noted as being 15/16 degrees but with a real feel of 9/10! I was wearing long dresses or trousers with a long sleeved blazer and for me (I’m always cold) it wasn’t enough.

We are also booking again for next year but have noticed the prices for us seem to be higher than previous years. We are also considering Egypt, temps look a little higher. I’m in Scotland and I think our holidays used to be a week out with England, last year though it was so busy (more pricey too) so I think we have the same hols as England and now a lot of Europe (who also get that week). Kids only get 3 days holiday but we just take the kids out the other 2 days. If you can get something for £1500 take it that’s brilliant.

When looking at tripadvisor, filter on the months people visited, like Jan and Feb and you’ll find out what it’s really like. No point reading reviews from summer as it will be very different.

Yes it’s warm but it gets dark early

I went in February, it was pleasantly warm, with 2 days fairly hot ( compared to what I'm used to!)
I saw on social media they had storms and snow the next week. 😳

Yes we were there this February we are not English so didn't realise schools were off hotel had loads of children , it was in the mid 20s although it had been raining the week before we went. Sorry we were in Lanzarote it is windy there but it warmed up.

We went to South Tenerife one Feb half term and it was very overcast the whole week. I think it’s unpredictable.

Very unpredictable. We went to Lanzarote in April one year and it was overcast the whole 10 days & cold sometimes!

We've been for New Year and also early Feb. Both times were glorious, mid 20s and def sea/pool weather. This was in the south of Tenerife. I'm not a big fan of the area generally ... but Costa Adeje (Playa del Duque) is the nicest part of that bit. And it's so nice to get some sunshine when the weather is cold and frosty at home.

We have been in March and it was warm enough for the beach/summer clothes etc.
I would recommend going somewhere with a heated pool though because the water will be freezing that time of year.
Also you’ll need a couple of hoodies/jacket for the evening, it gets darker earlier so cooler overnight.
There is also a small chance of rain but it usually rains overnight there so wouldn’t worry too much.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura tend to be windier than Tenerife/Gran Canaria too

I wld only go to the gran canaria. Ive been to them all and the only one with warm sea, no wild wind and lovely warm days was GC.

We’ve been to southern GC in winter and summer, it’s always been glorious and warm. The days will be quite short in winter, so you will probably want a light jacket or cardigan for evenings.

It stays light a lot longer than it does in the UK at that time of year. And because it's much closer to the equator, the length of daylight varies much less than it does here.

OP it really is luck of the draw at that time of year. It could be relatively warm and sunny or even hot (we have seen close to 30 C in early January) or it could be mild with possible rain/storms although you'd be unlucky to have an entire week washed out. You can improve your chances of good weather by going to the south of an island and staying somewhere with a heated pool if you don't want to swim in cold water. The sea will be relatively cold in February. I think Gran Canaria is more reliably warm than Lanzarote or Tenerife and Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in particular can be quite windy.

We have been at Christmas, t shirt and shorts weather, fine on the beach. Maybe need a cardigan in the evening. Definitely need a heated pool for me, but kids seemed happy in the sea. I wore loose trousers over shorts, and a long sweatshirt over a t shirt for the airport this end and the plane. Then took off the top layers as we landed and felt fine. Did the same in reverse going home so I had warm stuff when we landed back in UK.

As others have said, I think it can be unpredictable but overall you’re obviously likely to get much warmer temps and a lot more sunshine than we have in the UK at that time of year. For me, one of the struggles of UK winter is the darkness and greyness so a few days in the Canaries over winter really gives me a lift. But then I’m not bothered about high temps and actually prefer low twenties/high teens.

I’ve been to Fuertaventura in Feb and to Lanzarote in Jan. Of the two, we had warmer weather in Fuertaventura. The heated pools at the hotel were great and we swam in the sea too which was refreshing but not what I’d call cold.

We’ve been in January and it’s been fine - the pool was heated and it was warm enough to sit/walk around in t shirt until the sun went down about 4pm then it suddenly went chilly. When we were there it ranged from 18-24 in the day.

The sun sets at about 6.30 in the Canaries in January @parachutegirl. It’s one of the reasons I like it as a destination in January, because in the UK the sun is setting at about 4pm at that time of year.

South of Tenerife is generally the warmest. We’ve been to Tenerife and Fuerteventura at that time of the year. The weather was very nice, I wore shorts and t shirts during the day and a light jacket in the evening. It was warm enough to sit at the beach and swim in a heated pool. The sea was very cold but it’s to be expected, it’s the ocean.

I went in January. Temps were 15-25.

pool at my hotel was unheated which was fine for me (I swim through the winter in the U.K.) but too cold for most. Sea was 20 ish and most days there were plenty of people swimming in it.

We went to Southern Tenerife- Costa Adeje - the first week of February this year. Incredibly lucky and had brilliant weather every day - around 25 degrees which is perfect for me.However a colleague went to Lanzarote in March and had a week of rain, so you can be unlucky as well. I think Tenerife has more of a reputation for being warmer over winter.

We went the last week of March this year to Lanzarote. It was absolutely freezing at night, people were wearing parkas and puffa jackets. Daytime wasn’t too bad but I wouldn’t go again at that time of year.

Warm but very breezy in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura which took the temp down a bit. Tenerife was ok. Beautiful in Gran Canaria- Puerto de Mogan in the South has its own microclimate and is my fave place in the Canaries.

We go most years in January or February.
It's a welcome break from the UK winter but don't make the mistake of expecting the same as a summer holiday in the Med.
You should get some warm sunny days, sunbathing weather if sheltered. It gets dark early and chilly in the evening. It's cold in the sea and even "heated" pools are brisk.
I take t shirts and shorts for day time and long trousers and fleece for evenings.

We went to La Gomera in March (ferry from Tenerife), it was about 22C all week, fine for exploring. I would get heated pools, ours had lots of pools some heated, some unheated which was fine. The week before there had been terrible weather with storms and a lot in Tenerife was shut, La Gomera had been hit week before but less, we weren't affected but it had badly affected people week before and if we had gone to Tenerife that week things would have been shut. We had one day when walking trails were shut but could just drive on so no big issue. For me heated pools you need to keep swimming, unheated could just manage swimming but wasn't especially pleasant. Did mean got pools to yourself. Was quite breezy. It wasn't for those who just stand around in a pool, too breezy.

We went to Jordan once in February half term and that was warm enough for proper sunbathing at the Red Sea but appreciate that’s a more adventurous holiday (and may not be advised at the moment).
