October half term with DH - where?

Help me decide please! So this will be our first holiday just the two of us. We’ve got just over a week and a budget of up to £4k (though is prefer to spend less).
We’d like somewhere warm, would be good to have a bit of luxury and places to explore. I’d like a decent pool - my ideal would be mornings exploring the area then afternoons by the pool.
Holidays until now have taken children into consideration but with just two of us, we’ve got more freedom over where we can go. Happy to fly long haul but is that too much for one week?
Where could you recommend?

Meant to say, not the Canaries.

We’ve had some great trips to Turkey at that time of year.

NCTDN · 18/05/2025 20:18

DH not keen on Turkey. We’ve been there in the past so looking for somewhere we’ve not been before.

The problem is that if you want to stick to Europe, the weather won't be guaranteed. If you are happy to take a gamble, we have had very nice weather in the south of France in Oct half term for the past two years. There is plenty to do in Nice and surrounding areas if the weather is less than ideal.

Crete might also be an option.

I’m not bothered about sticking with Europe but unsure if a long flight works for a week’s holiday?

Don't forget that it will get fresh when the sun goes down.

We went to Cyprus in October. Quite mixed weather including downpours, but the sun was down by 4.30pm.

You can't really stay in the pool in the shade anymore and pools do get cool-ish.

We have been to Crete twice during the October half term (last week of October). The weather is still good, gets colder at night. It will be the tail end of the season, so quieter and restaurants will be starting to close but you still have a good selection. Prices will also be better. I don't think there is much to explore (unlike a European city) but you can certainly walk around the town. More of a chillax holiday. There will be nice resorts with pools.

We did a weeks cruise of the Caribbean with Tui, also done a week in Mexico before, 4 nights in Vegas and this week I’m going to Florida for a week. If you want to go long haul then I think it would be fine.

minipie · 18/05/2025 22:45

Marrakech.

But why go in half term if no kids - school jobs?

DappledThings · 18/05/2025 22:50

We are going to Malta in October for our second time at the the same time of year.

It was lovely weather in October before. Malta gets a bad reputation but if you like history and exploring it's fantastic.

I was wondering that as well

Sicily - Fly to Palermo and visit Erice, Trapani and Segusta. We stayed in Alcamo (v.nice Airbnb beach front house with its own heated pool) and the sea was still fairly warm at Scopello & San Vito Lo Capo when we visited many years ago at Oct HT.

Springhassprungxx · 18/05/2025 23:07

I'd go to ltaly - been twice in October, had fabulous westher both times.

RampantIvy · 18/05/2025 23:08

Madeira

Empress13 · 18/05/2025 23:10

Recently went to Barbados for 7 nts with Tui tho it wasn’t in half term. Why are you going then when it’s more expensive without kids?
