For a weekend as we are both frazzled. And probably too frazzled to do airports, travel too far. If anyone knows any lovely small relaxing hotels, please let me know!
we dont mind paying a bit more if it’s relaxing, but don’t want to feel ripped off or be in some massive wedding venue place, as we don’t have that much to splash around - but know these things aren’t cheap. Or maybe they can be?

Best Western Hotel Journel Antibes-Juan-les-Pins in Antibes is lovely, you fly to Nice and then it's 20 mins drive from there. It's walking distance to a nice beach and also the centre of Antibes, but it is quiet and has a nice rooftop bar. Antibes itself is also lovely. Or if you want something more boutiquey, Hotel Villa Edera e La Torretta is gorgeous, really private and relaxing, but more expensive and the Antibes option. You'd fly to Genoa and then it's an hours drive from the airport, by a gorgeous beach.

Look at south West Scotland. The Scottish riviera . Portpatrick sandhead. Gorgeous Beaches. Walks castles gardens.

Scottishskifun · 04/05/2025 22:23

Second Dunkeld house hotel you can easily walk along the river, it has a pool and it never feels too massive.
Dunkeld itself is pretty and great walks nearby or sit in the beer garden by the river and watch the world go by

The other place which springs to mind when you say small relaxing hotel is the Ardeonaig Hotel on Loch Tay. It's very peaceful and amazing food!

Ooh thank you everyone.
nice looks super but I’m not sure we can get there in the time, given that DH finds flying incredibly stressful. I’ll have to organize a girls weekend, it looks amazing. Thank you.
im mooching around the internet tonight, I know DH will probably want to stay at home and spend the money on the house, but gosh! We need a break 🙂

Arran, we absolutely love visiting.

Morph22010 · 08/05/2025 07:33

We visited fort Augustus once and it was lovely although granted it was a nice sunny day, it was lovely to just sit by a Caledonian canal having a drink

Seymourscat · 08/05/2025 07:35

What is your budget?

some gorgeous places in Northumberland so not far from Edinburgh.

Forgottenmyphone · 08/05/2025 07:41

The Lodge on Loch Lomond is lovely and within 2 hours.

declutteringmymind · 08/05/2025 07:42

The lake district?

StanfreyPock · 08/05/2025 08:21

Bridge of Orchy Hotel, Glen Orchy, stunning scenery and cosy lounge with fire if weather's bad. Between Tyndrum and Glencoe, you can even get a bus to the door from Edinburgh if you can't be bothered driving.

I've used this company a few times op. They have different places in Perthshire and the Highlands. Me and dh were looking for a two night stay one weekend and they accommodated our request (some months are min 3 night stay)

@Landofthefair have you been to Stobo?

Timeandtune · 08/05/2025 09:21

How about Morton of Pitmilly near St Andrews ?They sometimes have last minute availability.
Very nice and relaxing.

andtheworldrollson · 08/05/2025 09:28

somewhere down the east coast and just sit on one of the glorious beaches- say bamburgh? You might pick up a room in the castle to stay but it might be late notice

Belindabelle · 08/05/2025 13:37

Monachyle Mhor near Balquidder
Meikleour Arms

No actual recommendations but up by Ballater or down near Melrose are nice relaxing areas. East Neuk, maybe Elie or Crail. Weather looks amazing this weekend.

Thecatsatonthemats · 08/05/2025 16:50

I would second the Monachyle Mhor

MiddleAgedDread · 08/05/2025 17:03

Do some of you drive a tardis to get from Edinburgh in 2 hours?!? We tend to do places that do good food with rooms:
Killin Hotel or the Falls of Dochart Hotel
Avoid Aberfeldy / Dunkeld area if it's for this weekend as there's a big cycle race on.
The Ship Inn at Elie
The Pheasant Inn at Kielder is probably just within 2 hours.
St Valery in Alnmouth (pricey though)
The Bonnie Badger at Gullane
Atholl Palace hotel in Pitlochry looks nice
Is Peebles Hydro bigger than you wanted?

Landofthefair · 08/05/2025 19:14

Goodness me you wonderful people! I’m actually, for once, thinking sort of ahaead - so weekend of 23rd. I’m pretty daunted by planning anything - I just never know where to even begin, but these are lovely ideas, thank you!

PairOfKittens · 08/05/2025 20:29

I also thought Monachle Mhor

And possibly not quite what you’re after since it’s a B&B rather than hotel so you’d have to make restaurant reservations separately but we absolutely love the Merlindale in Crieff

Ladyymuck · 09/05/2025 06:56

St Andrews, Old Course Hotel, so relaxing up in the bar overlooking the course with a drink, just lovely. Walks along the beach, up the town, lovely pool and spa in the hotel, so lovely and relaxing. Gleneagles, again everything in one place, lovely walks, golf, tennis, lawn games, pool and spa, walk into Auchterarder, drinks on the lawn.

squarepegroudhole · 10/05/2025 17:25

Rufflets hotel , St Andrews is lovely.
