Baydreamer · 21/01/2025 13:59

Hi. The two of us are looking for a beach holiday abroad (somewhere warm), Sept/Oct, to celebrate a 'young at heart 50th'.
Any suggestions & advice would be great please, as we have never even been abroad from the UK.
Clear sea & clean sand a preference.
Destination,Booking company,Airline, ...tips and hints please..?
TIA

Budget?

QuimCarrey · 21/01/2025 14:36

If you just want those things as conveniently as possible, much of the southern European coast is still pretty warm in September. Rain more of a risk in the west as you get closer to the October half term. So you're probably better going earlier.

Spain tends to have something for all price points, especially the Balearics. Might be best to choose somewhere close for your first trip.

Do you have more ideas about what you want? If you're inexperienced travellers, a package holiday company might make you feel more secure. The big ones are Jet2, Tui and Easyjet, with the latter having skimpier customer service usually.

Southern Spain , canaries Malta

Bjorkdidit · 21/01/2025 16:00

What do you mean by 'young at heart 50th'.

Are you wanting to go to a 'clubbing' destination like Magaluf, Ibiza or Ayia Napa or would that be your worst nightmare?

TheLastLady · 21/01/2025 16:01

Protaras Cyprus, Sunrise Beach Tui

Bjorkdidit · 21/01/2025 16:02

But yes, if you want easy, you could look at the packages from somewhere like jet2, Tui or Easyjet and tweak the options according to budget and preferences.

Then you'll know that your flight, transfer and accommodation is sorted and if you're unsure about anything, you'll have a rep you can phone for advice.

Rhodes is absolutely beautiful with very clear sea

This.

not sure whether you mean 50 is old and doddery but you don’t want to do saga holidays,

or you’re a 50 year old who think they can party with the 19 year olds 😂

mitogoshigg · 21/01/2025 16:05

Ai or b&b? Plenty of options, we are definitely young at heart and no issues with clubbing etc into 50's in the main resorts

Cynic17 · 21/01/2025 16:11

You need to be much more specific, OP.
But if you live reasonably close to an airport, I'd have a look at the destinations you can reach from there - I think a direct flight would be best for you.

Bjorkdidit · 21/01/2025 16:12

Just checking you have passports?

Cremeeggtime · 21/01/2025 16:18

Jet2 to the Canaries. Bobs your uncle.

Good idea. I wouldn't be faffing with changes when your requirements are so widely available.

Also have a think about what you want to do with food. Self cater, B and B, half board (breakfast and evening meal) or all inclusive?

Boffle · 21/01/2025 16:21

Choose your airport
Decide how long a flight you want
Budget? This will be the key factor. If you've never been abroad before you may be surprised how much it costs.
Do you want a hotel with meals or a place of your own?
Busy resort full of bars and restaurants or quiet peaceful place?
Do you want it all arranged for you or would you rather do it yourself?
Budget - will you be trying to save every penny or happy to splash out?

My first thought for September would be Mallorca. It's a short flight, hot at that time, lots of choices of resorts and hotels. You could have a low budget or 5* holiday.

Have certainly been considering Spain. But a lot of resorts to consider lol.

Jet2 has been mentioned to us often. 👌

That sort of thing is widely available. You might prefer to be based in a town so you have more choice of nightlife. There are some lovely places on the Algarve with a bit of everything.

The budget sounds doable. What do you think you'd like to do about catering? You can have everything from fully self catering to all inclusive.

Live music at night is one of my holiday criteria ( not so young 66 and 75).
Look at Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, Corralejo Fuetaventura. Both have lots of bars with a live band or duo at night.
Nearer to home maybe Palmanova Mallorca.

East Mids about 1hr away. Certainly a direct flight. Thinking about Ai ? Not heavy drinkers though.
Enjoy relaxing & dining out in the day. Love live music & dance at night.
Happy to stay somewhere central to explore a nice sandy beach & clean sea one day, English atmosphere another, and traditional culture cuisine on another.
A seaview would be nice.
Somewhere not 'too dated' as it is o celebrate my Wife's 50th Birthday lol.

I can recommend Jet2 - we've done 3 holidays with them. Majorca, Menorca and Turkey.

I love Turkey so much we've been 6 times over the years 😀
