Happymchappyface · 29/12/2024 19:44

I’ve asked for a Mumcation for my birthday in March. I’m now looking for a place to go. Any suggestions welcome including hotel recs.

Requirements

City easy accessible by train from London
cathedral city so I can go to Sunday service on my birthday
lots to see and do / places to walk
ideally a pool or gym in the hotel.
UK only.

Thank you

Maybe Canterbury or York? I've not been to Canterbury personally but always thought it looks nice. York is lovely and plenty to keep you busy

MinnieMountain · 29/12/2024 19:46

What the heck is a Mumcation?

rubyslippers · 29/12/2024 19:46

Bath

Budget? The Gainsborough in Bath would be my first pick for this (the only hotel in Bath that has access to its own supply of the hot spring, plus it's right next to the Thermae Spa) but it is NOT cheap.

"Mumcation" 😃Is this a new thing?

What the heck is a Mumcation?

I'm sure you can figure it out

InkHeart2024 · 29/12/2024 19:49

What is a mumcation? A holiday by yourself? A holiday from being a mum? A holiday with your kids? Why not just call it a holiday or a trip?

InkHeart2024 · 29/12/2024 19:50

HorrorFan81 · 29/12/2024 19:49

Seriously no I can't! What does it mean?

LittleRedRidingHoody · 29/12/2024 19:50

Winchester?

Snorlaxo · 29/12/2024 19:50

I assume that mumcation = child free vacation ?

Well I've never heard it before but I'm assuming she's a mum, who wants to go away on her own for her birthday

Blackcountryexile · 29/12/2024 19:54

Liverpool. Sheffield

OddBoots · 29/12/2024 19:55

Is this a solo trip or with Mum friends? Or taking your mum away?

BadgerFace · 29/12/2024 19:57

Winchester and Tunbridge Wells are both lovely towns with spa hotels and nice shops to mooch around. Easily accessible from London if you do t want to go too far.

If you don’t mind more if a journey then Bath and Stratford-Upon-Avon are also very nice.

Eaglemom · 29/12/2024 19:57

I have never heard this term either but I am 4 brandy's in and it's perfectly crystal clear to me. Maybe because it's something i have dreamt of for the last decade finally has a name lol

Happymchappyface · 29/12/2024 20:00

I knew once I used the word mumcation I’d get sarcastic responses.

It’s a lighthearted term to mean a night or two away without DH or kids. A holiday from being a mum.

Bath and York are out really as I have family in both and will be obliged to see people lol.

Wincester could be good. Never need there.

Lincoln was an unexpected little gem for me.

InkHeart2024 · 29/12/2024 20:02

So you'd be going away totally alone? Or with friends? I'm sorry it's not sarcasm I genuinely don't get what the concept means. I also think it's a silly name but that's a secondary issue.

Happymchappyface · 29/12/2024 20:03

Totally alone. A chance to recharge the batteries.

lighthearted terms should be silly.

museumum · 29/12/2024 20:04

Salisbury? Or Lincoln is quite nice if you stay up the hill.

MaxMaxy · 29/12/2024 20:05

Oxford

Eaglemom · 29/12/2024 20:06

Ignore the feigned holier than tho ignorance OP. Wherever you end up, have the best time. I am.not sure if this fits the bill but Edinburgh would be lovely on your own. Other than that I would fancy Liverpool as I've never explored there.

It's not that a complex concept that requires multiple comments asking the same thing! Got it straight away, and OP it sounds like a great idea.

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2024 20:09

I actually didn't get what you meant but I see its a solo trip.
Do you want a city break? Spa? Country hotel?
Whats the budget?

ExpensiveDecoration · 29/12/2024 20:10

I wasn't sure what you meant either but Lincoln and Winchester are good calls. I'd personally choose Winchester out of those two. I like how easy it is to walk out to gorgeous countryside from the city centre.
