The Times BOGOF makes the cost only a teenie bit more than economy flights with BA or Virgin so we are tempted!

Any feedback would be good as I need to be convinced that schlepping up to Luton will be worth it

soapbox · 25/02/2008 20:09

orangina · 25/02/2008 20:15

If you read the comments at the bottom of this article, you'll see they are pretty positive about the whole silverjet experience...
(btw has the BOGOF TImes offer finished yet?)

DualCycloneCod · 25/02/2008 20:15

yes bil is pilot

soapbox · 25/02/2008 20:16

DualCycloneCod · 25/02/2008 20:17

no not wiht them sorry.

soapbox · 25/02/2008 20:18

Times offer only covers July and August, but you can still book for then.

It won't be the end of the world if they go belly up- we'll get the money back on the credit card and just book with BA or Virgin!

OP posts:
orangina · 25/02/2008 20:19

all the articles say they hope to break even by next month, which doesn't really mean much I guess....
ugh, what to do now? (haven't booked it yet...)

dh has used them several times to go to NY with work. It's apparently not as luxurious as business class on other airlines and beds are not fully flat, but for the price it's great. Silverjet have their own checkin at Luton, so really quick to go through security etc and they seem to give you the option of a limo service. dh likes it especially because it's near home and far better than the hike to Heathrom, also cost saving. Unfortunately it's not an option for me when I choose to trvel out there with both kids!

orangina · 25/02/2008 20:34

Thanks Soapbox, it does look good doesn't it (and I never knew that about the loos...!)

soapbox · 25/02/2008 20:34

Thanks T&G for that feedback.

It's booked now - so we'll just have to wait and see whether I actually make it onto the plane or not

OP posts:
soapbox · 25/02/2008 20:35

Me neither - a very funny ad I thought

Oh it looks NICE Soapbox, do let me know if you try it!

Winetimeisfinetime · 25/02/2008 21:05

What a coincidence - I was just about to start the same thread about Silverjet. I didn't know about the Times bogof offer but it won't help us we were hoping to go to NY with them next year - well if they are still operating that is. Does anyone know what planes they use ?

mandymac · 25/02/2008 21:15

Yes I flew Silverjet to New York just over 2 weeks ago - it was fab!
Check in at Luton was sooo relaxing. They just take your checking luggage off you at the door and direct you to to sit in the lounge (where there are free magazines, nice fruit, sarnies, salad, free wine, champers, beer, spirits, teas, coffee - you just help yourself). They someone comes and takes your passport etc away, checks you in and comes back with your boarding card. All pretty much as described on their website. They have their own security too, so hardly any time spent queing.
Flight was also very relaxing - almost flat bed/seats, nice food.
Return from Newark isn't so good as security line is longer and the lounge isn't so spacious, but despite a turbulent flight, the beds were comfy enough that I slept about 4 hours and only woke up as we were landing. They also have lights down and no announcements on the night flights to help aid sleep.
Entertainment selection was a bit limited compared to Virgin, but then again how many films do you want to watch in 7 hours?

So yes a resounding thumbs up from me.

soapbox · 25/02/2008 22:04

Oh that sounds great!

Fingers crossed that they ride out the next few months then
