October sun - heated pool a must !

Hi
I'm hoping for some recommendations with our really specific requirements. Last year we went to Seaside Los Jameos in Lanzarote with teen DS and his friend and I suspect we may end up going back there as I'm really struggling to find anywhere that ticks all the boxes, so any suggestions gratefully received.

On the list is:

  • Outdoor pool that is heated mid - end Oct when we are going
  • Excellent food - we are probably going to go AI as DS and his pal loved it
  • Gym with decent weight selection- this is not for me you understand- or a local gym that could be joined for a week
  • Spa area where people are not naked - I thought I'd found a perfect place in Gran Canaria which is owned by the same people as Seaside Los Jameos, but apparently sauna visits are in the buff which puts me right off, never mind some teenage boys
  • Freshly made cocktails would be good, as would some decent evening entertainment, but I'm aware the list is getting long Grin

We may end up going back to the same place, but it would be good to go to a different country either Cyprus or Turkey or maybe a different part of the Canaries - not been to Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura as a family before.

Go on Sunshine holidays and you can filter your requirements

Plankingplanks · 27/05/2023 17:09

Allegra agadir in Morocco sounds like it might fit the bill. I love it there

Polis · 27/05/2023 17:12

The outdoor pools in Cyprus don’t tend to be heated. Maybe ask on Tripadvisor before booking.

Unfortunately you can't filter on heated pool, it's a bit unfortunate as it's one of our key requirements as I won't use the pool otherwise at that time of year.
Thank you though.

we stayed here and it seems to tick most boxes. Can’t say about the spa as I don’t use it but definitely good cocktails.

Ooh that does look like a good cocktail @Danniotley
@Plankingplanks should have said we want to fly from Edinburgh so not sure if we can go to Morocco but I can check.

Have a look at liberty Fabay in Fethiye.

We went October half term last year, the weather was perfect, really warm during the day and slightly cooler in the evening. The main pool is heated.

They have a gym, spa and lovely cocktails.

Lovely small town a short taxi ride away with some nice restaurants.

We don't usually return to the same hotels but we will definitely go back here.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/05/2023 17:49

Look at Iberostar La palmerie, Marrakesh. At least one pool definitely heated, cocktails always freshly made, spa is a traditional hamman style (extra cost, very effective, no naked bods). Food pretty good, lots of choice. There’s a decent sized gym, but couldn’t tell you about the weight section.

Would you consider doing an indirect flight somewhere if the transfer time was short? That may open up your options further.

Hotel Botanico in Tenerife. Not cheap but the spa and breakfast are lovely.

I've been in that heated pool as we visited friends staying there - it's absolutely lush ! If it was just DH and I that would absolutely be my first choice and also we could go outside school holidays to make it more affordable, sadly for the teens it might just be a bit too quiet ( and out of our price bracket for 4 people and school holidays sadly).

@Qilin we would definitely consider a flight with connections for the right location.
@QueenofLouisiana hadn't considered Marrakesh so I will have a look at that.

@dontknowwasmadetoknow will look at Liberty - wasn't sure if pool would be heated or not so that's good to know

I am also looking for this too! But with tweens instead so don’t need the gym. Agree pinning down heated pools is surprisingly difficult. But thank you OP as I will take a look at where you stated if you recommend it

NewDogOwner · 27/05/2023 20:11

Read the reviews. I've read lots there pools are advertised as heated but were not so were unusable and people's holidays were ruined.

rookiemere · 27/05/2023 20:20

@Discoverysnakes now that I'm trying to find similar, I'm realising how lucky we were at Hotel Los Jameos. Food was excellent, pool was heated ( to be fair only really got warm in the afternoon) and food was top notch and I'm quite fussy.

I've found a few more possibles - Vogue hotel supreme and Ali Bey, both in Turkey but slightly worried that entertainment would be winding down towards end of October, also GF Gran Tenerife has a year round heated pool apparently and is coming just within budget so that might work.

Taking a look at the los jameos it does look almost perfect for what I want ( I’m a single parent so also like that the reviews all seem to note how friendly staff are. Plus close the airport is a bonus).

Hope you find somewhere equally good!

rookiemere · 27/05/2023 20:54

@Discoverysnakes the more I look, the more I'm convinced we will end up back there. It just ticks a lot of boxes and whilst not cheap, I felt it offered good value for money.

Marina suites in Gran Canaria is lovely they do b&b but breakfast was amazing and the pool bar did really good lunches which were reasonable.

On sit restaurant is lovely and we went out for evening meals

Pretty sure there was a gym and spa on site but with 2DC they weren't on my radar

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 28/05/2023 00:10

Try GF Victoria.
Definitely two heated pools, one for kids and one for adults but older kids tolerated if not doing ball games etc
Small gym but only ever saw 1 or 2 people in there so not a problem. Free weights and, I think, there was a shaded area outside where you could do weights instead of in the gym
Fenced football pitch which my DC usually had to themselves in the evening
Padel tennis which was fun
We did half board but AI was available. Only one restaurant. Several different bars, including an 18+ one which definitely did handmade cocktails
Plenty of bars & restaurants within minutes and about 10 mins to the beach.

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 28/05/2023 00:12

I meant to say that we'd been to Seaside Los Jameos the year before and the pools and facilities at GF Victoria are definitely superior. I don't think the food is necessarily better but the restaurant is much bigger and we never had to queue for a table unlike at Los Jameos

Lykia · 28/05/2023 06:26

Sorry can't think of anything that ticks all your boxes.

However, one thing I always do is to look at the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor and put heated pool in the filters and then choose October for the month. This way you can see how warm the pool is in October.

Then do the same with cocktails, food and entertainment to see whether a hotel ticks all your boxes.

rookiemere · 28/05/2023 06:51

@nobodygoesdowninthejungle thank you - very helpful that you have been to both hotels.
@Lykia that's a good tip for trip advisor thanks. If only the holiday companies had a search on heated pool - it's a real must for me.

@rookiemere agreed! Liberty Fabay is on
my list but I’m scouring trip advisor reviews for pool temperatures. Decent gym is important for me too.

hilbil21 · 28/05/2023 07:15

Delphin Be Grand in Turkey I think fits all your requirements.
