Titanic Belfast- has anyone been?

Ilovecleaning · 07/04/2023 15:28

DH and I would like a 4 day holiday in Belfast next year to do the Titanic Experience, stay at the Titanic Hotel and have a trip to the Giant’s Causeway.
Have you been? Would you recommend? Did you enjoy it.
I am asking because DH and I have had some bad luck financially in the last couple of years and we have to make careful plans. We can’t afford to just give it a go like we used to. It will cost about £1250 not including dinners and spends which I know is not a lot of money but it is to us.
I’d like opinions from ‘real’ people who have been!
By the way I know we could stay in a cheaper hotel but we really want a treat. DH is 75+ and needs some comfort these days 😊

Oh yes. I went in 2021 and really enjoyed the Titanic experience. I recommend it, and Belfast, to friends.

JuneOsborne · 07/04/2023 16:29

Yep, it was great. And the giants causeway. In fact, it's remembered here as one of our best breaks away! Have a wonderful time.

Do it! Absolutely love Belfast. Such a great place to visit. Giant’s Causeway is amazing. My biggest memory is just how friendly everyone was too

17to35 · 07/04/2023 16:48

Family in Belfast and I don't know anyone who hasn't got something out of the Titanic experience.

Derrymum123 · 07/04/2023 16:55

Great place to visit. You won't regret it.

Ilovecleaning · 07/04/2023 16:58

Thank you so much, everyone. Very much appreciated. We shall definitely go. X

It's great and so is Giant's Causeway. I'd love to go back.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/04/2023 16:59

Where are you planning on staying?

TheSnailAndTheWaaaail · 07/04/2023 17:00

You'll have a great time! Im local. The Titanic experience is brilliant! FYI you don't need to pay entry to the Giants Causeway although it's set up to make it look like you do. Avoid the visitors centre and just walk through the tunnel in the carpark and you can enjoy the walk for free 😊

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 07/04/2023 17:04

We went a few years ago but didn’t stay in the Titanic, loved the Titanic experience though. I was a bit underwhelmed by the Giant’s Causeway, probably because it was just so busy even though we went at a quiet time in the rain!

We also loved The Gobbins and Portrush, we definitely plan to go back one day.

Do you need a car to reach giants causeway from Belfast or is it easily accessible by public transport?

hopeishere · 07/04/2023 17:10

Titanic Hotel is lovely but a teeny bit out of the way. Check out Ten Square, Fitzwilliam and Grand Central for ones more in the City Centre.

AuntieMarys · 07/04/2023 17:12

It's wonderful. Going again this month

I'm sure there's a bus that goes up that way from Belfast. Otherwise you need a car. Public transport in NI is severely lacking!

Firsttimecaller · 07/04/2023 17:26

I used to work in culture industry management and love museums and history. From a professional and punter's POV The Titantic experience was really good. We also did Giant's Causeway on the same weekend. The drive there is a bit dull and I had to use the accessible bus to get near it (didn't climb on the actual causeway DH & DD went off without me) and their interpretive centre was also very good. I hope you enjoy it!

Greenstar9 · 07/04/2023 17:28

Just got back op, went for 3 nights and loved it. We stayed in the Hilton which was 15 mins walk for l titanic and only 10 minutes in the other direction to city hall. Wasn't too expensive, I booked in advance. £125 per night with breakfast. It's a great compact city, wanted to go to the Ulster Museum but ran out of time, will definitely be back.

TrianglePlayer · 07/04/2023 17:32

We went to Belfast a few years ago. Stayed at Jury’s Inn and walked into town for shops etc but got a bus to the Titanic Experience. We really loved it. So worth going to. We enjoyed all of it.

Doh. Missed this in the OP!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/04/2023 17:47

I did it pre covid with my adult ds who was 22. We stayed in Portrush but drove into Belfast for the Titanic Exhibition. DS wanted to see it, I wasn't that bothered but ended up loving it. It was fascinating.

The Giants Causeway is truly spectacular.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/04/2023 17:55

We did 2 days in Belfast (Premier inn) and 2 days on the NI coast (Ballycastle) about 4 years ago. Did the Titanic experience, self guided walking tour of Belfast (I'd get a Black Cab Tour next time), Giant's causeway, Carrick-A-Reed rope bridge, and other places. We got the ferry from Birkenhead. Still one of our favourite holidays. The dc were 7 and 10.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/04/2023 17:57

Your Titanjc Experience ticket will let you into the SS Nomadic moored outside the museum. It's well worth a visit.

UpTheAnte · 07/04/2023 18:06

I haven't been to the Titanic museum but I did go on a coach trip up the coast to the Giant's Causeway - best £35 ever. We had a full day with plenty of stops eg, Carrickfergus Castle, Carnlough Bay, Cushenden Caves, Bushmills Distillery all with brilliant commentary from our driver, then finished up with a guided tour of the causeway.

HiGunny · 07/04/2023 18:09

I was at the Titanic Museum a few weeks ago, it's really good. I have a Titanic obsessed son so we spent hours there! And the SS Nomadic is well worth a visit too.

We are planning a package which includes flights and coach transfers plus a coach trip to Giant Causeway.
