Just curious really, is it a total waste of my time filling in lots of online competitions?! Or are they all scams….. has anyone actually ever won one? having not had a holiday is many years and no prospect of one I wonder whether I should go for it and enter every competition going 😂

I won a holiday to Cyprus from calling into a radio show! It was about 20 years ago though!

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/02/2023 11:53

Yes, twice! Both in Irish radio competitions when I lived in Dublin. One was a week in Tunisia (or Morocco?) and the other was a week in Portugal.

Hi yes I won a 5 star long -haul holiday for two a few years ago. It was an online travel magazine competition.
Definitely worth trying! Took less than 3 minutes to enter.

I’ve won business class flights, had to pay for my own accommodation so not sure that counts in your poll.

whataboutnow · 26/02/2023 12:02

Not sure if it counts as a win but I did get chosen to product test a holiday for Mumsnet. I have no idea how many people enter those . It was in the UK included accommodation and meals so all we had to pay for was the petrol to get there and write a review of course!

openingbat · 26/02/2023 12:03

Friend of mine just won a weekend break but not sure how they entered it.

Justlovemarmite · 26/02/2023 15:33

Oh wow, so they do exist then!! That’s amazing!

I won a ‘glamping’ holiday in the UK on Mumsnet years ago!

Not 2 weeks in Mauritius, granted, but it was fun and appreciated.

FettleOfKish · 26/02/2023 15:36

I've never won one; but I work for a travel company and we have given holiday as prizes (that have been claimed) so someone does!

Radiatorvalves · 26/02/2023 15:37

I won £350 holiday voucher for writing 250 words on where I like to go skiing. Published in a right wing newspaper that I now never read. Article is still there but behind a pay wall. Paid for accommodation in Marrakech a few years ago.

DH won a cruise!

It was an appreciation thing for NHS staff post-Covid and he entered and won.

There was quite a bit of faff involved, and then we were notified to say they'd overbooked (they wanted to reduce numbers on board for social distancing or something) and would we accept an alternative. The alternative was Southampton to Glasgow. We declined.

So we've won a holiday, but not gone on holiday 😆

In the late 80s DM and DSis won a holiday to Greece from Kit Kat.

tinytemper66 · 26/02/2023 16:18

Yes. A free week in a gite. It rained all week- in May! So glad we didn't pay for it!

cptartapp · 26/02/2023 16:18

My friend won a trip to the Maldives.

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 26/02/2023 16:19

Long weekend in NYC - flights and accommodation through a cinema promotion

ItsTrueLou · 26/02/2023 16:20

Me. I won a week in Le Touessrok, Mauritius breakfast and evening meal, flights not included. It was amazing. Just filled in my name and address and posted off the entry

mdh2020 · 26/02/2023 16:22

I’ve won two holidays simply by entering my name and email. I won flights and a week in Israel and I’ve just come back from an Antarctic cruise (flights included). Both were holidays for two.

Justlovemarmite · 26/02/2023 18:30

how inspiring!

My friend won one to New York years ago. Flights, hotel and spending money. Except she dicked them about getting dates extended so she could surprise her partner for a big birthday, eventually booked it, then found out he couldn’t get a visa because he had a previous conviction she didn’t know about. They wouldn’t let her change the dates or names and she wouldn’t go alone so she lost the lot.

BingleBongleBoo · 26/02/2023 18:47

About 30 years ago we won a fly drive to California. Bloody brilliant it was!

Littlepaws18 · 26/02/2023 18:56

Won a holiday to New York off a whiskey bottle I bought for my dad for Christmas and a holiday to Rome in another competition. In laws were retired and frequently entered competitions mainly from what they bought at supermarkets and they won lots of things from season tickets, giant chocolate rabbit, holiday to America and tour of Jack Daniels distillery, £500 to spend in Levi's to name a few. It's worth it on products you buy rather than internet sites.

Roselilly36 · 26/02/2023 19:02

Yes, a fantastic trip to Canada and a U.K. weekend break. I have won quite a few prizes in draws, but never win cash. Worth entering OP.

JamPearl · 26/02/2023 19:05

No but a work colleague won a trip to New York from a magazine competition. Annoyed me at the time as she was very boring and probably didn't make the most of it 😂

Laney79 · 26/02/2023 19:16

I won a trip to the Jack Daniels factory in Tennessee via an email comp, a "high tea tour" of the Darjeeling area of India from filling in a form in the shop whittards, and £3000 to spend on a holiday to Greece with Thomas cook on Twitter. First one was 2007...so that's been over a period of 16 years. I go through periods of entering lots to not really bothering. I did win an overnight stay in a nice hotel in london too-that was for writing a travel tip for a magazine.

My dad won a two night B&b stay on Facebook too x

Mochudubh · 26/02/2023 19:18

I won a 3 night spa break a few years ago from a magazine, can't remember which. I think it was a runner up prize where the first prize was a "proper" holiday.
