Just curious really, is it a total waste of my time filling in lots of online competitions?! Or are they all scams….. has anyone actually ever won one? having not had a holiday is many years and no prospect of one I wonder whether I should go for it and enter every competition going 😂

@Justlovemarmite - Looks like you need to google "radio holiday competitions" 😊

I sort of won a holiday once. A week in a very nice hotel abroad. Had to buy flights though but it was really a gorgeous hotel way out of my price range.

I won a week to the Carribbean a few years ago. All inclusive including flights and transfers. Just took spending money. Nicest holiday I will ever have! Entered a competition while watching a film one afternoon when I was off work sick. So yes it can happen!

I've won several foreign holidays and UK mini-breaks, but that's as a semi-professional "comper", entering 1000s of competitions a month. Then again, a friend of mine won an all-expenses paid holiday to NZ several years ago and they just entered that one competition, so it's all about sheer luck really, but you do, of course, have to be in it to win it! If you have the time and can be bothered, why not?!

I won a £500 travel voucher from a competition in our local newspaper. It was just a draw. I heard that not many people enter these competitions so I entered and won! I could spend it on anything at a particular travel agents in town. We booked a week in a holiday cottage by the sea. Had to top it up by about £200 I think. It was a really sunny week and we had a great time. Love reading these, makes me feel like filling some more in!

I won return flights for two, and four nights accommodation in a major American city. It was unexpected and very nice, we paid for more nights elsewhere to make it more of a holiday as it was a long way for only four nights

When i was younger....I won a weekend for 2 to Paris ( travel , hotel, and a night out with dinner at the moulin rouge)

A long time ago - about 19 years ago. Won flights from Heathrow to anywhere in France with Air France, and a week's car hire. So half a holiday. We booked a gite in the Dordogne and had a fantastic week.

I won a week in Gran Canaria in a nightclub prize draw on my 21st birthday, and my mum won a Mediterranean cruise in a raffle, both numerous decades ago!

I won business class flights to NY once! Thi k its the only time I've ever won anything. Wehad to pay accommodation etc but had a brilliant time.
There was a competition on one Xmas where I filled out a form in a Westfield shopping centre.

During the nineties I spent hours a day entering competitions. I was very successful, clocking up 15 holidays, some weekends, then there was New York, Florida and Barbados. Now I win zilch as on line comping is the luck of the draw, no talent.

FIL recently won a week in a 4* hotel in Malta. He enters A LOT of free competitions though.

ZaZathecat · 04/03/2023 10:16

Yes, twice, but both decades ago when competition usually involved saving a few wrappers from a particular product and completing a slogan. Now it's all just entering a draw I don't bother as the chances are so small.

I won a major newspaper competition once for a weekend in London about 10 years ago. Included a night in a really nice London hotel, fab hotel breakfast included -- and was upgraded to a suite!. Started with a lovely lunch at Somerset House where the jewellery show was being promoted and a lovely prize necklace from the show ... very pretty piece.

Won a uk cruise from Virgin holidays a couple of years ago. It was only a couple of clicks on an app I already had, and everything was included.
It was a ship that was supposed to be cruising the Caribbean but got stuck in the UK for Lockdowns. We didn't meet any other winners on the cruise, but it was a massive and very full ship. We had to show vaccination status and do a LFT before boarding but once on board it was much more "normal" than landside.

Not me personally, but a friend won a honeymoon in a bridal magazine. Her and her dp got married quickly, went on the honeymoon and were separated by their first anniversary.

Whammyyammy · 04/03/2023 17:13

My mum won a holiday years ago, it was a cruise in the med.

Only catch was she had to book her return flights with the travel agent she won with, or couldn't claim it.

And yup, the flights were horrendously expensive, more than the cost of flights and cruise if you booked elsewhere.

emmathedilemma · 04/03/2023 17:57

I won easyJet flights through a Twitter competition

DuvetDownn · 04/03/2023 19:43
