Is anyone going abroad over Christmas?

Just being nosey really! My DD16 and I are going away in 11 days time and can’t wait. We were meant to go away last Christmas but she got covid 4 days before we were due to fly! 😭

I don’t have any family really so prefer to go somewhere hot and get some winter sun!

Nope, but schools break up early this year around here and the week before Christmas is really cheap for holidays.

Itwasntevenblackpudding · 03/12/2022 11:25

I live "abroad" and will be going back to the UK for Christmas to spend it with my children and grand-children. Does that count?

Should have done the same last year but the travel restrictions meant we had to cancel and we all spent Christmas in three different countries.

Can't bloody wait 😀

SnowfallSnowball · 03/12/2022 11:56

Haha yes @Itwasntevenblackpudding probably should have put ‘going away’ but yes it definitely still counts, you must be so excited and your family of course! When did you last get to see them?

@SnowfallSnowball

Last proper time together was in June for a holiday abroad for all of us.

Brief 24 hours with the kids for a funeral in August.

It's been a loooong year!

Can't even think about the darkest days of Covid when we were all stuck in 3 different countries.

Looking forward to a very merry Christmas. Hope you and DD have a fantastic time in the sunshine 😎

Lovetotravel123 · 03/12/2022 12:06

Yes, we try to go abroad for Xmas every other year. Our choice would be every year, but this helps to keep other family members happy.

Usernamen · 03/12/2022 18:03

Yes! Lanzarote for 9 days. Over Xmas but not New Year as like to celebrate that in London.
I’ve been checking the weather obsessively - currently showing as 24-25 degrees 4 days before we get there. Fingers crossed it continues in that vein!

busybeeee222 · 06/12/2022 08:45

It is just me and my dd too and we are going away for Xmas to dominican Republic, where are you off too?

I think it takes the stress away from Xmas :)

user1494050295 · 06/12/2022 08:46

Yep Geneva for a few days before Xmas. Can’t wait

NC30112021 · 06/12/2022 08:53

Yes! Skiing from 24th -31st. Hate all the hassle that goes along with Xmas so escape abroad is appealing.

Wooohoo....my advent calendaris counting down to it.😎

Ivyblu · 06/12/2022 09:09

No,never been away at Christmas time. I do like the heat and choices are limited for weather in December. Tell us where your going OP?

h78 · 06/12/2022 09:27

We are going to Egypt for a week but we don't celebrate Christmas. It's just to get a bit of sun Smile

gianfrancogorgonzola · 06/12/2022 09:32

Yes. Desperate for some sun and time off work.

SnowfallSnowball · 06/12/2022 15:41

Ooh I love the sound of these! @h78 same as you, I don't celebrate either but it's nice to have that time off and get away from the madness. I'm going to Bali for the first time, I have been to SE Asia before but I have been putting off going as it's rainy season there in December but like you @Usernamen pretty much checking the weather all the time! :)

Aww how old is your DD @busybeeee222 , have you been to DR before?

@NC30112021 where are you going skiing? Are there lots of you going?

Thank you @Itwasntevenblackpudding hope you have an amazing time with your family!

@Ivyblu this is true, but it's you don't have to go too far afield, I have had friends that have gone to the Canaries and been really lucky with the weather. I guess it depends what appeals :). I tend to book in January/February time. I don't go away in the summer so save my blow out for the end of the year!

Yes, we're going away over Christmas, visiting family overseas. Bit worried about how my DS (18yo) will cope with the long haul flight as it's his first since he was diagnosed with PoTS. Will be packing snacks and an empty water bottle to fill as though he's a toddler!

Heyahun · 06/12/2022 16:17

Fly to India Xmas morning 👌⛄️

Hobbi · 06/12/2022 16:26

@Itwasntevenblackpudding

Not derailing thread, honest, but is your username a reference to the classic post of a few weeks ago? Is it in Classics yet?

Itwasntevenblackpudding · 06/12/2022 16:50

@Hobbi

Yes it is :-)

That thread was MN at its very finest!

Itwasntevenblackpudding · 06/12/2022 16:51

I meant "yes it is a reference to that thread"

Haven't checked to see if it went into classics - it should though!

Georgyporky · 06/12/2022 17:35

Madeira. Been twice before (not Xmas) & the weather is looking good.
Better than a rather gloomy 2021 in a miserable hotel in Sussex - cheaper as well !

SnowfallSnowball · 07/12/2022 18:25

@Itwasntevenblackpudding I am intrigued to find out what your thread was about now! 😁

@Georgyporky sounds like a no brainer to me!

Yes we are! On the 18th to do the Californian coast. We did Thailand last year (very hard work with all the tests), 2019 was NY/Manhattan and Rome 2018.

I love love love going away for Xmas.

HowVeryBizarre · 08/12/2022 06:43

@SnowfallSnowball We got back from Bali last week, our third trip this year. There is something addictive about the place (although so many people turn up their noses). Rainy season came early this year and there was some rain most days but the only thing it really stopped us doing was sunsets on the beach which we weren’t that fussed about as we were there in August when there was no rain at all. We have also been there in January a number of years with not a drop of rain… Where are you staying? The Christmas decorations were all up when we left.

PayPennies · 08/12/2022 06:46

Yes! India for Christmas to see parents and family after FOUR years. Brand new baby-who-is-now-toddler and toddler-who’s-now-a-proper-child in tow ;)

Christmas in 28 degrees …!

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 08/12/2022 06:49

Yes, we are going to Thailand and Singapore.
